Not black and white but whatever. At the NEC about three or four years ago

If BMW were the German equivalent of Triumph (sporty aspirational saloons at a price premium) and wanted a hatch of their usual big  saloon output you get this...20191003_104838.jpg.a9ef8007b38fde575f2263f36fa3c03f.jpg

Same idea...same segment...probably similar buyers a few generations apart. The British motor industry created so many great ideas at the time which have come back round again...

Michelotti designed for both companies and the last Triumph Dolomite prototype has a distinctly 70's BMW look too. Instead we got the Acclaim. Such is life...

Roy Fedden had another go at cars after he left Bristol Aeroplane Co.. Not a success!

Also a radial engine, in the back this time.

Anyway, with all this Abbey Road / Beatles nostalgia about. image.jpeg.60aa42f3038a390efa2ce91d7269f7ef.jpeg

Taken the same day as the album cover. Which has a white Beetle behind the Beatles, where the Alfa is.

It's the not-very-plain 1956 Plymouth Plainsman concept by Ghia.

Why do modern 8-seaters not look like this?

(Sadly) that's not some sort of secret retractable rear axle, it's a spare wheel. A feature which was included on some 1957 Plymouth station wagons.
