The Volvo swap didn't work out so I still have "the purple penetrator"
Not sure whether to keep, sell or try swapping for something of a similar age.
I do like it but it's a bit rubbish to drive especially driving it daily.

I love this. It could only be more appealing if it were a VX2300 or Chevette

Its a 40 year old cortina, welding is par for the course... im not sure I'm buying his faux horror on Facebook.

It doesn't actually need an MOT now anyway as it'll be exempt.

From what I saw you were clear it was not the best example, as CortinaDave said rust is par for the course with Cortina’s (their only failing)and this did not look anything like an original well cared for example! The fact you were less than impressed with it was a clear warning. That said the price was reasonable for what it is, the buyer is clearly a right Herbert. I would give him a grand and take it off his hands though if he wants rid of it (I’m good like that) there is nothing that cannot be put right.

I often think that people expect champion the wonder car when they buy an old ford now because of the price you have to pay to get one.

The reality is a clapped out cortina that you would have paid £500 for 15 years ago is still a clapped out cortina now even though you have to pay thousands to get it.

I love the things but I dont drive one now because even I dont think theyre worth the price they fetch.

I've just read it. Not even sure whyvyou could be arsed replying. I sold a honda 550/4 that hadn't missed or failed an mot in 40 years to a lad in Glasgow sight unseen.  Really lovely thing bit cosmetically tatty but mechanically mint. Proper survivor. He paid a grand and half when they were going for 3 for a minter. Then rang me up when his courier dropped it off to complain it needs the tank painting. I said you bring it back at your expense and ill give you your brass back. He didn't. Worlds full of fucking simpletons

Did they even bother to come and look at it before buying!? It sounds as if they didn’t.
No, they never came to look at it nor did they ask to see any detailed photos of anything.
They saw a cheap cortina advertised and were quick to pay a deposit, I had two other people also wanting to pay a deposit and collect it on a transporter but this guy got in the first.
I did say in the advert it had a few crusty bits and the photos made it look better than it was.
I assumed that he was either going to tart it up and sell it for more money or break it for spares.

This. I’d love a cortina mk4/ mk2 escort sporting model fleet but lack the Necessary finances and security arrangements.

Did he back any of his findings up with photos?

MOTs are subjective at best, just like his opinions on its roadworthiness. I think he's being a tad dramatic.

It doesn’t sound like he’s bitching about the car not being as described, or even badmouthing the seller, more that he doesnt believe it’s had a legit MOT in recent years. I glanced at the thread and it looks like it’s been to various test centres, so unless there’s a dodgy tester been flitting from one garage to another and looking at the car each time, I don’t reckon that VOSA will be much interested.
