I think my only problem is that smellycheese seems to think that someone's success is best rewarded by kicking their head in. Also, there are many punctuation issues and suitable threads for 'ranty' posts already exist.

To mr. D. Wobbler

I'd like to apologise as it seems I've upset you. The suggestion of kicking the dudes head in was not meant to be taken serious, I should have worded it better but in my defense I'd had a few pints of 'do as you're told' and didn't really mean it. A bit like when we see a really shit body kitted Saxo and suggest it should be set on fire, we're not really gonna turn into arsonists are we? I also have a general dislike for car traders which doesn't help things. Fair play to the guy I suppose he must make a good living and if people are prepared to pay his prices then why not. what I was after was some info on the guy which I've got so thanks for all the replys.

I'd also like to apologise for my appalling punctuation which seems to have bothered you and I will take myself straight to detention after class.

Yours sinseerly

Cheese

I went to KGF about 2 years ago for work, and played with a MK1 Cav and the ultimate shitemobile (Beige Talbot Solara Minx). Neither was perfect but both were very well presented and faults were pointed out to me. Both drive well, and the whole experience would be very reassuring to a buyer. So he makes a few quid at it? So what? He's found a niche and knows how to make the most of it. Add that he's a genuinely nice bloke and he's got my full blessing!

Hi, I've often traded cars, so feel free to come and kick my head in.

That's true, and he's a right cowboy. I once bought a Pug 205 from him, on the strength of some photos on this very forum which showed it parked in various Parisian locations. Imagine the crushing disappointment I experienced after travelling to Wakefield, only to find that the Eiffel tower was nowhere to be seen, and despite driving around the area for over half an hour, I couldn't locate one single boulangerie. He seemed to think that a hot mug of tea and the chance to perv over a mint Chrysler 180 would somehow make up for his devious chicanery, the blackguard.

KGF would'nt touch my 504 with a barge pole, but if they did they'd spend the next week vacuuming up flakes of rust from their white room

I often go on thier ads just to see the studio photography. When you read the descriptions they do often point out defects, even if the studio type shots dont show everything

I tried to buy a P10 Primera off that Hirst character, he dodged the question and kept pointing at a bloke walking around the show ground with a book about knives.

Then the Uncle Sam glassfibre ice cream raped my mind and someone used 'mosher's' to finish off a sentence.
Wakefield is a very special place.

Fair point but to be truthful Mk 1 and 2 Escorts were only working man's cars because you were forever working on the bloody things!

I had a mk2 1.6 and it was a constant battle to keep it running, put me off Ford's for a long long time

I found the same thing. basic tin boxes, did the job but nothing to get excited over. the halo effect of rs2000/mexico editions has a lot to answer for.

Obviously people pay fop dollar for them, I personally think its crazy for such a mundane vehicle.

I wouldn't pay £10k for a Escort no matter how much I like them, I'd have a Mk2 Jag before I bought one of them.

You have Roger at Affordable Classics to thank for the silly prices, but he's now a victim of his own pricing as any stock he buys will now be top dollar before he's even started adding his bit.

This is what I'd buy if I had 10k.

Then immediately get rid of those hideous whitewalls.

If the photos of the cars offered by KGF are really representative of the actual condition, the prices are justified.

Cars in such outstanding original condition will always command a hefty premium even over a very good restoration.

There's a some people on here who seem to have an issue with people making any money on buying/selling cars, You can often read something like 'This car was up for £600 on Wednesday, it got removed within hours and has now come up for sale 3 days later at £1200, 40 miles away' on the Ebay thread. We all like a bargain, but if you're too slow that's your problem. Cars are a hobby to many of us but they're still a business; there'll be people watching various for sale sites all day looking for that car they can make their money.. It's amusing to see people try to sell something at an extortionate price, it just seems to annoy a few who think they've missed out on the original bargain themselves and feel they have to moan about it.

Apparently the Karl bloke behind KGF is a decent chap, Eclectic Cars tried and seemingly failed on a similar business model; 4-Star seem to be doing OK but I do think some of their stock is rather over-priced and poorly prepared.

Affordable classics does have some great stuff in from time to time and I have been tempted despite it being obvious that his business model is to make the screen price almost exactly double what you'd pay in a private sale (seriously. it works on just about everything he sells- 50% overpriced.)

Supply and demand though, people always want high end stuff they don't need to work on to make perfect.

He's also got a lot of reputation to lose so I'd imagine you get good after-sales service. He is a trader so has to offer warranty but imagine if he ripped you off and stopped answering the phone..... One forum post later and his "excellent original classics" business model is shot.

I don't see what the problem is. He obviously sells enough to keep running so I applaud him, he's doing things that a lot of main dealers fail at.

So can anyone use this KGF bloke to sell their cars?  and anyone know what sort of commission he charges?

If the cars are up to his standards yes.

I know someone who has used his services in the past and the commission was circa 20%. The car was sold for a good price and everybody was happy. I'm thinking of having a clear out later in the year and will probably send him a couple of mine.
