JeeExEll
Gorgeous Ascona i400s. Bosch-injected 2.4 litre with 16 valve heads by Cosworth, lsd, suitable suspension, etc. Quite exotic for 1981. Homologation production cars to enable huge tuning potential for rallying and racing. I'd have one of these before a Manta. Cars had a much shorter life then - 8-10 years or 100,000 miles max was the life of a car. My dad who had a company car, had a new car every year in the 1960's to keep them reliable. hennabm and JeeExEll

lesapandre
That would make sense. You rarely see a mix like that in pictures. Great pic. Amazing to see what went there - a Wolseley 4/44 is not a car you expect to see exported much - but I am sure a few were. An early post-war Loewy Studebaker to the right at the rear too. Vietnam a French colony at that point so the Vedette and Citroen makes sense - though note the 'British' style number plates. RayMK
JeeExEll
Canley, Coventry (Triumph), 1981. And someone's parked a Viva in the car park. May be a Golf in there too, by the front door. SD1s were popular. Amishtat, lesapandre and RayMK
lesapandre
Interesting point raised by the silhouette of the Golf. Marked the end of the lower-lower longer-longer era of cars. Outline of the Golf taller than an SD1 or Princess by a bit of a margin. Like the later Uno - Golf was taller/shorter than some comparable cars to increase interior space. Not universal of course because VW also did the Scriocco. But the car of the future in the 60's was mostly seen as lean and low - not today's tall steroided boxes people now drive. adw1977

lesapandre
On the A21 into London. In the photo you can just see the end of Catford Bus Garage to the extreme right which is also 30's or 40's I guess. Bet it was demolished to extend the bus standing. Thanks!! Lewisham does not have a great record they demolished their beautiful Victorian town hall in 1968.
