Micrashed
Just setting off to Appleby in Westmorland... More laters chaps___________________________________________________________________________________________ EDIT:Since starting this thread of the collection and resto of Ellie-Mae for some reason many of the "dirty" links I used for the photos have gone bad - I use Facebook a lot for quick uploads off my phone. So here are most if not all of the photos in more or less chronological order in this Flickr Album: https://www.flickr.com/photos/micrashed/albums/72157644354579484 Given that the resto of Nina took 8 years from start to MOT dont expect this one to be a lot quicker - both Bob and I have full time jobs and family. Micrashed
OooooohKay So very late last night I gets a telephone call from my friend Bob, who some of you may recall purchased this 8 a few years ago...And now it looks like this....The reason for the love affair with the 8 was it was his very first car. Roll forward a little while and a couple of months ago he proffers a beige log book under my nose with his name an address on it from 1955 for another Morris, this time its a Ten-Four saloon. Which he has discoverd sitting in a barn in darkest Cumbria.Foolishly I said when you need a lift shifting it, give me a shout.... And he did. So this morning we set off, Bob with a borrowed van and trailer and met up at Forton Services on the M6 northbound.Where I obtained sustenance in the form of an M&S beef and onion sandwich and some cookies which my lad helped me consume...After what seemed like an eternity sat behind an LDV flat bed and trailer , through the 40mph roadworks, eventually we came to the county of Westmorland, or as i like to call it Gods own county. It has long been an aim of mine to bugger off up here and retire. Im down to about 10 years and counting to achieve that goal. It really is lovely up here even on an overcast day like today. We did however enrage the locals with the rather slow convoy of Micrashed and LDV... Finally however we reached our destination in the village of Arse End, in the locality of Nowhere....This weeks CP&T challenge.. Micrashed
Can you tell what it is yet? So here we have not one but two Ten Fours, in a bit of a state - Ellie Mae is Bobs car, the other is a spares car.Ellie-Mae has a good chassis and amazingly the engine turns over... The body work however is shot. Anyway, after standing round, drinking tea and admiring the cars, we had to load them up onto the trailer and the flat bed. The spares car which has a knackered chassis but a good(!) body went on the flatbed first. With NO winch to help us we relied on brute force and a bit of gravity to help (sadly I have no photos of this actual bit as I was trying to stop a 10-4 with no brakes or steering running off down a hill. The only casualty was one of the 50 year old tyres which let go when it caught the side of the metal ramp. We hitched the trailer up and repeated the exercise again but this time with the car with engine, gearbox, all its body, and rammed full of spares. In order to help us down the hill with it ( no brakes) the seller rather kindly hitched it up to his own Ten-Four with a chain and used that as a brake... Micrashed
Once loaded we had time to have a chat, more tea and explore some of the other beauties he had.... Like this Transit (one for Fred) There was rather a lot of other stuff too, which I cant really show as it wasnt a museum. Shame really as it was far better than any museum I have been to for a while. However here are some petrol pumps and an old AA patrol box... So after a quick bog break it was time to hit the road again back to Bobs workshop... Down some lovely country roads again...But all to soon back to teh M6 Before too long, back home and time to unload... Ellie Mae in the workshop with Nina Spares car relegated to outside Ellie Mae's KWOLITY repairs Proper Temp Gauge Teh Endz Junkman, Vince70, Squire_Dawson and 15 others

AnthonyG
What a wonderful day out. I love the green 10-4 tourer, if pre-war Oxford had any gangsters they would have been tooling around in one of those, extorting protection money from all night cafes on the A40. Ratdat
Now THAT is an Autoshite day out! Excellent! I concur wholeheartedly. Pre war stuff holds a certain fascination for me now that it never used to when I was young. I'm going to have to get me some decrepit old heap at some point. The more miserable and austere the better. Micrashed and Angrydicky
