DodgyBastard
I'm in the process of de-twatting my volvo 340, This is what it looked like when I bought it, Stripped out interior which included removal of absolutely everything apart from the front seats and door cards, they removed the centre console, carpets, head lining and even the fucking sunvisors for weight saving... It was lowered with lowering blocks on the rear and lowering springs on the front, the diff had been welded badly so could've broken at any time.and just look at those horrid alloys! Both rear doors were badly dented probably from some failed drifting attempts... When I went to get the car which was in Sunderland I brought some spare wheels just so I wouldn't have to look at those disgusting wheels ever again. When I got it home it got destickered and matching wheels. It still had the welded diff and lowered suspension so I decided to book it in at my local track to see if it was worth trying to drift it... Even though it was wet the car was still too slow to get the back end out properly and was pretty shit at drifting... After that I decided I wanted to run it as a daily driver and replace the Renault 18 with it... The 18 went back to it's previous owner "Nisfan" who is doing a grand job of De-twatting my handiwork and it now looks like this! Phwoar!!! Back to the 340..In order to turn the car into a daily driver I needed some parts, luckily "Derskine" had this rusty shitter that I got quite a few bits from. I got an open diff, standard front springs, rear shocks, doors, full interior including centre console, sun visors and parcel shelf. ed5000, morris_ital_lover, mat_the_cat and 23 others
mercrocker
Good work, another one saved! At least they left the number plates alone.... eddyramrod
DodgyBastard
After fitting the interior and the doors I took it to my local garage who removed the lowering blocks, fitted standard front springs and fitted the open differential. He let me have a look under the car and commented on how solid and rot free it is, the only crusty bit is on the front valance...It now drives quite well and doesn't skip like fuck when turning slowly which is great and I can get over speed bumps without having to slow down to 3mph... Next on the list is to paint it all the same colour, I'm thinking about 1980's rally spec or just plain gloss black... eddyramrod

theorganist
Great story it's good to know that a lot of the mods are reversible. Excellent work there. Next....can someone r*pe a 1.3 A series engined Mini and put the engine in an engineless Metro or Allegro next, and then put the pictures up on any mini enthusiast forums (and on here of course)! robinmasters, Vince70 and Lord Sterling

DodgyBastard
I really like the beige metallic colour, If I can find a decent match for the doors I'd rather just paint them than paint the whole car. Here's a couple of photos taken today... And here's my latest purchase! sutty2006, Twiggy, catsinthewelder and 2 others

cms206
I'd just leave the 340 the way it is. Volvos look better with mismatched panels. DodgyBastard, catsinthewelder, Vin and 2 others
DodgyBastard
What was that? More Carlton? OK! I've just bought it today for £250, it's an English car so very little rot, 2.0 cd manual, electric everything. it's on 118k miles has 5 months tax 2 months mot and came with over half a tank of petrol. Drove it back from Kinross today and it drove brilliantly, smooth, torquey and cruised along very nicely. sutty2006, Shep Shepherd, derskine and 1 other

Des
That's heroic, and the ability to see the potential in that abuse victim is worthy of note, here I am whining like a bitch over routine repairs of something well maintained, this level of dewankerisation gives me perspective.Have to admit I've done similar modding in my youth, stickers and all that, gave my pencil case and satchel the treatment yo, grew out of that 'scene' by about 8 years old mind. laser wheels and Lord Sterling

rml2345
Excellent stuff! That Carlton looks a canny purchase and must score extra points for being a large Autoshite estate in Scotland not made by Volvo. Or full of deer.Rescuing that 340 from terminal ruination is also commendable.Beige is for winners. cms206 and theorganist

mat_the_cat
It's a vague memory, but that plate on the Carlton rings a bell. It didn't spend some time near Bewdley/Kidderminster did it?
DodgyBastard
The Carlton came from Oxford, the previous owner won it on ebay for £317 and brought it up to Scotland a month ago.
Station
First time I've heard English and rot free in the same sentence. That Carlton is lush!!! Vauxhall used to make tidy cars!!
mat_the_cat
All I can remember is it was L... HRX, same colour and spec. Higher mileage than that 10 years ago, so unlikely to be the same car...probably several on similar plates.
