martc
The Magpie and Stump, Old Bailey, 1948. Police Wolesely outside. The Magpie and Stump Pub has been in existence on the same site for over 300 years. Across the road stood Newgate Prison, which remained in use for over 700 years, from 1188 to 1902. When public executions moved from Tyburn to the street outside Newgate Prison in 1783 crowds thronged to watch. The orginal pub survived the blitz and was pulled down in 1983 to be replaced by this - No comment.
