1994 Rover 414SLi - Fin.

If they fit, they'd be so right for you, Angyl.

However, if those are 14's, the PCD just looks too big to be 4x100. I've spent too long gazing at wheels. Soz, but that's what I see.

Anyway, Sat'day at Bratfud, eh?

We're only another 45 mins away here. Do you wanna come for your bonnet and stuff?

Your bonnet, yesterday:

It's still straight and rust free, and ripe for a full reVulgalourisation.

I'm free for most of that afternoon if you'd like to pop across. Kettle's always warm.  :)

Yes, I think that sounds like a plan.  Chompy is unsure of plans so he may or may not come too.  We will have to come to some sort of arrangement re cost because there's lots I'd like off that car and some funds but not a bottomless pit of them.

There is a list of things I'd like to take from the ex-Chompy Rover, these things:

- bonnet (obvs)

- front passenger wing

- rear drivers door (if the same as the saloon, we think they are)

- steering wheel, or just the centre pad as that's tired on mine but the rim is still really good

- at least one front indicator as at least one of mine is cracked

- door handles because lacquer peel

- in fact, all the doors if they're better than mine and fit, might get me some straighter panels that way

- at least one front indicator, one of mine is cracked.

There might be more, would be easier to find out with both cars in the same place.  I need to be in Bratfud before 1pm so I'd be at yours after that at some point.  Probably just be me and Chompy.  I'll bring that home made mincemeat I promised too.

EDIT:  the Carisma (I've been adding an H, there's no H in it) wheels are 15" rather than 14" so I might be good on them.  I've asked, we'll see what they say.

Nice to see.. I was looking at that actual car on gumtree/trovit. Nice to see it's gone to a new owner (instead of scrap yard) and a ton of stuff done on it already. I was looking at it as it has the same interior as my 414SLi. I would most likely of tried driving it back, if I'd gone for it, and from the sound of your drive back I might have completed the journey on a breakdown recovery, if wasn't as eagle eyed.

First, the bad news: those fantastic Carisma alloys are 114.3 according to the seller. Sad times because now I'm back on the hunt for some wheels that look good and that I like, which is much harder a job than it sounds.

Now for the good news. Got the roof flatted back and the second coat on, one of the gutter trims doesn't want to go back on properly so it's off for now until I sort that. Irritatingly, just as I finished putting the last bit of paint on a big spray of water went all over it so I have to flat it back a third time and put a final coat of paint on. I switched to Rustoleum paint because I couldn't get the Wilkinson's tin (half the price) as they were out of stock. I'm glad I did too, the Rustoleum is far easier to work with and gives a much better gloss finish.

Turned my attention to the interior which was mostly pretty clean. Usual toothbrush action needed on the stalks and this time on the A-pillars too so I could get rid of the Sid & Doris easy access grease marks. Not entirely sure how to clean off the stains on the sunroof blind, I'd like to remove the blind to clean it but I suspect that's going to be way more hassle than it's worth.

The rest of the interior came up well really quickly. I've only done the plastics, I'm yet to deep clean the carpets, seats and parcel shelf. I've got to check the front door switches too, they don't always want to operate the interior light unlike the rear doors which do.

Steering wheel was really clean which made me disproportionally happy.

Best of all, the annoying Sony Xplod has been removed and the original radio reinstalled. Not only does this look better, it produces far more volume at a greater quality. It has also highlighted that the rear speakers are just about dead. I have no idea what station it found, your guess is as good as mine for 96.6FM. Great that I have a spot to keep my cassette tapes too, but I would have liked to have been able to see which ones they are, a minor design issue there.

Last of all, I got the badges off the boot to tidy the rear end up. I'm leaving the Vikings where they're fitted and will source one for the bonnet. I think I'm also going to get in touch with DMB Graphics to get a pair of reproduction dealer plates as I quite like the design of the rear one and the front is just a generic replacement, both are pretty tired.

Now that I'm starting to get the car really properly clean its starting to get noticed in a good way. I never thought I'd have another car I was as excited and happy to own as my old Polo and it turns out the Rover is the car I wanted the Polo to be. With this and the Princess I'm as happy as a pig in muck, I feel as though I may have achieved my own personal old car Nirvana.

Top motah that - seems to be a lot of Rover love* on here just now.

I learned to drive in the hatch version of this, same colour as well, (was my mum's and only 4 years old at the time) and it was rather a nice thing to drive. A world away from my instructors Kia Pride (with power nothing).

Italian guy who lived round the corner from us and owned the local chippy used to have a lovely Mk1 216 GSI in 2 tone silver with brown leather. I would love one in that spec now.

R8s seem to have dissipated off the roads very fast (at least around these parts anyway) hardly ever see any.

They (perhaps unfairly) got the flat cap labelled tarred all over them. But at least they're different, most of the north west drive very modern Germanic cars with guzzling 4WD, lots of LED Christmas head lights, hire purchase or new cheap cars made by electric heater/pen makers. Whilst anything vaguely interest went in scrappage. That's what we voted for.

I had the same situation with the number plates on the 220sli- chunky oversized original on the rear and a bland modern font replacement on the front. I e mailed dmb a close up of the rear plate dealer logo, and gave them the measurement of it. They made a replica set with the front also in the chunky size.....

Wasn't the original front one the normal size? I always thought the rear plates on those Rovers were slightly bigger to fill the numberplate recess on the boot.

As an aside, I was wondering who's got the AS bike Rover now. I've lost track of the ex-G.Cox Escort as well.

Not only Bratfud tomorrow for bumper and grille, on my way home it's Krujoe-on-the-hill for more red Rover goodies.  I'm quite excited, even though I know it's going to be a very long day.  It'll be fine, KotH provides excellent cups of tea and company even if you are spending your time on a windswept hill fiddling about with bolts.

This thread is seriously making me yearn for one of these R8's myself. I found myself watching YouTube clips of Russ Swift throwing a 416 saloon round a car maze as part of a challenge on You Bet!

There is a pretty tidy N-plate example for sale near me (it's been mentioned on the rover forum site) which has some comically-sized spot lamps fitted amongst other things.
