i’ve never seen it flash but presumed it was part of the alarm - does yours have these sensors either side of the windscreen ?

I think my R129 had the same alarm system, ultra sonic interior sensors and a somewhat crudely integrated red LED that blinks to confirm its working.

Ah thanks mate, it has to be the alarm then. Tbh it could quite be that I've just not noticed it before. However I have recently disconnected the battery which makes me wonder weather I should reset the alarm now 🤔

Glovebox, little sockety thing, matches with the red key with little pins like a proto-USB stick IIRC.

Looking great, so happy to see it getting all the attention :)

Thanks mate , absolutely rest assure she will be get what ever she needs. To be honest credit to you and the previous owners for keeping her in such good condition. I think come winter I will be investing in an outdoor carcoon as I can't bare to see her left out to the elements for another winter.

Not much to update, however I have cleaned all the drain points out and dowsed all the rubber seals in this stuff. Apparently it's the best stuff for the rubber. Gonna get some white lithium for the mentally bits soon too.

I have been thinking I might invest In a gas powered soldering iron, a desoldering tool and a spare relay to go on the bigger k40 relay bank.  Apparently these play havoc if they go. So it would be nice to have if I ever got stranded.

Bought a new exhaust tip as the other was manky. Hopefully I will paint the grey bumper trim black when I have time

Use bumper oil rather than paint or you'll wish it further. Your SLK is looking good  - I reckon values will start to creep up fairly soon as they simply can't go any lower!

Ah thanks mate, do you mean as it will all crack etc...? I was tempted with the oil but I'm wondering will it just turn it dark grey a opposed to black? I'm also tempted to get them vinyl wrapped Instead, but need to consider how much heat from the exhaust is kicked up as it might just melt the whole lot off. Tbf it's a job I still haven't got around to doing.

Regarding prices I saw a yellow one go for 2k the other day at auction. But value not necessarily a bad thing for an owner.  Cheap breaker parts and cheap insurance hehe!! I don't know why there so under valued though as they're cracking to drive and surprisingly practical

If the car's a keeper, treat the plastics with a proper gel. I've got an Autoglym one which is pretty good. It's quick, easy and straightforward to maintain.

Top tip - if you ever need to recharge the a/c one of the service ports is hidden behind the grille. Because of course it is. And the cabin filter is flippin massive too.IMG_8573.thumb.jpeg.45e1330cd906c7872f09244cfc89475f.jpegIMG_8570.thumb.jpeg.a16731d87b0bc874869dea218c057a52.jpeg

Abu Dhabi. The roof goes up if i’m not driving it apart from at work where i have an air conditioned car park. I dare say it will be too hot to drive roof down soon anyway. Luckily the a/c is now the coldest i’ve ever experienced on any vehicle.

I had to fix the roof the other day as it just stopped working even though the pump was running and the fluid level was as it should be. Conventional wisdom says that in such a scenario the pump is internally kippered and needs replaced at £££££ which upset me greatly. However one random post i happened upon from 20 odd years ago on some SLK forum mentioned the possibility that the brass screw for the pump bypass valve sometimes might become not sealed, causing these symptoms and to try unscrewing it, cycling the pump and then doing it up really fuggin tight to reseal it. Worth a try before the wallet emptying I thought - and it only bloody worked! Hurrah! Wonder how many folks have forked out best part of a grand to have a new pump fitted, or worse parted out a car thinking it’s beyond economical repair, when undoing a screw and doing it up again might have saved them?

Other than that since i’ve bought it apart from a damned good service,  i’ve adjusted a window and replaced a roof seal, and all is well.

Ah nice , love Abu Dhabi,  some of the craziest driving I've ever seen there though haha.  Wow what a save, absolutely imagine if you hadn't have happened to see that post!! Hopefully the climate will keep yours from rusting out too!! I see its a left hooker, did you buy it in the middle east?

Yeah I bought it last November. It was actually sold new in Japan by Yanase, one of those specialist dealers that sells European LHD cars despite being a RHD country, because there’s this perception of prestige in driving a LHD in Japan.

The guy I bought it from imported it from Japan in 2017 with 60k km on it, it’s still under 100k (just!)

You can see in the pics that it has weird rubber arch extensions on the back which were only fitted in Japan. Also has lots of Japanese warning stickers all over it, and a strange torch / emergency beacon thing fitted in the door. At one point it had a flare fitted in the footwell too but that is long gone.

There’s no rust on it bar one bolt head on the driver’s seat runner!

The driving over here is a bit mad but once you get into the swing of it you realise that it actually totally works. It is one reason my daily is a double cab F150 though 😂 Driving in the UK properly winds me up now having been over here for a decade or more.

Ah wow that's some interesting history , no wonder it's so pristine, it's probably never touched a bit of road salt in its life. What are your plans keep her indefinitely?

Hahaha I hate to play top trumps but I completely get it. We had a rental f350 there last time . Still managed to lose it in the car park though haha
