So many properties in France were built straight onto the road making them undesirable today to people who don't like 40 ton lorries thundering by 1 metre from their windows.

greatest_road_tests_ever_ford_2000_gt_interior.thumb.jpg.f99482320ea63dc605e564f888d5924e.jpg

Very early 2000GT road-test in 1969 by Autocar.  No rostyles, just plain steelies and hubcaps.

You had to order a 2000 GT XLR for rostyles.

Corsair 2000 GT V4 engine with the lovely 2000E gearbox.  A car of it's time.

No touch-screen sat-nav.  Cruise-control was your foot, and cup-holder (milk bottle or Coke-tin holder) was between your legs.

My mum had a 1970 H-reg 1600L from 1982 till 1990.  With non-inertia-reel static seat belts which were meant to be hung up on a little clip but just got left on the floor.

My dad's pal had a Sapphire blue J-reg 1971 3000E from 1973 till around 77.  With blue vinyl interior.  Fire up the  T-Rex tape.

The car is way to low. look at the head of the driver v the top of the windscreen. It is some sort of large sports car.

I thought that too, but I can't find any more likely candidate than the Westie. The relative sizes of the two lamps is a powerful arguement, as the lower one is smaller, like the indicator/sidelamp. Over-rider and chrome strip fits, as does the height of the strip relative to the wheel arch and wingtop. I think it's got to just be the incline of the road that makes it look lower.

I'd be happy to live there! French properties like this often have  a delightfully "down at heel" appearance from the outside (something to do with French property taxation rules, I think...) but are superbly spacious. Property prices in many parts of France are a fraction of those in north London! And I'm partly French and speak it well.....

How fab must this have been in 1966?  Wow.  And the burbly Chrysler 6.3 V8 twin-pipe soundtrack.

I remember seeing and hearing one on Union Street, Aberdeen mid 70s when I was about 8 and it was a WTF moment.

Many of my school drawings and watercolours in the late 70s had an Interceptor in there, even in drawings of flowers or included in drawings from  a 2-week school trip to Iona (a tiny island on which I think the only vehicle apart from tractors appeared to be a Mk1 Escort van) and ancient Iona Abbey, (much to the annoyance of my teachers).

I was quite good at drawing Interceptors.  They weren't very difficult to do.

Mr Wardell, who ran 'Wardell's', a haberdashery shop, in Cottingham had one of these, in maroon, when I was a wee lad. I saw it daily and, even though I realised it was a bit special even as a youngster, it became just another car due to its constant presence in my life. No idea how a haberdasher in an East Yorkshire village could afford one.

I found this image on a local transport group and it caught my eye as it just down the road from me in Church Street Hoo.

It's 1963 and a motorbike and sidecar has just crashed through the front window of the shop on the left and  the shop owner is seen standing talking to the bus driver.

Fast forward nearly fifty years and the two shops on the left have recently been converted to houses and opposite out of shot is a brilliant coffee shop/bar that I often frequent.

And i used to ride on that same bus when Maidstone and District Bus Company had the contract to run us Oiks from the nearby villages to the Comprehensive School at Hoo in the early eighties although by then it had been painted a pale green and cream colour.

I also caught the 19A home from school but not going as far as Hoo. As far as I remember , there were no school contracted buses in Medway, you got a free season ticket for the normal service bus.
I think route 19A started at Gillingham depot and went through all the Medway towns en route. There was also a 19 that only went as far as Hoo village and a 19B that went to Lodge Hill barracks.

The Hundred of Hoo school had kids attend from from nearby Cliffe,Cooling,Alhallows,Stoke and isle of Grain and they were all carried in on  M+D buses in the 80's

I had a green bus pass for the number 8 bus from Cliffe.

ASD coaches cover the contract now days.

After your comment I looked up similar looking cars (with twin vertical headlamps. I thought it might be a Facel Vega. However, they do not have chrome strips. Plus the overriders on this car are not the same either.

It is absolutely an A99 Westminster.

London post the expansion of the ULEZ. Classic vehicles are exempt.🤣

From my encyclopaedic knowledge of the North Circular Road I think this might be the east-bound (clock-wise) A406 near Brent Park (home of IKEA) although comparison with GoogleMaps is inconclusive. The McDonalds next door to IKEA was clearly a pub some time ago & I wonder if the fencing on the right borders it. The houses in the background appear to have been demolished to build flats further back from the road at some point.

Of course, I could be completely wrong........

Yes I thought so too...somewhere up near Wembley.

If you are interested in the ecology of N. London this is a great read about the A40. When Metroland was built the most desirable houses were ON the main arteries.

Forget the Stelvio Pass - one of the great motoring experiences is the Circular on a weekend evening going east  in the summer just as the lights are coming on in London and all the Mercedes are doing 80 on the overpasses and between the lights... you need to be driving a big Mercedes too mind for the Metroland Grand Prix. 😂
