Six Cylinders Motoring Notes - 22/23 August FoD Open Weekend, now confirmed.

Recommended Posts

The second disruption of Wednesday is exciting, well for me it is, I got back today our Mercedes 200TE fully working after 18 months. Six years ago an Autoshite member gave us this car and I have always loved it, in the beginning of 2019 it had a number of problems so it had to go to a Mercedes Specialist.

I took it up to the FoD to show it off to Mrs6C and draw your attention to the old style Autoshite sticker that came with it.

I drove the 30 miles to collect it and then a Renault 11 followed me home!

I can't even remember the full list work the W124 went in for but it included:

a replacement Duo value for the heater

Welding to the drivers floor involving the carpets being striped out.

New off side front wishbone as bushes could not be removed.

New road spring as broken

Wiring repaired for central locking

New wiper blade

MOT

Why so long, I don't think he really thought somebody with a tatty 200TE was going to want the pay the bill for the work needed to get it going again, I could be wrong.

Is that a 4 or 6 cyl? I’m not sure on my merc  nomenclature.

This is a 4 cyl 2.0i 8v almost the lowest of the low but there were carbs in the early days.

In the past all 4 of my other W124 were sixes, two 3.0 12v, 3.0 24v and a 3.2 24v. The 200TE reminded me how much I like W124s and I thought about changing it for a 6 cylinder, trouble is the 200TE we have is such a pleasure I am afraid I would part with a great 2.0i and end up with somebody's junk 3.0i so I think we will just keep it.

...got an Electrolux Z2060 in the washing basket ready for machine polishing and a Samsung upright in the airing cupboard..

Only in this electronic parish would that make any sort of sense.  This place, etc. 🙂👍

I hadn't realised there was a new style of AS sticker! Got one of those to go in the back window of the xsara, think I bought a fistful at a previous shitefest!

I thought they had been updated maybe I am wrong. I like this style and will get a couple more if they are still available.

I think I'll be going with a "Swiss Toni" dealer sticker in the CX...

do you still have one of the old style ones I could persuade you to part with?, :)  I regret not picking one up for REV when they where still available

(I have not got anything against the proposed new design, but I dont think its 1980's design fits well with REVs 1950s-1960s look, so would like one of the older ones for her :) )

The glass is probably the only bit left that isn't rotten, so is probably more structural than the bodywork by now 🙂.

Just like an ageing 2CV... 😁

I am thinking of getting my 2CV out for the event, worryingly it has some rust bubbles forming in the 5 years I have owned it and I have never even taken it to Wales!

It's been out more than a certain Dyane though 😉

It went back together and we think the major problem is fixed but I made some sort of error reassembling the CVT bits so it will run but won't move under its own power.

Won't be a super easy fix but should be achievable if I put some effort in before I start drinking 🙃

We will be ready for another FoD open weekend in August with the use of our 10 acre field. I am thinking 22/23 Aug

I would like to come, van camping Saturday night.

The Covid troubles do keep the diary relatively empty and for once I have a free days on a FoD weekend.

I am sure a brand new Kawasaki Mule will make a nicer sound and be much better, it's just the matter of £7,000!

if you had a Kawasaki when the belt broke then you could have raided one of the invacars/the parts stash for a new belt!

or well according to Dayco the drive belt by the part number HP2020 which is for some Kawasaki's is the best modern equivalent to replace the NLA Model 70's belt, so I assume the reverse may also work? LOL

Saturday they came, raked the hay into rows and bailed it so we are ready for FoD open day.

I could not help myself and had to have a drive round , wish you all could have been here.

Now we have to see if the weather will cooperate because it was a lovely day up there yesterday.

was the beemer getting baled too :P:D

We have owned the 735i for 12 years, I have been shopping in it, round the Nurburgring flat out, maxed it out on a German autobahn and set a personal record of spending 7 hours solid behind the wheel driving to Edinburgh on a Friday night without even a fuel stop. You go before the 735i goes!
