Due to the kindness of total strangers I've landed a set of these for free...

I posted on the ArseOnline fb group asking about which wheels will fit the Metro and someone messaged me saying they had an old set of gti alloys I could have for free, they were in Glasgow so not too far away. I'm hoping to have the metro roadworthy by the end of the month.

Crikey, not only a Rio but a Rio Grande! That meant 5 speed box, sunroof, radio cassette, remote locking, rear wiper and colour keyed bumpers on top of the basic Rio spec. I bought one as my first brand new car for £6995 in 1994. Pretty good spec for a sub 7 grand car back then.

Mine gained a set of KN 5 spoke alloys and I colour coded the bumper strips so it looked a bit like a GTa. Those GTi alloys will look the tits on that though.

Had it up on the ramp, there's a couple of bits that have been welded but overall it looks solid.

I need to find a set of wheel nuts for these

I'm guessing the nuts I need are the same over most of the Rover alloy wheel range having checked ebay for similar nuts. I grudge paying £20 for a set of wheel nuts so I think a trip to the scrapyard is in order.

Today I took the opportunity to get some parts from this.

I then fitted the parts to this

Just about every bolt sheared when removing the wings, luckily my Tata is made of rust so the old wings fell off more easily.

It looks totally fucking shit.

Haha, was just about to say the same about bomb disposal look. As an aside, my Dad did that for part of his army career and I found a really interesting documentary on the subject on iPlayer, shot in 1974, a year or so before his training. Also, that Metro does look much better on those alloys, one of my favourites from Rover, who seemingly offered that style on a lot of models - SD1, 200 Vitesse, R8 and Metro IIRC. I hope it gets back on the road easily enough, as it looks like a bit of cheap thrills motoring, which is what small cars should be about.

A shiters price of £400, I paid £300 to save it from the scrapyard and did the necessary welding and work to get it through an mot which runs out in May 2016. I had seen an 80s mazda 323 on Gumtree that I wanted which has now been sold but the seed has been planted for selling the panda so it's still for sale but no real hurry.
