CortinaDave
Just thought I'd upload some pics of the shite I have on my computer, taken at various points... I make no excuse for my shameless Cortina bias... First up, one of the guys on the cortina forums uploaded this fine discovery tonight... One of the worst I've seen Was well chuffed to get a pic of this one... the King Of Shite in my book.. an FSO Caro still in daily use on the Island of Arran. Saw a polonez in Inverness in daily use a month or so ago but couldnt get a pic Another pic uploaded onto one of the cortina sites.. a mega rare 2 litre S as well, now sadly dead! nice crusader in edinburgh a few weeks ago... Next up.. a couple of car park finds in Glasgow... Finally, a couple of my shite spots while on holiday on Zante last year.. the Taunus drove past me had to follow it for a while to get a pic.. it had no headlights or grille on the front but still in use Couple of ropey escorts.... I'll post more when i find them.. ShiteRider

Torsten2001
Obviously I love an FSO but the beige Cortina is a beaut, just needs a little TLC

Saw a polonez in Inverness in daily use a month or so ago but couldnt get a picwould you JUST LOOK at the state of that! Willing to bet that's only about an N-reg too are they a bit more relaxed about MOT etc up that way? I know appearance shouldn't count for anything but the neglect apparent in the bodywork surely hints at a complete lack of mechanical or underside maintenance! CortinaDave
Yes the FSO was an N reg... It's got to be my best ever spot so far. Didnt know about this site when i took the pic back in the summer, but was so gobsmacked by it I just had to.I can only guess he gets away with it because its on an island so the plod there wont be so vicious on old cars. The interior was just as top notch.. he had glued cup holders onto the dash top, and the glue had splattered all round when he had done it. It also had wood door cappings that looked very much like they had just been slapped on at some point rather than original fitment. It had awful seat covers as well. It amazes me that someone would run about in it when you can buy something semi respectable for a couple of hundred quid.I remember asking at one point what FSO stood for and was told For Scrap Only

scrappylad
Nice golf mk1, best colour I think. Probably to classic-ish & dear to be considered shite now.A few years ago one on my dads work colleagues had a primer grey coloured (factory finish) Polonez, think it was a G-reg. When he came into money he got a brand new Toyota Previa complete with private plate... but still kept the FSO !!
j-j
Red Golf Mk1, Ive seen that beastie around Glasgow myself but Ive also seen an American school bus in Glasgow too - must get a picture.
CortinaDave
Forgot to add this one.. imagine my surprise when being dragged round Ocean Terminal in edinburgh doing xmas shopping to see this.. You can hire it apparently... wait for it £300 for two days! I'd love a go of this, but dont want it that badly!

CortinaDave
Some more of my shite spots over the last few days..apologies for the pic quality.. most were snapped in a hurry on my phone from the car while on my way somewhere. First up.. this shockingly bad Saab sits on the public road and has done for the last few years, down a side street in a village called Rathillet off the A92 near Dundee Victor FE estate at the bottom of a driveway in Milnathort.. very crusty rear arches on this Tidy vanden plas allegro also in Milnathort Renault sitting in a tiny village in East lothian.. taken on night mode as it was dark, so poor quality pic Trabant in the SECC car park in Glasgow Hand painted capri with mustang style stripes in Edinburgh.. seen this being driven hard a few times by its (female) owner Amazes me to see one of these still surviving.. resale value has been at zero for over ten years now.. chaseracer
The 'random' in the title of this thread reminded me of a south-east France ScallyRally spot from last September - no pic unfortunately as I was driving a GSA up a mountain at the time... Not far from the Italian border near Barcelonnette, among the lower hairpin bends of the D2205 up to the Col de la Bonette, after Jausiers but before you get to Lans, if you look up to your left there's a house with not one but two 'retired' Rover SD1s in the garden
CortinaDave
Fresh Shite update.. been a while since I've posted any so here goes... First up is this particularly grim Capri that lives in Portobello, edinburgh.. its been there for years, and is still on the road and in use.. it actually looks rougher in the metal would you believe Nice mk1 fester XR2 for sale in edinburgh.. bit tatty in places but overall nice.. £1250 a bit steep I think, but TBH im not sure what these are worth No idea what this is... Ultra-rare Wolselely Wedge lying round the back of a garage in Kirkcaldy, again been there for years, Not really autoshite, but rare to see such a new motor in BEIGE?? is this a repaint job or can you still buy a new beige motor? My old mk5 cortina ghia meets it's fate after drastically failing an MoT Humber Sceptre in Kirkcaldy Strange german Shite in Newburgh. a tiny town on the north side of fife, what the hell is this? Newburgh had a surprising amount of shite for such a small town.. Scimitar taking root Never seem to see these anymore, this one was tidy Sorry about the very poor pic here, Celica( i think?) quickly snapped on phone camera on the way out of a car park in kirkcaldy with three people behind me beeping their horn Finally, stuck some new wheels on my 2 litre S... 55bloke
Is the little red mystery motor a Bond of some sort? Your 'Tina looks like a beauty, but, speaking personally, can't say I like the rear screen louvre thing. Each to his own of course, and if you like it, that's all that matters! CortinaDave
Cheers The rear window louvers are a love-or-hate thing, personally i really like them, and searched high and low for the one thats on the car now.. never seen another mk4 one for sale since. they fetch stupid money these days on ebay as and when they do come up. I'm trying to gather as many of the X pack extras as possible for the cortina.. got my hands on the ford headlamp washers after a long search, RS boot spoiler and the autoplas louver.. really want the RS front spoiler but they are beyond impossible to find. One last pic i forgot to post.. Mustang stripes on a C reg micra?? oh dear!!
Guest greenvanman
Is the little red mystery motor a Bond of some sort? It's a Mini MarcosI love that Capri, especially the way they've stuck the rear wheelarch repair sections on over the rust!

