Assuming I can get a repair kit delivered in time, would it be OK for me to sort my OMGHGF at the Field? I've got the tools, but moral support might come in useful 🥴

Most definitely yes.

Some experience of the matter has been gained with my own K series 114.

Be a right laugh driving that thing round London I bet! Is it ulez compliant?

Probably exempt, definitely not compliant. The end result is the same but very much not the same thing. If I ever need to drive in to London again I'll have to use the Triumph despite it being the most polutey car I own. It's a great* system.

I swear the number of 70s Mercs in Central has more than tripled in the last few years. Logically, it makes sense for anyone remotely mechanically-minded - getting a loan for a decent, reliable classic and setting aside money for maintenance will still probably cost less each month than buying/leasing an equivalent size brand new car - and the value won't have dropped by anywhere near as much after a few years.

  • Six-cylinder changed the title to Six Cylinders Motoring Notes - FoD opening 2/3 July it's Go!

Don't wet your pants but FoD 2/3 July is On!

Friday evening 1st July at 6.30pm there a small car gathering of the Milton Keynes Classic Car Club and I am planning to go. It would be nice if a few others joined me as all are welcome.

The meeting is at The Giffard Park, Broadway Avenue, Giffard Park, Milton Keynes, MK14 5QN. It is 13 miles from FoD. It is a low cost pub where you can eat if you wish. There is parking for all cars so don't worry if you think yours doesn't qualify.

Show your car Milton Keynes railway station!

Mrs6C is away 2/3 July with a right rough crew in Wakefield!

Mrs6C has been collecting Lightbulbfun from the station Saturday late morning and returning him early Sunday evening for FoD, but won't be able to this time. I may be able to but would rather not leave site. Any volunteers?

I can pick him up en route, assuming my engine doesn't violently seize or boil itself into oblivion.

(Don't worry, it'll be fiiiiiiiiine...)

what sort of time works best for you? :)

generally I aim to catch the 10:20 or 10:43 from Euston which gets me at MKC around 10:50 or 11:13, but I am happy to work with other times

if its too much bother then dont worry! im trying to avoid being a pain in the arse if I can help it!

I haven't been to one of these (but fully intend to make it to this! I will try to notify early if the best laid plans of mice and men come to naught) so what is the format?

Is it as I expect? (That is that we turn up, do some working on cars and facilities and socialising as we go?) Anything else I should be aware of? (Stuff to bring, timings etc)

It seems like a chilled out kind of event where like-minded people get together to help each other, so please correct me if I'm wrong about something!

° bring tools and cut down the racking to fit in the container

I'm not sure of my movements yet, there might be something work related on the Friday, although my buddy has dropped out now s if I go ill be driving so I'll probably be there on Saturday at some point. Sans kids too 🎉

I need to cable tie my inner boot trim back together too! driving with it up/Charlie trying to close it from inside has pulled it all really loose. I've fixed it thus far by not opening the boot or really driving it at all but it'll want looking at 🤔

The format is easy, turn up do as much or little as you please. Work on our projects or your own. Bring non car projects to do here if you want. I normally arrive at 10 am Saturday but arrangements can be made for early or Friday arrivals.

Bring your own food and drink although there is tea and coffee making facilities.

Free camping, RV, motor caravan, caravan, trailer tent, van, or sleep in your car. Bring a tent even flowery 1980s ones!

Remember we don't have insurance for you however you hurt yourself so be careful and look out for others.

Pets, children, wifes, parents are all welcome. The only facilities on site are mains water and a Dunny (composting toilet in a wooden shed Australian style) Yes it did end up with walls and a door!

PM for the address when you know you are coming.

That would be ideal, it leaves me the whole afternoon to break my car even more. I'll PM you next week sometime to confirm.

I have not been brave enough to take the Toledo 4 door out for a drive yet after all the initial problems of it cutting out and not restarting without a short rest. Now each time I go to the FoD I start it and run it round the the field with no problem.

I am hoping we can improve the Toledo 4 door in a few different ways so I can start using it.

  • Check legals and levels
  • Test drive it with shadow car and tow rope
  • Refit front interior door panels
  • Temp gauge does not work and fuel gauge sometimes stops working and then returns
  • Paint bonnet Damson

Wanted timber for shelves

I am erecting some shelving in our new container for the storage of car parts and we have bought used heavy duty metal uprights and cross bars. The shelves are 900mm deep and 1500mm wide.

I have looked into buying proper shelves and plywood sheets and they are prohibitively expensive in the quantity we need. The shelves need to be strong and I am thinking at least 18mm thick. I don’t think chip board or composite material will work well in an unheated environment with a 900mm span. I am planning to use reclaimed timber from pallets. The pallet timber are only 75mm wide on average so I will need lots of them.

Does anybody have any timber they want gone out of the way?
