It was so much better when cars all looked different..

I'm thinking that might be Brands Hatch.

Yep, that's the Brabham Straight (Start line).

Ex London Transport Trolley bus working A Coruña. Loads of SEATs and one Mini. They were made in Spain at one time. The same with the look a like BMC van. It is a SAVA J4. The SP plates on the cars signify they are taxis.

SP plates are found on more than just taxis.

was writing about this photo.

So for a  clarification, SP means servicio publico (public service) and they are used on vehicles with drivers.

This Post office has one too.

OT, but Britain and Ireland also exported a small amount of pensioned-off railway equipment to Spain in the late 1950s (I think; CIE definitely did), generally for the Spaniards to scrap as they didn't use the same track gauges.

There also are ex London Transport Underground carriages in use on the railway on Alderney.

Original they were the 1938 descendants of the 1935 experimental streamlined Tube train.

But they rotted and had to be scrapped and replaced with 1959 Tube trains.

The rebuilt Tube trains on the Isle of Wright also descendants of the streamliner.

B&W Picture of the streamliner to get back on topic.

The prototype 1935 streamline stock would have been awesome if it had gone into full production. The '38 stock was a development of the flat front 1935 prototype stock. I know one difference was the '35 had square destination lights.

I have read about the reasoning behind this. It was either Franco, the dictator, wanted to keep his country isolated from the rest of Europe or he was a fan of I.K. Brunel :-D

On the subject of Spanish railways I have just got back from a visit to Canfranc station high in the Pyrenees. Unfortunately sections of the line on the French side have been removed to make way for road improvements so it is unlikely to ever fulfill the original idea. But it is a magnificent and huge building which has been re-roofed and might become a hotel when the interior is restored.
