Parky
1991 - Mark 1 Renault 5 TL - rusty 1992 - Vauxhall Chevette L - total shit 1995 - Peugeot 106 Aztec (girlfriends car but I paid for it so it counts) - quite good 1996 - Renault 5 Campus - was alright 2000 - Fiesta Zetec - liked this, knocked out wishbone bushes for fun though.  Odd electrical faults 2002 - Honda Civic 1.5 (1987 Japan import) - not so keen on this 2003 - Toyota Corolla 1988 - regretted this.  Sold a pup by a lying bastard 2004 - Toyota Corolla executive auto 1993 model - thoroughly excellent.  Several years family service from this 2005 - Kia Picanto - surprisingly good 2008 - Seat Leon (kept to 2020) - superb 2011 - Mini Cooper - fun, bits fell off regularly but fun 2012 - Fiat 500 Twinair - nice noise 2016 - Fiat 500x - impressive all rounder, hard to sell though and took a mega loss 2019 - New Mini Cooper Classic (written off 3 months later) - good while it lasted 2019 - Mini Cooper R56 2008 model - bit nervous about this but was ok 2020 - Suzuki Swift Sport - excellent car 2020 - Mitsubishi Mirage - utter shite but I am bonding with it now, like a scabby stray dog Thatâs never had any affection With the exception of the 2019 Mini, I have never owned a really nice car!  I think I am fully converted to Japanese cars now

Sadly crashed into and eventually sold. 2003 03 BMW 316i SE - First of post Millennium cars. 1998 S Volkswagen Passat - Freebie and given away. I owned it for a matter of of a week or two. 1995 Rover 820i SE - Subsequently broke down on me during a particularly difficult time in my life. Sold to a breaker sadly ⚠2002 02 Vauxhall Vectra 2.2 DTi SRi Estate - Another one of the nicer conditioned cars I owned. Sadly I just found it a tad boring to drive. 2001 51 Peugeot 406 2.0 HDi - Buy/sell fodder. 2005 55 Vauxhall Vectra 1.9 CDTi estate - A car I fondly remember. Loved it but sadly the engine went on it ⚠2005 05 Vauxhall Zafira - Great car. Not very fast. Did return some missing OEM items. Eventually swapped for below car. Then ended up back in the fold and now with a member of a shiters family. Maybe buy it back one day? 2008 Peugeot 407 SE 2.0 HDi saloon - Originally buy/sell fodder but became my boring daily as Vectra blew its engine. So far so good. Repairs have worked and been easy and it seems to be getting better.
eddyramrod
I somehow didn't know about this thread when I started my own the other week! So there's my history, with pics and even models. Current fleet is listed in my signature; .having nowhere to go, the only one that's seeing any use is the Motability bus. danthecapriman

Bold are cars I owned from new. Also since getting a job in the motoring press, I haven't really owned cars (not by choice, unrelated life factors now gone) so I had test cars; the Fullback lease ended in 2019 with only 8,000 miles out of a 40,000 mile allowance used and I couldn't afford to keep it. Absolutely awful for my eyesight. C-Class was the same). Excluding short-term test cars, which have been everything from Skoda Scalas to Ford Mustang Steeda ridiculous-power things. R1152
Passed my test in April 1982. First car was the 1974 Renault 16TL, which came via my brother during 1981; his wife found it too heavy to drive so I got it for the princely sum of ÂŁ38.50 and then spent several months prior to passing my test doing it up a bit. Then came the 1982 Renault 18GTL, which unfortunately got written off during some spirited cornering and I and a passenger ended up in a ditch, narrowly missing a tree. This was hurriedly replaced with the 1981 Datsun Sunny Fastback estate. Later rust was becoming an issue and it was rather uncomfortable for my late wife, so that gave way to - A 1989 BMW 520i. This in turn was replaced with a 1994 BMW 525i. When that started to get crunchy round the rear sills and it developed a fault a local garage couldn't fix (so they gave it back to me) it got replaced in 2009 with the current 2004 BMW 530i. Cars owned in parallel were a 1990 Renault 5 Campus which I scrapped (and regret doing so, perhaps the 525i should have gone for scrap instead) and I also have a shed on the drive which is my MoT failure 2001 Ford Ka. Both the Ford and the Renault came via my sister. The Sunny was given away in the end to a member of the Datsun Owners Club; scrap had an almost negative value at the time so I contacted the owners club and someone kindly took up the offer of a free Datsun and took it away. I briefly owned my late father's 1980 Cortina Ghia, which I sold at way over book price and it still exists to this day. Shite Ron
