Dyslexic Viking
I have posted this picture here before but will post it again as this is one of my favorites. This is typical Norway in the 50's and 60s people had little and managed with the little they had and were happy and almost never complained in great contrast to now. Can also add that the truck has attachments to a snow plow which was hard on the trucks. As the trucks in the 30's had little engine power it was a struggle to get the roads plowed and the drivers often had to back up and speed up to get through the worst snow drifts. It was also hard on the drivers as the trucks did not have a heater which is tough in minus 30. somewhatfoolish

The Dutch do on the 5th May every year. The 4th May is Remembrance day (Dodenherdenking) Plus they have Lichtjesroute (Light Route) in the city of Eindhoven to commemorate the liberation of that city and which was part of Operation Market Garden. Yes, we have and it is May 8, the day the Germans surrendered. But we have no more. It is interesting that the Dutch have several days and events where they commemorate the end of the war. But is it also the case there that most people just ignore these days?

Pre Covid certainly not. Being British and brought up with Remembrance day on 11th November I was stuck at just how the Dutch had all ages involved. From the veterans of the Allied armies right down to young school children. I was very moved when I first saw this. Dyslexic Viking
