Six Cylinders Motoring Notes - Saying goodbye to a fleet member!

Nice to put some more faces to names. . I’m back home and quite a pleasant drive back involving getting stuck in a police pursuit!

the invacar was in remarkably good condition. Minor tinkering should get it a1.

jinlongling was started but no drive. I somehow got the job of removing the belt cover to inspect only to find the remains of the belt in many pieces wrapped around itself. That would be why there’s no drive then.

slowsilver and I cut the grass under instructions from his lordship. And quicksilver, Beko and I erected the main tent for next weekend.

Photos of the cut and shut field scooter, Italian car corner and compare and contrast the engine bays of a maxi and allegro.

The Field of Dreams was transported through a time portal to the 1970s today

Another fantastic day and it was great to meet a very happy LightBulbFun who was over the moon with his first car. I also got to drive Zel's camper, which goes surprisingly well for something with the aerodynamics of a brick and about 80bhp to lug around nearly 3 tons.

Also this happened - when did you last see a pair of ZXs together?

Mystery delivery is revealed!

Shot just after mr lightbulbfun very kindly let me have a go in it. Quite terrifying! And I nearly reversed at speed through the tent we’d just put up.

I’ve just been reading up on LBF’s thread with its ups and downs. Some great research and detail on the vehicles, but I’ve no real idea why the car register has thrown all their dummies out of the pram, and the connection with the conservative councillor oddball is weird and worthy of a letter to private eye.

But the engine sounds very sweet and starts instantly, brakes need some work I think and apart from the tyres and a couple of bulbs that’s about it. Oh I forgot quicksilver tried to take a windscreen wiper shot to make DW happy. But the motor doesn’t work.  Overall pretty good for 40 years old. And quite a unique first car.

Slowsilver had decided that the mower’s slack in the steering was excessive. Investigation (above) revealed the slack was all in the attachment of the steering wheel.  Slowsilver then directed beko to chop 3mm off the end of the collar, which he did cackhandardly and got the children to do again properly. So we put it back together, and slowsilver told us to take it apart again so he could grease it.

this seems to have been an improvement, and the next hour I spend cutting the grass was mostly problem free.

As richardmorris said earlier successful start up of the Jinling followed by the disappointment of no drive. Richard took the cover off and found the belt was toast.

After everybody left, following advice from Andyrew I took the front drive pulley off and clutch/reardrive pulley off and sure enough as he predicted there were hands full of shredded belt in the front pulley workings. The good news is it looks like the clutch is fine.

Now I need a belt, it carries the Markings 139 C, 140 C, 141,C, 142 C TZBRT, VARIABLE DRIVE, FOR MOTOR CYCLE.
