King of the Rank! Skoda Octavia- Fresh from its victory at Crail!

I always try and hypermile my ZX to see what the MPG could be like, but then I'll have occasion to floor it for fun/overtake/annoy some dick behind, and the experiment is ruined.

480 miles is my best, the unreliable needle that positions itself depending on which corner I;ve gone round doesnt help this, plus it's only a 45 (i think) litre tank so quite small.

Good going though, 400 miles to half a tank.

400 to half a tank is bloody good going, are you hypermiling or driving normally?

I'm using Dfco (deceleration fuel cut off)-I.e. using the gears to slow the car where possible-aapproaching junctions/lights

/decending steep hills. other than that, shifting at 2k, instant mpg display on the dash and aim for the high numbers.

its no 335, so hoo age is limited. most days I do 4 miles in 2 trips to station(both from cold). usually see trip meter 1 showing 50ish on way out and 56 on way back.

rest of driving is generally 30%town/a road and 70% dual/motorway at 65mph.

I do occasionally hoof it in mine, but usually get around 300 miles to half a tank (75 miles per 1/8th) and have the display showing 62-64mpg. When calculated properly this comes out to around 58mpg. I reckon the display on mine (with the correct sized tyres) over-estimates mpg by 10%, if yours is the same, that makes it around 65mpg, which after 100+ tanks I have never achieved.

yeah on a 55L tank I'm bang on for 65mpg, but tbh iirc from my brothers one the "top half" is larger.. if I see 750miles I'll be happy.

also mind you are on the veg, so slightly less mpg.

Yes I know I am sad, but I spend a lot of time behind the wheel of this thing, and playing with numbers keeps my mind active.

yup-pretty much logged my common trips now- both with hot and cold engine so know me ballparks

If I take my average MPG from over the last 16 months and divide it by my fuel tank size I find that my car would conk out at 300 miles. Jealous of you I am.

If you think that's sad you should see my MPG tracking spreadsheet...

it'd likely run futher once warm in a steady cruise..

I have an app on me phone;)

not always- general concensus is that short sharp bursts of accel are better than feathering it up to speed, its how well you can keep the balance between 'just enough to maintain speed' and "wasting fuel with too much pedal"

I reckon an xud should see 55mpg+ easy enough

Yea, but it's cleland style sometimes, more so since shitefest and going out in your car and the 205!

I imagine it's doing it some good though so meh, it's still better than the XM was. Like you, I need to get my sticky rear calipers sorted, the bushes done and get matching tyres all round before I start to worry about fuel consumption!

hearin ye re hoonery:) also agree re the condition of the car-have a load of bits for servicing due for the weekend. once that is done, and if it behaves itself it may be time to sort out the suspension etc and make it a keeper

I'm sure it would but I've no reason to go journeys like that and even if I could the seats would hurt my back before getting anywhere meaningful!

So finally made it to fuel light on in this for the first time..

672.1 miles, on 45.66L of fuel!that is 66.9MPG (imperial) or 55.7MPG US

1081.6km travelled before refuelling- nice to get a kilo tank on the first run.

I refilled it with 15L of WVO (at 50p/Litre) and 30.66L of Derv (at 116.7p/L) Total refuel cost was £43.28, giving a cost per mile of 6.4p

Total Runtime to use the tank up

That's damn impressive.  I'd be very happy with that and I'll admit now, I don't get that in a Pug 106 1.5d..

 .... shifting at 2k

erm, with a blacksmoke remap and light flywheel the boring pulls well all the way to 4.5k, which is usually where I shift.

I was seeing 48mpg round town in the Polo (1.9D with no turbo)

and 53mpg on a run.

By adding a turbo (for £30 more than the £170 paid for the polo!) I've seen a 13mpg bump

You'll no be shifting at that for a bit whilst the new turbo beds in;)

I've been doing my share of full throttle to 4k blasts on local back roads- but the current wobbly suspension makes it not too much fun

Really enjoyed this so far, good luck with the excitement. I enjoy a bit of a hypermile but starting with a 2 litre petrol isn't as good an idea as a Skoda diesel.

cheers:)

I used to always get 450+miles out of my Dad's 2.0 mk1 Avensis auto-which was 40+mpg

my scaab 2.0 lpt used to do 45mpg, and the old 320i 6pot does 35mpg on a run at 80mph- so a 2.0 pezzer is no a bad start tbh;)

if you got a clio 172 you get 2.0 petrol, 35 mpg round town and 45mpg on a run!

In a change from all the "economy" shenanigans, I took this Drag Racing today up in sunny Fife..

awesome:)

It never missed a beat!will write a full report on the old blog later, but have a teaser pic..

Your coke sticker fell off pretty quickly. Then my front tyre came off the rim...

..needle that positions itself depending on which corner I've gone round doesnt help..

Slight 'thred-drift', but it concerns Skodas.

Both my Estelle/Rapid had what I think is called a 'hot wire' fuel gauge set up - the needle reacts instantly to the position/level of fuel in tank.

Much hilarity ensued when (1/2 Tank, say) I would wizz round a roundabout and the gauge would say 1/4... then when cranking it off the actual exit of the roundabout (15 seconds later) it was at 3/4...

Acted like those 'clinometers' fitted to Panda 4x4...

as you were....

It stayed on for a wee bit and I have photomagrafix proof!

That looks ace, I'd love to get a couple of my motor on the drag strip.

Next time you're up this way I'm sure we could match up something

Note made, that gives me plenty of time to get my new turbo bedded in, and something else broken ;)

If you come up the day before you can help me fit the 0.205 nozzles I'm having off ya;)
