Six Cylinders Motoring Notes - Well that didn’t go well!

I'd not read too far into any warning lights in the 306 until it's had a decent run out with a fully charged, healthy battery.

This whole range is renowned for throwing electronic hissy fits if the battery is weak.

If it persists then yeah, getting it hooked up to the scanner will be the order of the day.

When the battery was failing on my first Xantia I had faults logged for systems the car didn't even have!

My favourite description of a Maxi is "Big Gormless Mini".

It’s the similar grill design to the clubman I think. In isolation ( from other cars to compare size) it could be a long wheelbase hatchback mini. Did issigonis have a hand in the design?

Our Mercedes 200TE heater is stuck on max, it did it before and I replaced the duo value and then the control unit that has the temp control dials and it was still on max. I sent it to a Mercedes specialist who after a huge amount of time had a rare customer W124 and swapped the control unit and it worked fine. This proved the second hand unit I bought was duff and they bought a second-hand control unit and it all worked fine for 2 years.

I decided to buy another second-hand control unit and fit that in the hope it would solve the problem.  At the FoD we tried to get the plug out of the replacement unit with its cut off wires, but we were defeated as we couldn't release the tabs that were hidden.

Today I have got the plug out even if I have damaged the casing a bit. Next is round two to get the plug out of the one in the car. @Slowsilver

Issigonis designed Mini and Maxi, but Roy Haynes came across from Ford to restyle the Maxi's snout and the Mini Clubman, which is why their grilles look quite a lot like MK2 Cortinas...

Could be worse. Whoever admitted to the allegro had a jelly mould.

Harris Mann, wasn't it? Except the original design had a flat bonnet, and rather predictably, TR7-esque scallops.

So whoever is really responsible for the Allegro is a production engineer who couldn't grasp the idea of a canted-back E-Series.
