The Great British Spotting Thread Revival

Formula Autos

Recommended Posts

There's been a bit of discussion of late about the lack of spotting threads, so here's some random ones I've got off of me memory card:

12106382945_8458fb693b.jpg

Still in daily use, and often seen wafting around West Cumbria.

12106765514_51af05a86d.jpg

Holiday transport for WINNARS!

12106753634_f88871e623.jpg

Comedy spoiler and mis-matched alloys make for a convincing touring car replica. The tow bar is just the cherry on top.

12106355335_9daf5b1496.jpg

Minty fresh Bluey. Also a daily driver.

12106345585_ae00fbce6c.jpg

This WINNAR has the rapey-vibe mastered.

12107002176_5f1fa7d517.jpg

How many panels would you replace before you decided "aw fuck it - I'm bridging it"? - the bonnet and the other side are also in maroon.

12106718614_491b1ef460.jpg

Another daily driver - despite the illegal number plate.

12106986086_aac58a4936.jpg

Previously owned by a neighbour of mine, and still going strong.

12106312285_07abb48631.jpg

Hiding amongst the moderns, another rare old Renner. Mis-matched wheeltrims too, if you look carefully.

12106678594_537b159e8a.jpg

As seen in this month's Craptical Plastics.

12074205086_eed6cf911a.jpg

Shame about the Barried one.

12074204566_baf859fcc3.jpg

The car you ordered from 1975 has just arrived, Sir!

12074204556_e5f3d4ac7b.jpg

.. and your order from 1983.

12074204536_0a5f964a89.jpg

Someone literally living The Good Life.

12074203926_84116eb9ec.jpg

Wrong plates aside, this is the definition of ORSUM.

12074203116_eba305fb6e.jpg

That is all for now MOAR to follow soon.

Whats going on with that maxi roof?

Either sun* faded vinyl or a nice coat of Dulux, I reckon.

Did someone go a bit overboard with the suspension pump? I don't remember them sitting that high. Actually, most of the Maxis I remember from my childhood were sat with the rear wheels at least up into the arches. Either flat suspension or rust. Or both.

MOAR spots.

12135255363_b3a8120cd2.jpg

Another daily driver, still with the supplying dealer (CG Ford) sticker in the back window.

12135254073_b05ea3d671.jpg

Some sort of Bedford, isn't it?

12135252993_e5803f0779.jpg

Spotted behind the stalls at Flookburgh Steam Gathering a few summers ago. I always have a sneaky peek at what the stall holders have turned up in - there's often good spots to be had.

12135252953_583395c827.jpg

Hiding at the back of the field at Dumfries Aviation Museum.

12135252153_c3c7032049.jpg

12135252113_98e96793ba.jpg

Ovlov villas - the garden's full of them. It's on a really busy, twisty road, and the nearest place you can pull up is about 1/4 of a mile away. This was the best shot I could get, and in the process of taking this someone nearly ploughed into the back of my car. The house is even more decrepit than the cars, and now seems abandoned.

12134825335_cc4abbd633.jpg

This has been here at least ten years that I know of. E or F plate, from what I remember - though it's been about 8 years since I saw the numberplate.

12134824805_13fca82789.jpg

No idea what it is, but it looks like it would probably survive a nuclear apocalypse.

12134823955_74e4a46fd7.jpg

The Midget owner thought I was snapping his car and came over for a chat. He seemed genuinely puzzled as to why I was more interested in the Prarie. I took a photo of his car to humour him, then deleted it.

12134823025_3852c75268.jpg

From the "too good to cube or strip" section of a local scrappy.

Yet MOAR:

12136323686_4839591760.jpg

Front wing invisibly repaired by T Fuckwit & Sons Coachworks.

12136323226_14a9ba4572.jpg

What are the odds an MG Metro Turbo will die in order to resurrect this pile of crap?

12136322706_e0106153b4.jpg

Not really shite, I suppose - but I like it.

12136322236_2a98233fe1.jpg

Same as this thing, parked up in the courtyard of Kielder Castle.

12136322216_48ed8642bc.jpg

Seemingly dumped near where I live. Occasionally a black vinyl spot falls off and blows down the road.

I CAN HAZ MOAR SPOTS AGAIN:

12154931934_7d9143ec14.jpg

Parked up near the Sapphire I posted earlier.

12136468903_18aa939a70.jpg

More dead chod. Check out the hole next to the sunroof.

12136467953_9718969b9d.jpg

Cheating a bit, as it's at a car show. I have seen it in the wild though, as well.

12136467133_9178ae3283.jpg

12136467163_655162b0fa.jpg

With bonus double finger over the lens ineptitude.

12136467193_1dfeb43764.jpg

The barriers are presumably to ward off chartered surveyors from Biggleswade.

12154928554_e25364866d.jpg

I didn't even know such things existed. LHD, so presumably an import from the continent?

12154929144_b0b3cfc511.jpg

Tidy late Clubman with bonus underseal tidemark at the front. Still bombing about as an old ladies' daily.

12154930464_bf4a0fc97f.jpg

Another car show cheat, but posting pictures of a biege Reliant on here comes with minimal risk of a flaming.

12154930494_f783b4e16d.jpg

In the wild, this one. A Lanchester, is it not?

12154931134_bca00a4f23.jpg

And a super rare spot to finish today's proceedings. A Panther Rio, parked next to the Dolly it's based on. Looks like they modified everything except the windscreen and front door glass though.

  • 2 months later...

I can haz nu spots.

More grim cars, as seen in grim Northern towns.

For your delectation, Sirs (and Ladies):

13700431203_6e24476df2_z.jpg

Note the repair to the already mis-matched rear end. Plywood is for WINNARS.

13700438613_9158a4faff_z.jpg

Supposedly dumped to piss off their neighbours and make it difficult for them to get on and off their drive.

13700453783_a5dc696e96_z.jpg

Picture 1 from The Chod Farm

13700446233_0345161c58_z.jpg

The owner's no doubt inside, enjoying a pint or four.

13700787014_3a15ca5949_z.jpg

More from The Chod Farm.

13700556194_e5ddf3ac11_z.jpg

Almost a Cat Piss Tarp Challenge. Must try harder.

13700240443_7217581214_z.jpg

Speaking of challenges, who'd like to identify this?

13700246935_13c6a7b9aa_z.jpg

Also outside a pub.

13700285943_97bb4b73dc_z.jpg

13700299603_c01558e1e7_z.jpg

I'm not sure what's going on with the Olympic rings on the back, but otherwise full of WIN.

13700311363_28db070285_z.jpg

As is this beauty.

13700293725_9b9e55fdea_z.jpg

Spotted through a gap in a garden gate. There's loads more chod in here, but I can't get any decent photos.

13700081733_ecf649b1e8_z.jpg

Hand painted, from what I can remember. Grim.

13700187035_0a1cd73faa_z.jpg

C'mon kids! Let's go out in Dad's new camper. It's got the engine out of a Porsche 924 in it, you know?

13700452335_9150894155_z.jpg

Another from the chod farm. Somehow it made it through the '70s without being crashed in a Euston Films production.

I'd concur.

The biggest mystery though is how it got there. The nearest road's about 100 foot higher, and you'd struggle to drive anything through that field, never mind a FWD family car. I reckon it might have gone flying backwards off the main road above many years ago, particularly as the shell seems banana shaped.

I bet that landing hurt.

Though then again, the jaws of life don't seem to have been anywhere near it, which I'd have thought would have happened after an accident of that sort.

Who knows? It's been there at least 15 years that I know of.
