Six Cylinders Motoring Notes - Well that didn’t go well!

Today we held a Field of Dreams event on our own, sad to say it is not the same as having you guys along.

For a start Mrs6C had to change a wheel and I had to do my own mowing!

The Pheasant was not happy with what I did to his field.

I hope the Wagtail was not looking for a nesting site inside my Range Rover wing.

Where did the milk float come from?

Keep up at the back, there! :-)

Molly the milkfloat has been resident since November 2019. Her original roof was removed many years ago as she has spent the last two decades as Santa's sleigh for the Machen Rotary Club. There is another roof with her but it's for another make of float so it's a bit short. With some clever bracketry it will be made to fit.

Molly was fully mobile and worked from late November up until Christmas every year, travelling around the neighbourhoods of Machen and Caerphilly in south Wales, raising money for charitable causes. Her last season was Christmas 2018 and there used to be a video up on Facebook of her doing one her 'rounds' at night, all illuminated with Christmas music playing as well. Her headlight wasn't in use in the video, but I guess it was used to get her to and from where she needed to be. IIRC she has raised over £2m for charity over her time with the Machen Rotary Club.

Remember six years ago we were given an almost brand new Mercedes Benz from this very forum!

Well not quite new but it has been a very good car. Last year the heater became erratic and it was so good that when it went hot it was unbearable whatever the outside temp so I had it looked at. I had replaced the valve unit, but it turns out twice with faulty units, now a Merc special has found another one and it all works again.

The central locking has played up for some time and it has been diagnosed as the vac pump, just there seem several types so that is still on going.

Also it ran out of MOT last Oct while sat with the specialist so now it is MOT time. A Fail but not bad and I have instructed the work needed to get the MOT to be carried out.

So the W124 200TE is making its way slowly back to us.

Just before lockdown occurred I was taking our Vanden Plas 1500 (Allegro) for a safety check instead of an MOT to a local garage I am trying out, when the clutch started screaming and dragging. They are working again now and it turns out the release bearing had seized and cut into the cover. I have supplied the new clutch so hopefully in the next 2/3 weeks it will get to the head of the queue.

I am speechless.

I’ve recovered now, what is the plan for the ‘float?

Full-on restoration and then start a local home-made cider and obscure car parts delivery service?  Remake of that Father Ted episode? Or just going round and round the FoD until the batteries run out of juice?

Here we are again, there is NO plan!
