Cars you didn't know existed until very recently.

More JDM weirdness I spotted today. Thought it was a Nissan Cube at first but no, it's a Toyota Blackbox.based on a Yaris.

We had these in America, where it was known as the Scion xB.

Scion was conceived as Toyota's "youth" brand, intended to appeal to young, trendy, fashionable types.  Except Toyota soon discovered young people don't have any money for cars, so most xBs got bought by greying empty-nesters looking for a practical shopping trolley.  The tall, upright body made entry and egress easy for OAPs with aching joints and bad backs.  As to why Toyota thought young people would somehow be interested in a car that looked like the box it was shipped in is anybody's guess.

This failed marketing strategy is why Toyota USA eventually killed off the whole Scion brand.

Same thing happened over here with the Ford Fusion (the Fiesta on stilts, not the Yankee Mundano)

Alfa 33 Sportwagon, maybe a 4x4.

Not a 4x4. They were only 1500cc over here. That's a 1700 8v, just like the one I used to have.

Would have another in a heartbeat.

In fact, I've still got some original Alfa headlight covers in the workshop for it if anyone needs them. Or better still, does anyone know who owns that 33 & I'll make them an offer?

Probably not!   However, two claimants to the most car marque badges featured on a single vehicle must be my old Simca van which was badged Dodge on the rear door, Talbot on the bonnet and Simca on every other sticker, label and tag elsewhere on the vehicle.    The other is another Talbot - the Sunbeam Lotus!

Holden Scurry? Never new they sold those vans in Oz, let alone as a Holden! One for further research

You're possibly under 35?

I wish!

That one was in the old Keymarket car park in Bury St Edmunds.

Nissan Tiida

Saw one in Dublin today on the way to the airport

attachicon.giftiida.JPG

Apparently they were sold in Ireland but not in mainland UK. A dealership in the Glasgow (I think) area shipped a heap of them over, so you see a few scuttling about on Scottish reg numbers.

Apparently they're also really, really grim. Perfect autoshite material, really!

I also have no idea where I gleaned that information from. Probably a thread on here.

Yip, Arnold Shark pre-reg'd a load and were knocking them out pretty cheap for a newish car at their Nssan branches when they still had the Nissan franchise, apparently Nissan werent too chuffed as folk going in to buy new Nissan Notes and so on were seeing these much cheaper and buying them thus harming new Nissan sales.

Quite a few were bought by taxi drivers. Personally i think the hatch ones, particularly from the rear look like someones taken a Peugeot 307 and squared off all the curves.