Ignoring all the extra black bits, that colour looks somewhat non-standard? The mk1 XR2 (assuming not rotten) is probably reasonable at £1250 seeing as prices have gone through the roof for any Ford with XR or RS badges lately (quick Ebay search will confirm!) CortinaDave
I think it is Highland Green... was a standard colour but very rare now. Having said that it's in such a state its hard to tell! I might try taking my actual camera along rather than my phone to capture it in it's full glory. The S does have its original trim, but it's the later Chevron seats rather than the deckchair "cadiz" ones. They changed the style in '78. Still stripy though! The car's only done 43k.... I bought it with 38k last year, always wanted one that spec and colour, never thought id find it. MrRegieRitmo
This is fantastic!! I knew I wasn't imagining that cars used to have those window slats! They used to be everywhere now they're nowhere! Where did they all go, were they outlawed or something? Does anywhere still sell them? Could you get them for any car? Can you actually see out of it? CortinaDave
They were cool in the 80's, and you could get them for most 70s- mid 80's Tat.. they were made by autoplas... its called a window louver Took me ages to get one for my mk4, they come up on ebay occasionally, depending on what motor you want them for they're either a couple of quid or for some (like mk3 cortina ones) up to £150!! I think they are great though, I have a mk5 cortina one in my shed that i snapped up on the off chance i may have a mk5 at some point:)You can see out, but not that well, but then who cares
Spottedlaurel
When my dad got a 2000E MkIII at a year or so old we thought it was the coolest thing ever. Apart from being yellow and having such luxuries as non-vinyl seats and bits of 'wood' (not what we were used to with previous XL etc), it came with a rear window louvre Good for keeping snow off the back window as I recall (ah, snow, I remember that). MrRegieRitmo
All it needs now are a couple of those strips of plastic that hang from the back of the car down to the ground like long thin mud flaps....think they were something to do with aiding travel sickness someone told me. Can't work out how but never mind! Plus a couple of those fake plastic human hands that clip onto the lip of the boot or doors. Used to see both things everywhere! Perhaps it frightened old ladies who thought somebody had been trapped in the boot!
Mat.T
Anti static strips! my dads mk3 'scrote had one of these and the plastic hands on the boot, very classy http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Anti-Static-Strip ... 0116831681

mk2_craig
Cortinadave, how does the "mk4" rear window differ from the mk5? I've never been able to tell the difference between these Cortina variants save for the rear lamps :lol:Just had a thought about the colour of the Crapri on page 1, is it the same shade as the Ghia that Del Boy off Only Fools And Horses had for a while? Seem to remember that one had a decent selection of fake limbs dangling from the tailgate
CortinaDave
Tut tut! Actually thats the reason I bought the louver, as I was told it would fit a mk4 or 5, but actually the back window of the mk5 is wider. Apart from the back lights, other external mods on a mk5 are different grille(aerofoil slatted type) wraparound front indicators, larger plastic door mirrors rather than the metal/chrome ones, glass area increased - you can see the rear pillar on a mk5 is much thinner than a mk4's. Different bumpers - mk5s have long plastic end caps whereas mk4's wrap round Interior was redesigned, seats are much higher in a mk5, under dash centre console added on all but the basic model, there were changes to the suspension too. I've always preferred the Mk4 though, its a cleaner design I think, and the mk5 i find just a bit too modern.
55bloke
Totally agree with you, the Mk 4 is just a cleaner design somehow- differences are subtle, but change the proportions in a not very good way! I prefer the Mk 3 myself, lovely curvacious design. Mk 1 still my fave though, especially the airflow 2 door.
