I've been nursing a slight tumescence over this beauty for much of the day.

It's pretty cool but I'd rather have a Mk1 in that sort of stagnant pond water green colour.

Aye, it's also fairly strong money, though not entirely unreasonable, for a Mk.3 with damage. As with most old cars with pieces of crappy trim stuck on, they like to rot underneath the stone guards and sill covers. Otherwise the sills are generally solid and don't give trouble on early cars without these covers.

Believe it or not the Allegro was very well-rustproofed at the factory, and the steel is quite thick and of good quality.

I can believe it. The Allegro seems to last better than just about anything of that era. There's an Allegro estate in my road that's been parked outside, on a driveway for 15 years to my knowledge, and there's no rust anywhere on it. Amazing.

We've had this before - 2 small dents in the front, and the wrong wheeltrims too. Nowt special.

The entry-level 'L' trim spec had the familiar old steel wheels plus chrome hubcaps, the more expensive versions had the plastic wheeltrims.

I had one very like that back in 1988 - when it was just a "secondhand" car rather than a classic.  I paid about £250 for it from the local ARG dealer (it was an unwanted trade in) - cheap for a 6 year old car.

There's a 12K mile one in Malta, a 36K km one in Italy that looks very nice and a 37K mile one in the UK.  Allegro time clearly.  They weren't bad cars in my opinion.

Wow, what a bunch of fusspots!  I thought I'd wandered into Pistonheeds by mistake.

No amount of brown can make up for it being an Allegro 3.

How could those baggy cloth seats ever be acceptable when you know this sort of thing exists:

I actually prefer the S3 Allegro. I'd love one in some horrible shade, with the A-Series motor. The seats are super-plush and the black trim takes the edge of the ridiculous styling. Then again, I'm someone who thinks the Maxi 2 was the best version. Perhaps I just don't like chrome.

A friend of mine has just bought this Allegro for a bit of a laugh over summer, The plan is to come to our car meets over the course of the year in it to save using his Ford Prefect hot rod every time, I'm looking forwards to seeing it.

Looks like value Trigger. Get him to test its abilities with a cross-country trek to Shitefest! Though warn him that the organiser may want to steal his car.

I love old BL crap but I am just not feeling it with Allegros. I think it must be the driving position. The styling, although rubbish, is not something that usually I’m bothered about with cars, in fact I tend to like rubbish styling. The engines are pretty good and you get the 5-speed box (obv I’m discounting the A-series ones) so theyre amazingly usable in traffic so that’s not a problem either. The suspension is good and the handling is quite decent. Theyre not even that appalling for rust IMO. That only really leaves the driving position which is quite upright and toilet-like (admittedly I don’t tend to be holding a steering wheel when I’m on the Frank Zappa so its not exactly like a toilet) so I reckon that’s my main objection to them, which all things considered seems a little unfair but at the end of the day life isn’t always fair is it?

I would opt for a Princess (stupid) or an Acclaim (wise) above an Allegro, but I do sort of like them a bit.  Many Allegros were evidently cherished by agreeable old giffers and have survived remarkably well.  I recall an old geez near me who had one, owned from new, that was so spankingly spiffy that it seemed to have a forcefield to keep off rain, muck and age.

Glad it's not just me. I prefer the looks of the later Marinas as well

Marina Coupe on sale for about 8K at present - yikes!

I like all Marinas, but that is because of my dear departed uncle Mike, who was a tool maker at Jaguar and senior union dude, and had a new Marina every year in which to carry his golf clubs or drive to his bespoke tailor  (I got two of his ace handmade suits to wear when I was starting in work) . Working class life in the 1970s.
