Mystery Scottish Renault 14

This is probably going to be the biggest long shot in Autoshite history and I know I am am clutching at straws.

Some time ago (at least two years) a blue X registration Renault 14 was found in a garage (IIRC) somewhere in the north (IIRC) of Scotland, it was definately Scotland I can remember that much! The photo appeared in photobucket or one of the other hosting sites, I think. At the time someone emailed me a link to google of the general location but it was not clear who owned the garage and I had other things on my plate at the time so I did not explore it any further! Unfortunately I cannot access that email account anymore

There was some time later a comment on the photo's thread that the car had gone but no explanation as to where or how.

It looked tidy from the pictures, very similar to the one Mr. Bickle saved a few years ago.

I just wondered does anyone in Scotland know of the where abouts of it or what might have happened to it. I'm hopeful that it may have gone to an enthusiast but I have a horrible suspicion that someone just saw an old car in a garage and scrapped it.

Certainly if it had been for sale I would have been very interested as I would now as I am itching to get another 14 as they are my favourite car of all time!

I apologise for being so vague and I don't expect anything to come of it!

The Y reg GTL that kicked around for a while a couple of years ago has been scrapped because I used it for parts for mine. Again that one was sold on and has recently changed hands again for very little money. They are seriously unloved cars. You get a lot of interest when you have one but it never quite converts in to real cash from real buyers. The number of people who complained when I scrapped the Y reg one was a joke, they all had a chance to save it for very little money but I think they expected me to give it to them and finance the restoration

@angrydicky, yes that is in the one thanks.

@panhard, I agree mine got commented on a lot but most had forgotten they had ever existed! Even someone who had owned one. I would honestly say my tatty white one was one of the best all round cars I have owned. Roomy, comfortable, practical (carried four men and luggage to Snowdonia), fun, smooth engine, nippy if only a 1.2) and a smooth ride. If I had been more aware at the time I would have protected it better (thats one lesson learnt).

I remember the Y reg one, I was very interested in it but I decided it was too far gone for me to take on plus I had other projects on the go. I understand why you scrapped it and at least it helped keep another on the road.

I would love to know what happened to the blue one (or maybe I wouldn't)!

Are you 100% sure it wasn't a Volvo?

We had a red one also YUX349T it had side rubbing strips which I think may have been a Renault Boutique option. It was scapped at eight years old due to being totally rotten although it was still very good mechanically!

I did wonder how it got over the border!

Maybe someone thought it was an 11 which had the Volvo engine (or was it the other way round) and so accepted it!

Rotten at 8 years old.  Can't say Renault didn't warn you in advance.

XVS717S. In 1990 dad came back from the pub with a Renault 14 TS,purchased for the sum of £400.

It was quickly christened wasp mobile due to being a delighted hue of yellow, with go faster black stripe.

At the time I cringed being driven round in this monstrosity, but now would give my all,to have you.

I know the lad who went back for a look at farm where I found it and he assured me it was gone, I have no idea what happened to it, soz!

I'll drop by next time I'm in the area for a look.

That's great thanks. I suspect most people clearing a garage and finding a Renault 14 in there would just assume it was of no interest to anyone and get it took away, but I guess you never know!

Whatever happened to MrRegieRitmo formerly of this parish?

He had one, as well as a Fiat Strada, hence his name. He had been driving it on the road but it was in storage At the time he posted on here. He lived/lives in Sussex somewhere so Mr Bickle might know.

Mr Bickle does.

Rich is a bit loved up, and off old cars at present. However, he's done the honourable thing, and garaged both his 14 & Strada. (I know his 14, not seen his Strada), someplace in Bognor.

Perhaps in later life he'll return to the fray? Who can tell...

Mr Regie has been reportedly loved up for a few years now. Can't believe it's not worn off yet. Come back WUF.
