Cars you didn't know existed until very recently.

Possibly, though photos of the other examples might be useful as this one doesn't have the rear screen fuel filler. I do like the proto-Bosuzoku style exhaust though! Also doesn't answer the question about the DVLA record...

This is well worth a look: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abarth

I remember being particularly impressed by the output achieved from the 982cc in the 1000 Zagato, many years ago. Also fairly impressive that Zagato designed a car body that wasn't utterly hideous!

And judging by this they have the performance to go with their looks. Bet they're not cheap.

Also love the Punto Cabrio behind, especially in that colour.

The most elaborate 'stick-on' VW Type 2 'copy' I have seen. This was parked in S. London today. I'm assuming some sort of Japanese import?

A quick internet search suggests that there is a flourishing market for these in Japan with several small coachwork companies doing the conversion. They are usually based on Diahatsu Hijets, Suzuki Carrys or Suburu Sambars. 'Yours' seems to be a Daihatsu version as the drivers window has a straight, horizontal line.

Other varaitons include -

This is easily the best looking one.

On DVLA as a Suzuki Every. No, me neither. wiki suggests passenger van version of Suzuki Carry, and the horizontal handles on the sliding doors suugest it's a 2005 on model.

An electric car. The  Move City car. I cannot find much about them.other than what is given in the makes website.

https://move.al/

The company is based in The Netherlands. looking at dealer locations there is one in the UK too. I expect China is somehow involved.

There are other vehicles in the range.

Jeep looking front end.

I wonder how viable these electric Chinese cars actually are. Don't they need to pass crash tests if they sell in enough volume?

I think a lot of ones like this are small enough / low enough speed to be legally classed as golf buggies and suchlike.

Wasn't the G-wiz legally classed as a quadricycle or something, rather than a car?

Yeah, the Move, like the G_Whiz, will be a quadricycle which basically means 'car shaped death trap, die, die, die' in Chinese. I think the new Citroen Ami is one as well (quadricycle means 'bouf' and is accompanied by a shoulder shrug in French).

There's two types of quadricycle  based on engine size (if applicable), weight and power. 'Light' ones comply to moped regulations (honestly) and 'heavy' ones to motor tricycle regs. Neither regs bother themselves much with crash protection.

Since 2000, in the UK, you need at least a provisonal car licence to drive one (previous to this a motorbike licence would do - same rules as a Reliant).

No they do not have to have a crash test which is the same as a larger vehicle. https://www.euroncap.com/en/vehicle-safety/quadricycle-ratings-explained/

Might as well go straight to a mobility scooter.

That is basically what a Quadricycle is sold as in Europe.  You do not need a license to drive one. You have to be over 16 to drive one. They are limited on top speed. They cannot be used on certain roads. They may be driven in the same areas as mopeds which can sometimes share cycle lanes too. Laws in countries do vary a little.

Those Eagles are great-looking cars I reckon, and must have been pretty much the only 'good' American car on sale in 1988, purely because it wasn't American. I think they were pretty well received at the time. The very fact that AMC, last of the independents, was still just about clinging on that late is something to be celebrated. It consistently built the most interesting cars in America for much of its lifespan. I actually signed up to a few AMC groups on Facebook recently in the hope of spotting a cheap '71 Ambo sedan for sale, though fuck knows what I'd do if I found one.

Keeping to the Renault theme.

Bottom pic is the AMC Eagle - an Americanised Renault 25.

Some Premier prototypes actually got Renault badging, but by the time it went on sale, Renault had already sold everything off to Chrysler

But the story doesn't end here. The AMC team was ingenious enough that they went to shine doing the future Chrysler cars, and as a result, the LH Platform has some Renault DNA in it

(BTW, the Eagle range also had the Medallion, that actually got sold with Renault badging for a while