AndyW201
Pretty shit show for 30 years driving, but sod it, I'll play! 1982 Nissan Sunny B11, a bargain trade-in at the Rover dealer I was doing my YTS at. 2 owners, low mileage, near mint. Sadly, I was still taking driving lessons, my sister passed her test before me, so the parents sold it to her from under me. Forgetting the fact I got it at trade price and could have nearly doubled my money if I actually wanted to sell it... 1982 Metro 1.0, bought the day I passed my test in desperation because there was sod all about at my meagre price range. Had MG stripes and interior. They were about the only good bits. Needed floorpan welding and new sill, brakes needed work, front tyres rubbed off so were replaced with a nearly new set of TD rims and tyres from a scrapper. Looked pretty decent by the time I'd finished and was pretty nippy for a 1.0. 1984 Escort 1.1 bASe, was renamed the Popular by then and got decadent cloth seats with a-frame headrests, full length door trims and mono-radio. Was only 8 years old but had already had two wings and a respray, welding near the battery tray and a bit of pudding in one rear arch. And this was one of the German built ones.... The 1.1 rattler hauled the bulk of the Escort shell okay, and it got pimped early '90s style with a set of Stylistick 'graphics' and some Capri Ghia alloys. Went great with the panda car blue paintwork... 1988 Fiesta MK2 1.4 S. I loved this one, the first used car I got that didn't have bits falling off it or rusting. In white/grey with the dÊ rigeur white wheel trims, front driving lights and red bumper trims. With the 1.4 engine, 5 speed box and almost XR2 spec suspension, it felt like a proper little rocket compared to the Escort. After this came a distressing period of new cars, a few models of which though, have grown (or sunk) to become Autoshite favourites. First was, 1994 Rover Metro Rio Grande. Came in a nice shade of metallic blue (Kingfisher?) and came with a good spec for a supermini at the time. I really wanted a GTA though, so it got a set of 5 spoke alloys and green bumper stripes... 1995 Rover 100 Kensington. Nightfire red metallic. Only car I've ever got on the new reg day. Pimped up again with the alloys from the previous Metro, written off when 5 months old when faced with a VW T4 van doing a U turn on a country road just after a bend. I still wince when I watch that crash test video with the nightfire 100. Luckily mine didn't fold up as bad! 1995 Rover 100 Kensington. Replacement car from the insurance, in Caribbean blue. 1974 Escort 1300L, in Daytona yellow. Was a bit different to what I was driving at the time, but it was up for sale for ages, ('more-doors' weren't really sought after back then) and I felt it need saving. Was rock solid with a great shell and loads of panels replaced. Had been upgraded a bit with a 1600 X-flow, sports exhaust and RS 4 spokes. I got the few bits it needed and drove it a few times but had to move it on sadly, as I was doing two jobs at the time and didn't really have the time for it. 1996 Nissan Micra 'sport', in white, a dealer 'limited edition'. Basically a 1.0 Shape base model, with a Nissan body kit (front and rear aprons, side skirts, rear lip spoiler,) and a hideous rear 'tailblazer' between the tail lights. I test drove one and liked it, and was told I could have the 'sport' one at a special price, basically a bit less than a standard Shape one. I bought it, got them to remove the tail blazer, frizbeed the pound shop trims , took off the fake wood trim they'd put on inside, then modified it a bit with a set of lowering springs and a set of 15" DTM alloys. 1998 Nissan Micra 1.3 Si. As nice as the white one was, I did fancy a bit more power. I test drove one of the new facelifted K11s, and promptly ordered a 1.3 Si, the model that replaced the old Super S, and it was another nippy little thing. I also lowered this one with 15" Super Touring alloys, and upset a few more powerful car owners. 