Went on a road trip last weekend to the Cortina Day show at Symonds Yat.. 1200 miles in one weekend in my mk4 'tina, and she performed faultlessly. Didnt see nearly as much shite as I was hoping... In Taunton, ASDA car park... Scabby posh - spec metro in same car park... Lovely condition travelling queer LXi.. these are pretty much extinct in Scotland now, but there seemed to still be a fair few around the Bristol/Somerset area.. I spotted no less than four in one day Old boy driving this special edition Cavalier Commander towards Bristol... Took pictures of lots of cars at the COrtina Day show, but this was the Shiteiest.. needless to say I loved it. Back in Scotland... Barried-up Capri in Dundee... Polish Saab in Perth... This little Anglia lives in a village called Scotlandwell in Fife.. It looks unused, but had a current tax disc Just as I turned round having taken the Anglia pic.. this beauty rolled by... Shite condition mk2 escort in Glenrothes... another mk2 Cavalier.. bonus points for the white wheeltrims Apologies for the poor quality of this pic.. it was taken on my phone camera at maximum zoom... these two have been perched up atop MacDonald Metals in Glenrothes for a good few years now.. there used to be a black moggy as well that I remember my primary five teacher driving when i was at school.. but it must have disintegrated. Finally, this is a bit of a shite goldmine.. a garage that the owners closed down ten or so years ago which has a minefield of rotting shite around the back.. sadly these were the only pics I got as the landowner came out and chased me!There are a couple of moggy travellers, and HB viva, a hillman hunter and a mk1 transit also taking root there Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I'd have loved to have gone to the Cortina day, if I'd been aware such an event even existed!! Some nice looking other Fords in the background too, looks like a nice Consul Classic amongst them. I know they aren't in any way shite, but I for one would be interested in the rest of your pics, particularly if there's any particularly nice Mk 1s. This is for sale for 2 grand.. worth every penny, the thing is beyond mint. This one's done only 6k miles from new apparently... Sorry for the mk 3,4,5 bias! I had an Autumn Gold 2000E Mk 3 estate for a couple of years, which I absolutely loved, but it was killed off by terminal inner-sill rot, and holes around the chassis mountings for the rear suspension trailing arms. All repairable, but cost several times what the car was worth at the time. Shame. Repalced it with an Oyster Gold Mk 4 2000E saloon, which somehow didn't have quite the same charisma. That was replaced by my 1st R 25, and never looked back since!! Scrolling down through those pics, I almost had a little accident when the Consul Capri appeared. What stunning cars they are!! Had a friend in the mid seventies who got as far as cutting the roof off one, but never got any further. They were pretty special as they were one of only two 3-cylinder cars available to us (Daihatsu Charade being the first). Almost always in bright orange, they smoked around for a few years until they all fell apart. Or is it more likely cos they would have rolled off the line at Luton? I'm 24 and I've seen my fair share of GM 1970s bread & butter cars! I don't recall seeing Cavs etc having the number plate raised....however I can recall seeing the odd one with the numberplate still underneath the bumper but shufted to the side a lá Alfa 156/147 but obviously at the rear! I can picture Avenger's with the number plate placed higher.....err what else?......I suppose anything where the numberplate usually sat beneath the bumper was susceptible! So you'll get one of these Scottish or Welsh plates wherever you live between Lands End and John O'Groats.....**And talking of John O'Groats, 3 or 4 years ago my parents went on a driving holiday right round the coast of Scotland - East to West. They stopped at Dunnet Head which unlike John O'Groats is the most Northern Mainland point. All that is there is a Lighthouse and a public car park. It was about 9AM and the only other car in the car park apart from my Dad's Saab was an abandoned Volvo PV544. It was a left hooker and rotten as a pear, full of holes and stuffed full of junk. My Dad took a piccie of it for me (which I will try and find) as he knew it would interest me They came back about an hour later, after going for a walk, and my Dad's Saab was the only car there The Volvo had gone ** Ooops.
