I have one less Visa, it has been planned for some time but finally today it happened.

 

It meant the digger could go back to its usual spot and the first start up in 6 months, I selected a medium sized car battery and was not disappointed that the old 3.8 BMC diesel started easily with the usual plume of smoke.

It never used to be a problem though. So, is it changing fuel that causes this, or was it just that 2CVs generally didn't sit around for weeks/months at a time back in the day?

 

Probably they never used to sit for months at a time. But unleaded also has more volatile components than four star.

With just a garage of tools a hand drill, pillar drill and choice words.

 

Oh yes thank you so much, your knowledge was invaluable and it would have not turned out so well without you.

 

This summer will be the first time I will be able to have my roof fully open with it strapped in place as intended because previously I was missing the studs.

I have done a brim to brim mpg check on the XM. 60.57 ltr for 328.5 miles gives 24.6 mpg. I guess this is about right for a heavy under powered 2.0i Auto that has only been used locally.

 

The fuel gauge was giving me false hope saying I had only used a little under half when I had used three quarters of the 80 Ltr tank, so it was going to plunge if I keep going or dump me still showing fuel on the gauge!

I'm pleased to read about the XM, I noticed it last Friday, when passing Chez6C , but didn't recall any mention of it here. Didn't want to post anything in case one of you had an XM driving secret admirer...

Incidentally sorry if the pair of Golf R s passing your house last Friday caused any disturbance, I was really trying to be sensible .

 

From what I remember of 2.0 auto XMs is they were much worse than Carltons and Granadas when it came to all running costs, including fuel ( also the brakes fade to nothing quite easily)

tingewick bypass again?? :lol:

 

interested to hear how the engine build went on the access :)

I have had the XM since 10th Feb and announced its arrival in post 3475.

 

My Mercedes 200TE is broken and Mrs6C told me she needed priority on our 156 V6 Sports wagon so I bought another 156 V6 for myself. 10 days later the S-Type Jaguar came up and I had always wanted one. Then careless talk on this forum mentioned a XM might be available! I did sell the S Type but we still have 2 working 156 V6s!

 

I sold XMs new and later I used to drive my friends regularly first a CT Auto saloon then a 2.1 TD Auto Estate, I was getting withdrawal symptoms!

I still miss that XM. It's a good car under its scruffy appearance. A respray is out my budget unfortunately and the reality is it's not worth the expenditure. After the X rally this weekend work will start on the XM estate as want it on the road in may.

I don't have an XM, but do have a TCT engined Xantia.

 

I see mid 30s on a long motorway run, but low to mid 20s are the norm around town - granted I do tend to have a rather heavy right foot driving it though - C'mon...the Activa wasn't built to be driven gently...

Sunshine today for a Convertible with a fresh MOT and service.

 

I have owned my MX5 for a little over 6 years and done just over 4,000 miles in that time. The report from the garage who serviced it, is it has surface rust underneath particularly on the suspension components but nothing horrid. 1st time MOT pass with no advisories. 

 

Nothing to do now except enjoy it!

I renewed my classic car insurance yesterday and got myself confused with the number plates. I had never noticed that I had two car with the same 3 digit number in the plate and even the same letters in a different order, this in spite of having had the Visa Special for 3 1/2 years and the 2CV 4 years!