1999 Nissan Micra 'Mystique'. A proper limited edition, this one, Nissan built one for each main dealer. Kind of a mini version of the popular Primera GT Chromoflair, the Mystique was a 5 door version of the 1.3 Si and came with colour change paintwork, and everything off the equipment list thrown on. In a predictable pattern, this one got lowered, alloys..... This one turned heads in a big way. 2002 Vauxhall Corsa SXi, I really liked the Corsa C when it came out, it felt like a big leap over the B. I looked over one in a local dealer and was offered a delivery reg SXi with optional Irmscher pack for about 2 grand less than list. It was a nice car, (Not AVAS) and the Irmscher pack gave it a bit more show (Deeper front bumper, rear tailgate spoiler and twin pipe back box), if not more go. That was the last brand new car I would buy. I'd rediscovered a liking for retro cars and fancied something a bit '80s feeling, but something fairly reliable I could daily. A mechanic mate said a Mercedes 190E might fit the bill. So I got one! 1991 Mercedes 190E. Was a lowly 1.8 with 5 speed manual box. Was clean as a whistle, still the best 190 shell I've come across, and had something called a 'sportline package'. This was an expensive option, and was quite an effective factory suspension upgrade. Uprated Sachs shockers, special 22mm lower uprated springs, firmer bushes, thicker anti roll bars and 1" wider rims with 205 tyres gave fantastic handling on the Twisties but the ride was still sublime. This car was rare in also having the four seater sportline interior with bolstered sports seats front and rear, making nearly £3k of options back in 1991. I was over the moon with it, but from the start it had a tiny flat spot that I wanted to fix, so that it was perfect. Could not sort the bastard! Had it on a tuning machine, replaced practically all of the ignition system, new fuel filter, followed by a new Bosch fuel pump, injectors out and tested, still the bastard misfire persisted. Discovering oil in the coolant tank then joining the owners forum, and reading about the common fault of 1.8s corroding the heads and blown head gaskets was the last straw. Dejected I headed to a mate of my brothers' car lot and ended up with, 1999 VW Golf MK4 1.6 SE. This was actually a good car. 6 years old when I got it with 42k on the clock, full VWSH, and was clean as a whistle in and out. I could actually not fault it. But the Mercedes bug had bitten. 1977 Austin Allegro 1300 Super. While I owned the 190 mentioned above, I was surfing eBay one night with a mate after a few Tallisker single malts. The next morning, it transpired that I was the highest bidder on said Allegro and said mate had gone off the idea of it being a joint project. For £225 it was a cracking buy. 50,000 miles and 3 owners from new, an amazingly solid 2 door shell, very tidy interior, stacks of history and a fetching Antique gold and brown exterior/interior combo. With a full years test, it proved to be a cracking little fun car for the money. 1998 Mercedes C200. Another one that was just great as 'an car'. Was an Esprit spec, which was a slightly sported up version of the base Classic, with factory lowering springs and carbon look trim replacing the wood. It was still fairly well specced with air con, leccy windows, a nice dealer fit Blaupunkt head unit and 16" CLK alloys. Being a W202, it had a few small areas of bubbling, so had those sorted. Then a huge household bill came up, and it reluctantly had to be sold, and a cheaper replacement found. Like I said the Merc bug had bitten... 1993 Mercedes 190E 2.0. Another 5 speed manual car. Bought blind on eBay, believing it to be Bornite metallic in the pics. It wasn't. It was a super rare shade of brown called Nutria, which was only available for the last year of production. I went to pick it up and once I got past the colour I realised that for my £700 I had got a real minter with 11 months ticket and a full service history with 15 years worth of bills, the majority from Mercedes. I loved that car and the colour really grew on me. Never went wrong, only really needing general servicing. A broken coil spring lead to a set of used sportline springs from the forum being fitted, with a set of period deep dish alloys. One of the best cars I have ever owned. 