That looks like something Clarkson  would cobble together for a Top Gear challenge. Got to love the brutal honesty of the linked review:

Laikipia BJ-50 is similar to the vehicle of the end of the 19th century. The design is terrible also.

My neighbour told me yesterday that he used to have a Tudor Van. I hadn't heard of them before.

Tudors were made in Romania by the state owned ROCAR concern. They were imported into the UK in the mid to late 70's/early 80's and sold alongside the ARO 4x4 models (better known as the Dacia Duster).  Images of the UK sales brochure below. I suspect they didn't sell many.

Did we get the VW Type notchback over here? Lad put one online today and I can honestly say I can't remember ever seeing one.

Or do I see them all the time and my age and lifestyle are catching up with me?

I had one - DNP412B and I scrapped the poor thing. I also had a  Fastback, definitely a much more popular model than the saloon, although the estate probably outsold all of the other type 3 models together.

I would love one of these type 3 Karmann Ghia. This one was up for about 6k ten years ago and just about perfect. I had the money - why didn't I? It would sell at double that today.

There's one in a yard near my house that might be in your price range ;)

I was lucky enough to encounter this very car back in 2015 when I had just won an auction for a Ginetta G26. The guy had a yard under the gatwick flightpath, and parked in amongst a load of other tat was this Gold Owen Sedanca, it was rusty and had a Auto Box, but the design looked epic, shame about the lack of sales, though it has been restored now

Hurtan, made in Andalusia, Spain.

Several models made.

The Grand Albaycín is a copy of a British car. A mix of Jag and Morgan.

The Author, which for me has elements of a Fiat 500 Gamine, but ugly chunky.

The Vintage. A people carrier version of a Asquith Shire?

Lastly there is Route 44. Aimed at the food truck market. Look at the panel gap. 😁

The Spanish Mitsuoka?

Yes - one in as-new condition, unregistered since new, Suffolk IIRC, and another in the Highlands in dire nick. Another minibus recently died a death.

They were actually imported (like the AROs) in two goes - one in around 1975 and the other from 1979 till around 1981. Not popular!

Interestingly* the UAZ was being imported at roughly the same time, known as the Trekmaster.

That's Fascinating thanks, amazing what ended up in the UK, ought to have a thread for quirky UK market vehicles no one knows about

I wouldn't quite say "Highlands", its 5 miles south of @Saabnut.

Some of it might still be there, that photo is about 10 years old.

Let me know the location and I will see if it is still there and current condition

A few years back (2013 I think) LaquerPeel posted the photo above and simply described the location as "Aberdeenshire", I asked whereabouts but he couldn't/wouldn't tell me.

I had a rake around the flat bits of Aberdeenshire on google street view but didn't find it.

About six months later I drove past it but didn't stop as it was chucking it down.

The google street view image dates from October 2008 and the truck was in relatively better condition, there's no hole on the scuttle under the driver's windscreen.

1508911163_Screenshot2021-03-25at00_40_19.thumb.png.a1ef8e96768bf557fb4ba3a1e76dec7a.png

The big sheds to the left are actually the former fire station for Fordoun Airfield (WW2 vintage but no flight use since 1995), note the stone built ramp for truck maintenance.

Fast forward to this evening and google maps now shows two pins with businesses at the same location.

McLachlan Marine has this drone shot on their website.

mm-main-office_orig.thumb.jpg.d23afb0add6e266eb6364ca7f568e43d.jpg

The buildings are the same, there's now a wall next to the road but the truck ramps still remain.

The orange van is in the layby and you can see the distinctive iron gate (two van lengths in front) where the Tudor truck was.

The other business is the Grampian Trailer Centre who have this photo on their website.

dji-0304_orig.thumb.jpg.e676c72aa6f8df629ebf373a177f7176.jpg

They now seem to occupy the whole site (not sure where McLachanlan Marine have gone), the black gate sitting against the wall is roughly where the truck ramp was and the distinctive iron gate where the Tudor was is visible in the background.

Sorry @Saabnut, but I reckon its gone.

Aaah, I know the location. The owner at the time was Peter Thornton who had a recovery business. The site also had a Humber "Pig" and a Scamell 6x6. When Peter retired the site was cleared so it went about 6 or 8 years ago, maybe longer.

Now that is interesting and something I didn't know until very recently (about 5mins ago). A quick image search throws up several pictures of UK registered, RHD 'bukhanka'. The tipper bodied version was called the 'Tipmaster'.

"Low fuel consumption of 9 k.p.g."

I guess it probably was good for such a thing at the time!

Now that is naughty and would get your wrists slapped at Uni, you are not allowed to mix units like that. Assuming it's imperial gallons (and we can't even trust them for that), that's 5.6mpg. You can see why they used km's it looks further! Legal, decent, honest and truthful (my arse).

I've just done some reading and they use other odd units that I've never thought about before. Torque was quoted in kg metres

Well they've got some of the correct units there. As we all know torque is measured in newton metres (Nm) which can also be expressed as     kg⋅m2⋅s−2 . But  I suspect in reality they are getting confused with the yankee description of torque as being 'pound foot' and then just substituting the imperial words with metric ones.

That was the conclusion I came to too

I wonder if any UK Belaz/Kraz trucks still survive, I saw a photo of one rotting in a field in the 90s and that's been it. Dream Truckshite.

Looks OK without all that stuff on it, don't want one though.

Why are most of these homebrew kit car types rank looking, and designed by people without any obvious skill in it?
