That's exactly how I remember them. When I was a weekend skivvy at a local garage in about '93, the owners had a tired Acclaim as a garage hack. I had to pop out in it a few times to pick up parts and my lasting memory is of being taken aback by the carb induction noise, and its willingness to light up the front tyres. It was much more fun to drive than I'd expected!

As an aside, I need to do a proper write up about that place one day. Amongst other things, they had a Fiat Argenta, Fiat Strada (sat on the forecourt for ages), Rover SD1 and brown Renault 12 estate.

So this is what I swapped the Acclaim with, another 305 estate making it my 4th estate and 7th 305 in total! It's a right bastard to start in the morning, tonight I changed the glow plugs which seemed to help a little bit but I think the other issue is air in the system.

There doesn't appear to be a way to bleed the filter system so tomorrow I'm going to swap the filter from my other 305 which has a priming pump and bleed screw on the filter housing and hope that sorts it.

How the fuck do you find these things? Top darts man, keep it up....

This one has been on the forum since last summer when JohnK bought it at shitefest then Ghosty had it and then Loserone had it until he roffled it. Garbaldy won it and swapped me for the Acclaim the other night.

Looks like i need to keep up then....so much swappage going on. Has this forum got a monopoly on all the 305's left? Ive only ever had a go in one, must have been over 20 year ago on walney island, barrow in furness....and that one was fucked then. Kudos to anyone keeping the survivors on the road. They are a cracking car in a sea of pcp'd shite

Spent some more time on the 305 today. Having tried to start it from cold this morning after the glow plug change I was disappointed to find it was still difficult to start.

I changed the fuel filter and lines from my other 305 then used the priming pump to bleed the air out of the system and now it starts instantly.

It'll also run without cutting out randomly which is nice!

What do you reckon to the state of the body? Obviously the wings are fucked, but the bits you had me taking pictures of last year?

Glad you've got the fuel filter sorted, I spent a while faffing with it and couldn't get it right.  I left a few spares in the boot though I dunno if they made it up as far as you.. ?

I've not really looked at it to be honest, I think it looked worse in the photos. Obviously the wings are frilly, It'll be interesting to see if it's possible to repair them. It didn't come with any spares.

The issue with the filter was there didn't appear to be a way of bleeding the system which meant there was constantly air in the fuel.

Someone at work contacted me recently asking if I wanted to buy their van. I collected it this afternoon.

It drives fine, mot is until May and it came with a set of 205 GTI alloys with Toyo tyres in decent condition as well as the original steel wheels. I'm not entirely sure what to do with it apart from maybe selling the alloys. Small vans are quite handy things to have I suppose.

I went to look at a Fiat 126 this morning, I've had various dealings with the seller both buying, selling and swapping.

The plan was to swap my Lada estate for it but when I went to see the Fiat and actually sat inside it I started to have second thoughts, I spent the afternoon mulling over what to do and someone else swooped in and bought it before I had made up my mind.

The 126 owner also had a brilliant collection of cars helping to bring down house values in his neighbourhood...

I went out to look at an automatic car this afternoon, I was unsure about it after the initial test drive because of the lack of leg room compared to a standard manual one but the seller knocked a few hundred off the price so I ended up just buying it.

It drives quite well, a lot better than the other Chevette and isn't too uncomfortable, it's got a wider transmission tunnel which makes it a little bit awkward if you have big feet and want to fit the left foot beside the brake pedal - there isn't a lot of room there.

Wow. My grandad had a gold, A reg Chevette saloon, a ‘special’ no less, with rostyle wheels. Been absolutely years since I saw one like it. I remember it was jerky when it was on choke and he’d say it was running on kangaroo juice. For a long time I thought that was a thing.

Bit jealous of that one!

Amazing collection that guys got... thanks for the pics and well done on the latest buy, looks great.  You deserve a good one given the work you're putting in on the blue one!

His neighbours must be very understanding sorts, I've a driveway full (rammed full), and only two on the street, still get the odd comment from across the way.  They are total fuds though, and jealousy can be a cruel mistress!

Today I said goodbye to a Corolla I bought a year ago.

I've lent it to my cousin who is a couple of years older than me but has only recently started driving lessons and has chosen to drive automatics instead of learning to drive a manual. The mot expires in a month so I've said she can have the car until the mot expires and I'll take it back, mot it and if she wants to keep it she can buy it or if she doesn't want it I'll have it back.
It's been a decent and reliable car over the last year or so and should be decent enough for a learner driver to wreck/learn in.

I also sold the Peugeot van today, it had been difficult to start and hunting at idle, initially I was thinking glow plugs with the cold starting but yesterday when out in it, it started hunting quite badly then losing power and eventually just conked out when I pulled into a petrol station.
It would briefly fire for a few seconds then die.
A random passerby helped us push it onto the forecourt then I used the starter and left it in first gear to make my way towards a free pump.
I was confident I had either run out of fuel or there was so much air in the system it was just refusing to start so I filled half of the tank with diesel.
I found the priming pump next to the fuel filer housing, I pumped it a few times until it started to feel a little bit stiffer to push, I couldn't seem to see a bleed screw so just popped one of the hoses off coming out of the filter housing and a load of air came out followed by some diesel.
I reconnected the hose and the engine started fine.
This morning the van started instantly meaning the difficult starting was just air in the system. I chucked it up on gumtree and within an hour of placing the advert it was sold.

Tomorrow I'm going out to buy another red automatic Corolla...

Ever wonder if that wing on the beige 305 could get any worse?

Some of the filler fell off earlier and instead of just changing the wing I opted to weld some horrific looking patches on and plaster seam sealer all over it and then the paint I used just dripped straight off.

Nice and easy to drive but such a boring grey interior...

I actually like that.