1991 Mercedes 190E 2.0 auto. This however came up for sale. In my sought after colour scheme of Bornite, with genuine period Zender boot spoiler, mushroom leather interior and all sorts of options, including an original sought after Blaupunkt Cambridge radio cassette, and this was another with the sportline suspension pack. This came with another massive history file and the first owner's personal reg number, J500 JRS. Not quite as mint as the previous 190s, I had to replace a wing (I was lucky enough to find a mint one in the right colour), and have two jacking points seen to. Was worth it though for the colour and spec. 2001 MG ZR. Was a cheap bit of fun. I had a good offer for the Merc and fancied a ZR as a Winter beater, as the wife had had one brand new. Found one on eBay, with 70,000 miles, history and a brand new head and MLS gasket. Looked smart in Anthracite with optional 17" Straights alloys and electric pack. Thanks to the engine work it was trouble free, and I love how those little cars drive, it was a hoot. 1991 Mercedes 190E 2.6. Yep, back to 190s. The ones I had previously were all four cylinder models. I had read a lot on the owners forum about the 2.6 straight-6 variants and how good they are. I found a likely example on eBay. Signal red, factory 15 hole alloys, black leather interior with front armrest and rear headrest options, genuine Cosworth boot spoiler, 11 months test and £500 starting bid. Which I won it for. However I went to pick it up and it was clear it was a project. Rust on the wings, faded paint, welded jacking points, musty interior. However I noticed the alloys were the 7" sportline/Cosworth items, I popped the bonnet and checked the plate with the option codes; option 650, sportline chassis pack! I couldn't believe it. Though it was sitting higher than usual at the front, so I suspected generic replacement front springs. After starting it and giving it a rev though, I was hooked, what a noise! Over time, I tidied up the bodywork best I could, cleaned and fed the leather, fitted ribbed mats from a C Class, found some genuine sportline front springs from the forum, and it ended up a decent enough car. I even got invited to show it on an MB Club stand at a show... 2003 Vauxhall Astra SXi. Er yes... The 190 got through another test without issues, but by the next one, it was clear it was going to need a bit of work including a small amount of welding, so it was sold to a 190 forum member, and a hunt for a daily driver led me to a decent looking MK4 Astra, locally on Facebook. The SXi was a model I liked with its sport suspension, nice 16" alloys, I-cant-believe-theyre-not-Recaro seats and white dials. It was cheap because it was highish mileage, but with recent cambelt and service. It sounded horrible though. I suspected something wasn't quite right after the belt change as it was very tappy. Was generally a good cheap car though, and did me well. 1993 Mercedes 190E. Surprise surprise. I'd been following this one on the forum and when it came up for sale I didn't hesitate. Mainly because it was another Nutria brown example, one of only a dozen or so that were sold in the UK. By now I was a member on here, and was charmed by the base spec on this one, a complete opposite to my other 190s. 1.8, manual box, manual sunroof, originally manual windows all round (fronts sadly converted to electric), cloth seats, no rear headrests or front armrests, steel wheels with trims. Only nods to luxury were a Blaupunkt Cambridge and electric aerial. Sadly when trying to make a turn out of a junction with bad visibility, I caught the side of a passing car, ripping the n/s front corner off. Over a couple of weekends my brother and me stripped the front corner off, repaired the inner wing rail, straightened the bumper mounts, repaired the bonnet, and replaced the front wing, bumper and headlight with good used items from a mate in the forum, and an indicator I had 'in stock' and I found a cheap set of period 15" AMG monoblock alloys, again through the forum. Bolted back together it looked good again, although the wing and part of the bonnet had to be rattle canned. But it lived again, and is still alive today. 