Does beg the question about the state of the pipes you can’t see.

I have had the heads of it and there was no gung in them, all rubber pipes are being replaced and the water pump is being replaced. The only worry is the radiator and the heater which I will have try flush them out.

I reckon this is a case of stuck thermostat + aluminium + mixed brands of antifreeze + time so all the silt is on one side - the manifold wasn't as bad as the pipe. Whatever it is  should be dissolvable though...

This is where distance is annoying as that flange would fit a small ultrasonic cleaner and I'd chuck it in there with half a dishwasher tab.

My pick of your year, @Six-cylinder

After a pretty dismal last half of 2022 and not being on here much I'm hoping to finally get to a FOD in 2023, be even better to have a ride in something French and hydro :)

We own 6 Hydro Citroens, 4 of which are on the road. The XM is out and about while the others have been put in undercover storage for the winter.

On To 2023

We still have quite a fleet to maintain in spite of this year’s sales which will keep me pretty busy. Then we move onto the new targets for 2023.

I plan to hold quite a few FoD events and maybe I should focus each one on a particular car. Requests to come and work on particular cars will be accommodated when ever possible.

Targets for driving next year 2023

·         1976 Opel Manta

·         1974 Saab 95

·         1994 Cadillac Eldorado Touring Coupe

·         1983 Citroen LNA

·         1993 Renault Safrane 3.0 RT

·         1976 Vanden Plas 1500

·         1974 Peugeot 504 Cabriolet

·         1993 Vauxhall Carlton 2.0i Club Estate

·         1985 Range Rover

The never ending Job list for 2023 without listing all the normal services and MOTs we will achieve.

Some other maintaince/improvements I would like to achieve in 2023

Lancia Trevi 2.0 – more rust treatment, not to repair it just to stop it getting any worse

Fiat Seicento – fit new os front wing

Mercedes 230TE – replace rear suspension arms

MG Metro – Head gasket (has small oil leak)

Xantia Activa – adjust suspension level

Carlton 2.0i Estate – head gasket

Vauxhall Royal – start for the first time

BMW 330Ci – start it

Alfa 156 – Front spring?

Citroen CX – buy donner spares car

Volvo V70 T5 – engine warning light

Visa Cabriolet – weld boot hinges

Citroen AX – touch up paint marks

Alfa Giulietta – start

BMW 3.0S – knock rust bubbles back and rust proof

Peugeot 504 – make run

Bedford CF – start

Triumph Vitesse – rebuild gearbox

VP 1500 – weld ready for Allegro gathering in May

Herald 1200 coupe – start

Saab 95 – Refit engine, replace fuel tank, rebuild brakes

Peugeot 404 – sort the lights, tidy the appearance from 10 feet

Motorbikes

Mrs6C is getting quite anxious about my nasty habit of buying broken mopeds!

So what have we got intended for field use:

1984 Honda Vision

2000 Peugeot Elyseo 50

2012Direct Bikes ZN125 black

Direct Bikes ZN125 pink

2010 Yamaha Aerox 50

1974 Velosolex 5000

2013 e. Moto by All Seasons Electric assist bike (This is not mine but still seems to count against me)

Bikes intended for Road use

 1979 Peugeot 103

2003 Aprilia Habana 125cc

We now have 9 bikes and none of them work! I think early next 2023 we will have to hold a FoD gathering to get some working, as most of us enjoy a ride around on an old moped.

What’s the sales list for ‘23?

Hope to get to a couple of FoDs this year. Not much use for work. Very good at tea drinking.

It has been a great first day of 2023 for car stuff.

It was Stony Stratford New Years Day Classic event where the whole town is shut down for cars from 1900 to late model super cars along with Military vehicles, bikes and other odd things like tractors.

Getting up at 7am this morning seemed tough but the reward was a ride in ianbmw's Opel Monza GSE. Knowing there was also a chance I could drive the Monza home as Ian had his company prize Porsche 924S already there on show to be given away later in the year. Because I am unlikely to see the 924S again but the Monza is Ian's and local when I was offered the choice of driving the 924S or the Monza I requested  Porsche. For extra greatness of the day I have got to keep the 924S until tomorrow.

I left home this morning in @Andyrew  Astra and returned in the Porsche 924S, I had to reassure Mrs6C this was a temporary situation and I had not purchased a car on day one of 2023!

I remember the thread on RR a few years back when he restored that Monza. It looked mint at the time. I'm assuming it's a daily now? Great to see it being used although I hope he doesn't let the elements (and salt)  undo all his good work.

Ian rescued the Monza from a field in October where it had sat since 2017. He MOTed it, took it on a Classic Rally in France and now it is standing in for his broken daily. It has rust in the front wings, rear arches and needs a respray, but the underside is solid. It will get sorted out this year.

Wow. Monzaphil on RR resurrected the Monza in 2013 and in 2015 it was resprayed and looked immaculate. I wonder what happened in the intervening years? I'm amazed he left it sitting after putting so much work into making it solid.

Here it is in 2015.

Edit: I see Monzaphil bought the car from a bloke called Ian in 2013 when it needed a fair bit of resto. Is it the same Ian who bought it back a decade later, or just coincidence?

Oh, now there's a choice!

I had a 924S, wonderful thing. So well made, and just the right amount of power, but... Monza.

Looking at the height on that I do wonder if ours was a LeMans after all. It had LeMans wheels and sat lower I think, but no idea if it was 160hp. Maybe the white is also deceptive.

While I totally get the wondering what happened bit, you do remember what "new" Monzas looked like after 7-8 years surely? 2013-15 is about as far back as a Monza's trip from showroom to scrappy!
