I've been after a van for a while but much like off road bikes at the moment, everything for sale seems to have covid inflation and people are asking way too much for them.
Trying to find a van for £1k or less was proving quite difficult and anything that did appear for sale sold instantly.
I saw the LDV a couple of months back on marketplace with a price of £1234, I enquired about it and the owner wanted offers, I made an offer of £450 as it was out of mot and I needed to factor in transporting it. The seller replied he needed £700 for it and all the welding it failed on on its last test had been done so I agreed to pay £700 and arranged transport, after that the seller stopped responding for a while until he replied that he was going to mot it and sell it for more which was fair enough.

A month after that it appeared for sale again from some relation of his, she said she needed £1k for it as they had spent £700 on welding etc and it was ready for an mot, I said I couldn't get down there until the end of the week and by that point it was sold to someone else.

The person that bought it had to redo most of the welding but did manage to get it through an mot. He advertised it on Gumtree for £1200 which I was prepared to pay for a van with a fresh ticket.
I made arrangements to collect it at the end of the week and turned up to see it on time, I had a look at it, he showed me the bits he'd had to do etc, we wended up chatting for a while, he was impressed with the Subaru MV Pickup I'd arrived in and we talked about that, cars and bikes etc.

I was prepared to just pay the asking price and leave but he basically said he was open to offers on it so I offered £1k which he was happy with, I think because we had got along and I was easy to deal with as a buyer he was happier to haggle.

I transferred the money and jumped in it and drove it back up the road, it drives absolutely fine but the speedometer is out of action, looking at the mot history the mileage hasn't changed since 2018, I really should have paid more attention.

I wanted a van for chucking motorbikes in, I'm hoping in the summer we can chuck the bikes in and drive out to the highlands and explore them by 2 stroke 125's while leaving the van as a base camp somewhere. That's the idea anyway...

Having taken this out for a long run over the weekend and after answering hundreds of questions  from potential buyers I've decided to remove it from sale and keep it, I simply can't be arsed dealing with the types of people who are potentially interested in a car like this.

I bought a set of tyres which I'm planning on fitting to the Bundt "mexican hat" alloys I have for this. I have no real need to sell anything else at the moment apart from being slightly overwhelmed with the amount of cars I have, I just have to try not to buy anything else. I just hate having roadworthy/taxed stuff that's sitting unused for long periods of time so perhaps I'll keep the Mercedes in a summer rotation and park it up each winter.

S123 prices are only going one way, not that you’d necessarily be after the money, but if you ever want to scratch that itch again it’s harder and harder to find one you can stomach paying for.
I miss my 300TD big time - the rose tinted glasses even take the memory away of how haggard it truly was.
If you have the space, I say keep it!

I've been driving this for around 6 months now and getting bored of it lately so would like to swap it for something else, I had a scan of gumtree for suitable swaps and found a Chevrolet Lacetti estate for sale.

The owner seemed incredibly keen to swap so yesterday I cleaned the Mini for the first time in six months getting it into a presentable condition and drove it to Forfar to have a look at the Lacetti.

I took it out for a short test drive, the autobox seemed incredibly rubbish, it would rev really high then awkwardly clunk into the next gear. It was making all kinds of noises from the brakes and the abs and traction control lights were illuminated. The seller tried to tell me that the car had a large fuel tank and his sister had put £10 in and driven it down from Arbroath, the gauge was on empty...

It was quite awful to drive, I spent most of the test drive stuck in roadworks but on the brief occasions I got to drive it, it was a grim experience.

When I got back I got straight to the point, the car wasn't for me so I just fucked off back home in the Mini.

I've now stuck it on Marketplace and gumtree in the small hope that I can swap for something different...

Something definitely amiss with that Lacetti, I drove my Grandads Automatic  Lacetti once and although not really my cup of tea, it actually drove quite nice.

I've been looking on all the usual places for something old or interesting and not much has stood out.

I went to see a 2002 Suzuki swift at the start of the week but didn't buy it mainly because the bonnet catch was broken and it was being held shut with a cable tie.

I spotted this Carina today which has been passed around between a couple of friends, one of them first had it in 2017 so went along and bought it.

I do have the original alloys for it which I bought when the previous owner fitted these aftermarket things so will be refitting them when I get some new tyres.

It drives a lot better than it did in 2017 although the bodywork is a little crustier.

I have someone up in Peterhead interested in the mini so hoping to drop it off and return in the scaab 9000 if I can organise something.

I managed to arrange collection for the Scaab today, the guy buying my Mini met me in Aberdeen not far from Supernaut's house which made things a bit easier.

It pissed down the majority of the day and some trim fell off of the mini on the way up to Aberdeen so spent the majority of the journey with wind noise coming from the A-pillar.

The Saab performed faultlessly apart from the slight clutch judder.

I was sick of looking at the floor plate covered in pigeon shit welding on the ldv so set about removing it and trying to do a tidier job as half of it wasn't even really welded.

I cut out the plate and made up a paper template which I then traced onto steel, cut that out and made sure it fit nicely, I drilled out some holes which ran along the chassis so I could plug weld it too.

I plugged in the welder and discovered some prick had used all of the gas welding his Mercedes so I had to make do with pure argon which was pretty horrible to weld with.

It's definitely better than it was and I hid all of my own pigeon shit welding with seam sealer.

I sold this to my cousin last year or the year before to use as her first car. She has now got a company car so no longer needs it and said I can have it back.

