Daihatsu Charade 1987-93

I've worked myself up to a point where I just have to have another. Much less ubiquitous than the last time I looked for one, there are hardly any for sale!

Here is number one, Daihatsu Charade Turbo "5dr petrol turbo"

I was still in school when I got that, swapped a Volvo 240 Estate for it then bragged about my Turbo a lot :)

Wasn't very fast. Single cam 993cc 3 pot, unlike the twin cam GTti rocket pocket.

This was number 2 a Charade CX Automatic 1.3. It was giffer owned and very low miles and I completely ruined it, with help from friends, one hit Spar with it mistaking one pedal for the other, and another friend hit a huge concrete block in a field. And that was the end of it. Have a lot of happy memories of this car, as it was one of the first I ever drove legally after passing my test.

The mother of a friend at school had such a Charade, a red three-door with 4WD. Typical Austria-Edition. I had the "pleasure" to be driven home in it from school (~ 12km) twice or three times a week. All I remember is, it was horribly loud inside. Very loud engine, the stones chipping in the wheelarches were very loud during wintertime, somehow it was just a tincan with an engine.

But it drove everywhere, no matter how bad the snow and ice was.

In 2006 I had a dilemma on my hands. Working for IBM at the time and in top form financially I was trying to figure out which to buy:

I opted for Charade number 4, a GTti. Bought unseen in eBay auction. Had it trailered up from Birmingham as it was a non runner. While parked up at mates abattoir his brother put the window through, and took it to his scrapyard. I towwed it back, hoovered it out and quickly sold it. Never got it going but the lad I sold it to did, in a few hours.

Pissed me right off that did.

Saldy no love for the 4th generation or G200, or Id have the black GTI from Gumtree already!

So I'm in the market for one, current budget £200 but by Christmas I should have about £800. I doubt I'll spend that much but this one could do with being as good as I can find for the right price. Normally I just buy any old shite and don't think much of the months of work to get an MOT. But this Charade will be a keeper. Colour is unimportant, as is engine, as is trim level, although I don't really want the top spec GXI. It had color coded bumpers, I want black. And I want the CX seats........ Giffermatic would be as desirable as manual, I do t have much experience with a manual Charade. Maybe three Charades would be best!

How could anyone possibly get excited about a flippin Daihatsu Charade!! Hehe

Final thoughts, I don't own a Japanese car. I don't own a Turbo (Cossie doesn't count as its engineless) I don't own a Charade and I don't own a diesel. So how many boxes would a Charade DT tick.

I could right now but its 300 miles away.

I'm trying to formulate a plot.

1. He says it needs a fuel pump and petrol pipes. So I couldn't drive it back without going armed with those. Pump £40 ebay. Lines few quid.

2. Will that be all it needs to get it going.

3. Train £100 to Redruth, National Express £60.

4. Fuel home £40.

5. Would need booking in for MOT.

6. Ã‚£36 day insurance for Charade

Other potential option A frame or trailer with Polonez.

1. £120 fuel round trip

2. £79 TAX for Polonez

£. £36 Day insurance for Polonez

4. £36 day insurance for Charade (if on A Frame).

I think I literally have £200 free so whatever way I look at it, I cant do this within the given time frame.

WHY DID I PAY MY FUCKING BILLS YESTERDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