1993 Mercedes 190E 2.6. But this, to me, was the 190 holy grail. 2.6 engine, Bornite paint, mushroom leather, and the sportline chassis option again. This one was a really nice example, despite being a cat D write off for fairly light rear quarter damage. The previous owner bought it from Copart and had it properly repaired. I ran this for a couple of years, however a different automotive itch developed, and after an advert on Pistonheads, a guy came to pick it up to take it home to Northern Ireland. He set off, and the fuel pumps packed up. Sadly he couldn't get it recovered home, so had to fly home empty handed. I was a bit pissed off, so the 190 stood for a while as I searched for some replacement pumps. Being poor, I couldn't afford brand new from the dealer and it took a while for a set of good, warranted pumps for a 2.6/Cosworth to come up. There was also the current daily, a C-Class I had somehow ended up with and some domestic problems I had to deal with at the time meant one car had to go, and fast. A neighbour's father messed about with retro cars and by chance he was visiting, offered cash, and instant pick up, meaning a tidier driveway and a thaw in the domestic situation. Reluctantly, I let the 190 go. Have regretted it ever since, and can't even look at 190s for sale any more. The prices they go for nowadays upset me too much... 1998 Mercedes C200. While running older cars, I always liked to have a back up vehicle, in case one went wrong. I got this off eBay for £495. It was described as in excellent condition, but in truth, it wasn't, though it wasn't the rustiest W202 out there. It had a full MOT, ran and drove. It seemed a decent half a bag's worth. When it needed pressing into service, it need 3 tyres, a bigger battery and a new boot lock. It had an occasional fault with the gear selector whereby it would hesitate to change up from 2nd, but I soon adapted to that and learned how to use the selector to stop it happening. I tidied the worst of the cosmetic rust, luckily the underside was nice and solid, and it served me very well, and has since passed onto a few shiters on here. 2004 Skoda Octavia vRS. Since these were launched, I wanted one. (Sadly it took until 2015 until I had the cash to get one...). Back in the day, the idea of a performance Skoda was the preserve of shit 1980s comedians. But thanks to the VAG parts bin, it became reality. And when the police started ordering them in droves as undercover pursuit cars, you knew they were onto something. After much trawling through the sales sites, I came across this one on eBay, but thankfully just up the road from me in Redcar. The owner was a performance car enthusiast and had done a lot of work to this one. As a result, it drove perfect despite its high-ish miles and in the four years I ran it, it was faultless, only really needing a new cat and front pipe outside of regular maintenance. Sadly it failed it's MOT on a few minor things. I had the use of a modern car at the time so thought I'd work on the Octavia at my leisure, but work, family, lockdown, lack of arse, etc, etc. And I'm just taking steps now, 2 years later to getting it back on the road. And if it's not back on the road by July, I'm a dead man... 2016 Vauxhall Corsa SRi. And sadly, this where it currently ends. After a family member had a bit of a windfall, I was given a bit of money to get a car with. Somehow I ended up with a former Cat S Corsa E but so far, I'm actually pleased with it! 2 years and 17,000 miles down the line, faults have been few. I've had to fork out for 2 services, 2 tyres, a set of brake pads and a coil pack. As said before, Not orl Voxhalls are shit M8! This one appealed as thanks to being a repaired Cat S, it was stonkingly cheap, especially compared to how much an unbent one would cost from a dealer. And being the VX line version of the SRi, it has a very nice spec. As a car to just get me to work and back every day, it just works.  warch

There have been multiples of that in terms of work cars, spares cars, sale cars and hobby cars. The worst were the Cortina and the first Passat. Can't say which I liked best. I really liked the Dolomites, the Princess, the Visa, the second BX and the Xantia. Six-cylinder
