Torsten's Toss! Is Back!

Swallowtail = dip below the rear number plate and small rear lights, think it was only done on the first year or two, and they command a premium. I guess it makes them go faster or something due to some subtle aerodynamic improvement?......

I think someone would have to park a swallow tail & a non swallow tail side by side for me to notice any difference. Is it obvious?

If they were more advanced why did they stop them very soon afterwards? How can it be an improvement when it's the earlier ones that have it & the later ones don't? They decided to un-improve it!

and I have my eye on this, a Nissan Sunny 1.5SGL Maxima, any thoughts?

Yes, my favourite old Nissan. Note Nissan, NOT Datsun - I have plenty of favourite old Datsuns. This sort seems to have become alot rarer than equivalent saloons. Get it - plus interesting reg no.

We need some daytime shots though!

Hard to believe they're different generations too! The Nippa is a MK3 Mira and the Domino is a MK2. The MK3 is essentially just a slightly stretched out MK2, Japan got new Kei-car regulations so they were allowed to make it a tiny bit bigger.Despite the initial cheap cost, that generation of Nippa has incredible depreciation. Year 2000ish ex-pensioner cars with tiny mileages (sub 30, or even 20K) can regularly go for under £500 privately!

The Volga also recently appeared in a Retro-Rides 'spotting' thread. I scribbled down the phone number on the 'for sale' notice furiously. However, when I broached the subject of it's aquisition, I was fimly told 'don't you bloody dare'. Ho-hum.

Interesting to see a MkIII Escort van the same vintage as the Ital van! The Ital a final incarnation of the Marina meaning that that one particular van type has stood toe to toe with the MkI, MkII and MkIII Escort vans! .....and I wouldn't describe any of the Escort vans (even MkIII) as exactly plentiful compared to the BL vans either!

.... although the Mk1 & Mk2 vans (and estates) are essentially the same thing. Mk2 Vans & Wagons are just MK1's with a facelift and are different to all the 'normal' Mk2's. Even the front wings are different to the saloons. Have a close look next time you are lucky enough to spot one!

In fairness it was a pretty convincing effort they did – maybe it’s familiarity with having seen so many in years gone by, but neither MkII estate nor van look wrong despite being a hybrid of curvier MkI and its more angular replacement.I’m not sure it would have worked quite so well if they’d tried to graft a Sierra nose onto a Cortina estate…

right Mr pogweasel, can you send me a link to the Volga on retro rides? I passed there this morning and it ws gone, the phone number since Saturday went to Orange voicemail but the line now goes dead, I'm devastated, I really want that car or alternatively know it's gone to a good home, bit of a worry!
