This forum basically exists because of this fact! Our cars are ridiculously cheap once they get a few years old and "unfashionable". Still perfectly functioning means of transport but one minor failure from the scrapyard. Especially if something highly undesirable to modern tastes.

I know, but some of the stuff is crazy still. Prices bottom out much faster, but follow a really odd (to me) logic for creeping back up. That’s why a lot of things that are ridiculously cheap here seem to cost much more there and vice-versa.

Quite a few premium German breakers are making money courtesy of UK plated cars that are worth pennies there, but quite a bit when broken for parts here. Think E9x  / F1x BMWs and such.

For a long time pre-brexit, many of our "broken" not economical to fix vehicles went off to eastern Europe like Latvia or Lithuania.

No news from mobilize on the battery, don't really mind the whooooo sound it makes to alert pedestrians although TBF I can barely hear it over the general "Tamiya TL-01 brushed motor" sound it makes in general.

Kiltox did suggest that but when I called Mobilize they insisted it does have an agreement open.

The indicators I haven't noticed as especially offensive but that could also be relative to the general racket of the whine and my music.

Although when I contacted the leaf guys it was 8 large on a 2k car that’s never going to stack up so not sure who on earth is paying them? Maybe the upgrade path?

I've not seen what the batteries are like inside but I have seen a 40 battery put in a 22, the pack is exactly the same size and pretty much a bolt in swap.

40 batteries second hand are still around £2k but guess that will come down with time.

This one has 92% health according to the sellers diag tool so not bad on degradation.

Back from holiday and the RR did us proud, will drop it back tomorrow or Monday, I'll let you know.

Actual fixing: an attempt to make the Zoe look a bit less crashed.

Before: bumper hanging off both sides and bonnet comically high

After checking the latch didn't seem to have any adjustment or be mounted to something bent, I identified this hook as the potential issue:

Hammered more flat for an improved shutline.

On the bumper there isn't loads I can do as it's a mess, I think the main structural mounting is meant to be the grill reinforcement in the middle but it's just smashed to bits. So I drilled a couple of discreet holes in the wings to cable tie the edges so they don't flap in the wind.

This side is worse as the one bolt has lost its mounting.

Ideally needs another bumper or reinforcing panel but not today.

I also had a go at pushing out the dent on the boot.

The dent is much smaller now but it obviously still looks like shit.

I also fitted a new speaker. Zoe speakers were too salty for my tastes so I risked £12 on one from a Captur:

Not the same. The holes look like they are in the same place but they're not. I drilled new holes then rather than try and re-rivet, I stuck it on with some sikaflex type stuff, in white obvs for that factory finish.

So I can have choons without farty broken speaker noises and the front bumper is less likely to go walkies.

I don't think I've really improved the looks that much, the front end is a mess and ideally needs a full new bumper and a pair of lights as they've lost their mountings but I ain't shelling out for that shit any time soon unless I happen to drop on some very cheap on eBay or summat.

What might not show in the pictures is there is also a horizontal crease that goes right through the Renault badge so it would need more pulling to be wobbable.

I may look into one of these eBay special slide hammer kits to try and improve it further.

Had another go at the front end including using para cord to tie the bumper up, slightly better.

I'm having a rare stop at a public charger and taking the opportunity to do some HOT MATHS.

These are the scores on the doors according to the car, since purchase.

I was getting closer to 4.1mpkwh average but have done a few motorway trips which bring it down.

Of those 159 kWh, 56 were from podpoint at a total cost of £14.91.

Adding a rough 10% on for charging losses beings the total to about 175kWh so 119kWh on home chargers.

I have mostly managed to charge on the overnight rate of 8.5p, a couple of times I had to charge on the day rate but these were balanced out by a couple of free charges at my girlfriends house.

So assuming an average of 8.5p a unit that's £10.11.

Total cost for the 624 miles then is £25.02.

624 miles in the Golf at 25mpg would have been £159.

So we are up about £134, or the car has 12% paid for itself in 4 weeks.

No, this doesn't include battery lease cost as the useless fuckers obviously still haven't managed to send me anything.

No, I don't have a @320touring style minute-by-minute spreadsheet of charging rates, wind directions and flavours of amps from different providers, so the above guesswork is the best I got.

The heating/aircon on this doesn't work. CanZE reports 0.1-0.2bar suggesting there is no gas in. 

I imagine it probably has a leak somewhere but buying all the kit to try and leak test it myself would get somewhere close to the price of this. They claim no fill, no pay which hopefully doesn't just mean they fire it in regardless of whether it's leaking. 

The thing takes about 1000g of R1234YF so even trying to buy it in cans gets you to about £80.

IIRC they put in a flouro dye so if there is a leak it is easier to trace.
