davehedgehog31
The gift that keeps giving. How bad is the hole? Are we still talking about the motor? oldcars
Split_Pin
The sills on mine are still solid thankfully although there are a few rust stains around the jacking points. Thankfully there is a big chunky inner brace behind so the sill is not relied upon to support the weight of the car. oldcars

sierraman
Most corrosion like this is failed on the test well before the complete integrity of the car is compromised. Wants plating though before the test. oldcars

This must be why the ramp did'nt go through it the other day.

oldcars
Aye it needs time to fill with salt first Gaffer taped up the hole. Was going to waxoil it but thought better not for when its being welded.
sierraman
For god sake don’t Waxoyl it. Very likely to cause a fire when it’s welded, I’d tape over it. You could always set to work fashioning a plate from Zintec for the welder, then just before it gets welded cut it back to fit. I had a Focus ages ago, the inner rear arches had rotted out, I made up some plates from zintec to fit, ground it back to clean metal and it was ready to weld once it had a quick go over with the flap disc. Saved me on labour. oldcars

oldcars
This is in the bodyshop now getting rear jacking points sorted. It has never had the jacking pads fitted and i have been told that is part of the reason for the rot. Ordered some last week and they have arrived. Finders crossed they fit ok. Split_Pin
I replaced 2 missing ones on mine. My sills have a bit of surface corrosion but the jacking points stil work fine. oldcars
sierraman
There’s only Rover who would have fannyed around with bits of rubber to stick to the jacking points. oldcars

oldcars
Sills all welded up. Still needs painted which will be done this week. They were really bad around the jacking points when the rot was cut out. The patches that have been made were brilliant. He had taken lots of photos for me to see all the work done. One was really bad, the other had only slight bubbling but the inside was . Just shows when the outside is bubbling the inside is well gone. Can't wait to get it back and go all two bucket on it. Its hanging with filler dust from the unit. Shame it's baltic for the next few days. Split_Pin
