Six-cylinder Posted September 8, 2021 Author Posted September 8, 2021 Episode 2 of the Sebring is still a non starter. The only thing I did was disconnect the MAF which made not difference. I don't know what to do now. It is in the centre of the drive right in the way. So the BMW E36 323i got taken for MOT instead. Started off its own battery after sitting for several week and is a delight to drive. chaseracer 1
Six-cylinder Posted September 8, 2021 Author Posted September 8, 2021 This evening I had asked for @ianbmw to help me get my Citroen GS out of storage ready for a local Citroen show at the weekend. I got a text this afternoon to ask if I wanted my lift in his E46 BMW 320D or his classic 3.5 Auto Range Rover? My reply was Range Rover burning aviation fuel no matter what it costs! We had to move some cars about to extract the GS. 1. BMW M3 Evo started on the button as it has been out recently. 2. Maserati Biturbo needed jump pack but started with some churning. 3. Citroen BX GTi started easily, Ian has a soft spot for this one so took it outside and positioned it so it could be photographed with his car and the GS. 4. GS needed the jump pack and took some churning before it burst into life. The volt meter showed top of the white segment but the rev counter was jumping around that made me think there was a charging problem. In Winslow, a small town it cut out at a junction and the battery was dead, Ian leapt out of his RR and popped the jump pack on and it started and made it home. It is now on charge for the night and I will see if the battery is ok in the morning. chaseracer, Yoss, inconsistant and 17 others 20

In Jan 2007 I was not working in the car industry but had a car mad boss and while at work with his encouragement I bid and won it. The encouragement was so strong that he even said if I won it he would take me the 150 miles to Grimsby. I had it about a year and realised that at some time in the future it was going to need lots of expensive work so sold it while it was a legal working car. I watched it change hands several times with Mrs6C saying you should buy that back so when it was at deaths door in Nov 2013 I did. Lots of work mechanically, new floors and a full repaint followed. It was always a bitser, it started as a 1015cc G special and by the time I got it it had a 1299cc engine and 5 speed gearbox. Also it was fitted with a Pallas interior. I like the larger engine so have kept it like that. In 2019 it got a role in "In the Long Run" the Idris Elba life story TV program. At a young age Idris was allowed to move such cars working part time in a garage. The young actor who was playing him was too young to drive so I understand my GS was towed with a filming platform in front. beko1987, Dyslexic Viking, richardmorris and 12 others 15

Six-cylinder Posted September 9, 2021 Author Posted September 9, 2021 I collected my DS today following having the accumulator sphere and the two front wheel spheres being replaced. It is lovely to drive with replacement front spheres much smoother now. Also the pump has stopped working overtime now it has a replacement accumulator sphere which is the pressure reservoir for the brakes, suspension and power steering. A yard of Citroens of all shapes and sizes including mine. chaseracer, Floatylight, Longbridge Apologist and 13 others 16
Longbridge Apologist Posted September 9, 2021 Posted September 9, 2021 I know they are ruinous but every time I see a C6 I want one. However if I was seeing sense, what would be the best "My First Citroen"? Probably as a daily. Low Horatio gearbox 1

Snake Charmer Posted September 9, 2021 Posted September 9, 2021 I wish my Father had put the 1015cc Ami 8 on the road I found him for a spares car. I found a road test that said it was faster accelerating than an Austin1300 GT. GoGently 1

AnthonyG Posted September 9, 2021 Posted September 9, 2021 Is that Sebring a US import? I only ask because I’m sure they officially imported RHD ones around the time they did Neons and Voyagers (i.e. before all that ghastly Dodge shit like the Caliber/Nitro). Of course, these may all be extinct now. There is a later generation one (‘08 plate) locally.

RHD only available on the third generation Sebrings. Second generation was LHD only; Chrysler UK brought in 50 LHD convertibles as a one-off batch. The Americans did have a go at the RHD game for about 20 years - Cadillac, especially - but have lost interest. Still, if you want a US car in RHD, dealers like Clive Sutton will do all the donkey work to convert it. AnthonyG 1

Talbot Posted September 11, 2021 Posted September 11, 2021 It's in the air: Initial investigation of the rear subframe mounts shows a fair bit of grot: Subframe off: It was actually quite a bit more involved than that, but came out OK in the end. Worst bit was having to remove the OSR seat base and back to get to the ABS electrical connector inside the car. It is a bit crusty. Turns out not just one side but both: All repairable. I've fixed worse. Bushes were absolutely knackered: Anti-Roll bar bushes will need sorting too: Six-cylinder, LightBulbFun, richardmorris and 6 others 7 2
