I’m in the trade I purchased a cam belt kit, retimed and fitted the new belt, pulley and tensioner, but alas it looks as if the pistons have hit the valves on at least three cylinders as it won’t even try and run.

Why? Just why would you chuck time and effort into that.

Funnily enough I'd much rather see that VIN put on some other accident damaged shell than left on that shitheap after any conceivable amount of 'restoration'.

Can you get new reshells for these?

Yeah you can get brand new shells for them (or will be able to soon), I remember a motorsport prep company putting out some stuff about brand new MK1 shells last year.

Fair enuff then the VIN and V5 are worth a pretty penny to some cash-rich historic motorsport enthusiast. And I don't think it's a ringer if you can prove it's a genuine new reshell of what remains of an Escort Mexico.

Is the eBay ad suggesting Daytona Yellow is rare as the shell is red inside?

You must be mistaken as that shiny yellow painted scrap of metal that looks like I made it on my kitchen table , clearly says Yellow and AVO, hence £££££s.

interesting that the logbook says yellow but doesn't mention the word Mexico ( or Escort ) anywhere, presumably that VIN plate has a Mexico chassis number on it , although the low price suggests those in the know are as dubious as us.

Very few Escorts survived the 80's without  reshells thefts, ringing, crashing etc this is as shady as my tax return.

Escort will be bought by scum who will know where a mint Escort is.

The mint Escort will be taken from legitimate owner by scum.

Ebay Escort will miraculously be repaired in 5 minutes and probably repainted at some point to whatever colour shows on Ebay logbook

Ebay Escort will then be worth £££££££££££.

I've seen what this type of scum does to take cars etc.

Can anyone see in engbay pic if there are holes for a master cylinder between column & tunnel rather than a tube for a clutch cable? As gen Mexico/ RS1600/ lotus twincam mk1's all had a hydraulic clutch.

On picture 12 it does look to me like there is a clutch cable coming out by the brake master cylinder bulkhead reinforcement plate. I cannot see the clutch master cylinder holes.

Only just down the road from me as well ....

Edited for spelling

Plate shows 1600cc 'GT' with 3.78 diff, colour code T is Daytona, so ID is for a Mex.  Also recorded as 1601cc (correct detail for Mexico, although actual cc was still 1599).

Passenger door appears to be from an L or XL as it has the formica veneer trim.  The car must have been used with a red painted passenger inner door despite having had a whole yellow respray outside, (but TBH that's the least of your worries with this shell).

Reg number has been covered up in the documentation but it's still showing in the blue bit in the documents. It's PSE 316M.  May be worth keeping an eye out for it should it miraculously reappear as a 'long-lost' mint-condition survivor.  A huge amount of work to be done there but it can all be done, at a price.

Reminds me of the long-term-owned Mexico from TripleRich's Granada thread which went from this . . . .

to this . . . . .

Would be good if someone saved the yellow one properly without resorting to undesirable activity, although there's not really much left of it any more.

Link to Ex-Pressed Steel Panels if anyone fancies a challenge.

https://www.steelpanels.co.uk/category/ford/escort-mk-1/

Am guessing the Mexico ID will go on an imported shell in better condition, converted to rhd, which is better than no 'Mexico' at all. Some of these had extra strengthening plates as standard on low spec models.  PSE 316M.

DVLA records show road tax was due 1st Sept 1993.

Oh dear at least he is honest....

Found on my land when I purchased it so I have no details to offer. Very happy if you want to inspect. If you want any of it you take it all, I just want rid. Suggest it might pull onto a transporter, equally it may fall apart.