It's a 1.6 auto with mot until September, given my unsuccessful attempts at getting rid of the Carina I probably shouldn't buy it, I can't imagine there will be much demand for it.

I reckon I fancy a change.  This is nice.  Really, quite nice indeed.

But regular readers will know I am growing keener on having a comfortable ride quality these days, and this has 17" wheels on.  Wheels bigger than 15" are suitable only for bicycles.  Hence, here's a roffle.
      WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
      GOOD:
      Black
      Tan leather in good nice
Dual zone climate control which works
      Heated leather front and rear
It's the top spec 250BHP HOT one so it's not entirely slow
      Two good keys
      Memory seats
Stack of history rivalling a CISSP textbook
      MOT until 03/08/2021
I'm getting 33 MPG from it.
      Everything works.
      BAD:
Lacquer peel.  The roof and bonnet have been resprayed at some point, and nearly all the lacquer has come off.  I reckon 5 minutes with a jetwash would make it look matt and less noticeable.
The exhaust has started blowing recently.  I've not even looked at it, it's fine from the inside but throaty from the outside.
It will need a small patch on the bottom of the wheel arch on one side, but looks nothing like as bad as the maroon one which was recently for sale on here.
@davehedgehog31 reckons it sometimes uses a bit of oil.  The owner previous to him had the turbo changed 50k ago (!) in an attempt to resolve this.  However, I've found that generally it's not using oil any more than I might reasonably expect - say, half a pint every 1000 miles?
The OSF wheelbearing drones at 50-55MPH.  I don't do 50-55MPH anywhere, I'm either doing 30 or 80, so this hasn't affected me.  However, there's a new wheelbearing for it in the boot.  I'm THAT lazy.

Given the SMOLL HOLES in the exhaust and wheelarch, I'm sure it's not worth as much as the marvellous looking one for sale on here elsewhere with the lower spec and smaller engine and wrong gearbag.  So I reckon £12 a ticket, or three for £30.  Sound alright?

Not actually a roffle, sorry.  What have been our best roffles? I quite liked winning a Lexus LS400..
    • By Six-cylinder
Six-Cylinder Entertains ‚Äď Virtual Roffle of my Maserati BiTurbo
As I can’t sing or dance I had to think up an alternative entertainment. I have noticed how much people enjoy a Roffle and obviously collection is difficult at the moment so I am holding a Roffle for one of my cars, the difference is it is virtual and no collection needed!

You can dream for a short while of having a Maserati BiTurbo. I value the car at ¬£5,000 so tickets are ¬£84.00, usual format after all numbers are ‚Äúsold‚ÄĚ the bonus number of the next National Lottery draw is the winner

To make it clear you will not get my Maserati at the end of it, neither will you have to pay £84 for a ticket.
I do have a little treat for the winner as I have a 1:43 scale model of a Biturbo saloon to send them as a gift. If you are the winner and want to be taken out in the real one or maybe even have a short drive after lockdown I will be pleased to accommodate you.

Up for Virtual Roffle is my :
1987 Maserati 425 biturbo saloon, 2.5 carburettor twin turbo V6 190 bhp and feels more because of a great wedge of torque in the mid range. 5 speed gearbox with dogleg 1st.
      Owned for 7 years.
MOT 13th November 2020, but I believe it will benefit from having 6 months added to mean it will not need a fresh MOT until May 2021.
Excellent running condition. Just 60, 000 miles, original leather book pack with service history to 48,000 miles then lots of invoices. Cambelt 2 years ago, brake callipers, recent pair of new tyres. Several rubber fuel lines replaced including the dangerous one that lives in the turbo pressure box.
The Bodywork is always a bugbear with these and we have chased rust a couple of time, windscreen surround, front wings and boot floor. Now a very sound and tidy car if not prize winning.
Of course there are some negatives:
      Radio/cassette is not working
      Wheels need refurbishing
      Some wear to the interior
      Idle a little high
Electric boot release can be a bit problematical
Bonnet 2nd catch release needs a clip.

this is mother gm with her little "redster" on the day I handed over the keys

many adventures have been had over the past year but it is now time to find a new home for the plucky pug
basic infos : 126350 miles, mot until October 2020, in the last year it has been serviced, had a new exhaust, battery and a set of winter tyres, it's a fun little thing to chuck about the back roads and, as you can see, is a breeze to park

(she will kill me for using those photos)
the waving elf has sadly been removed, it was deemed to be inappropriate for a funeral convoy last week
the bodywork looks better in the pics than in the flesh, there are a number of scrapes and dings, at some point it's had an accident repair

but the steelies are painted "Peugeot Rallye White" which more than makes up for it
inside is pretty clean, everything works as it should - not that there are many toys, the CD player has an aux in and the windows are electric, the gearnob is a genuine JakeBullet poolball, the parcel shelf is a gm original with one sony and one jbl speaker
that speedo optimistic, it will not top a ton but will do 70 in second if you push it, 90 can be achieved in third, fourth or fifth - it doesn't seem to matter which

there is a spare tyre and toolz and a tottie wee engine in there somewhere

so who's up for a random or two ?
tickets are £12 each or 2 for £20, PayPal preferred, it is taxed (only £20 a year) but not currently insured, location is Chester-le-street, the lucky winner can be collected from Durham or Newcastle station
who wouldn't want to be this happy ?
