Hence that is why it is posted in this thread...... "Bargains"

I do know that, I was just saying I don't understand why people are bidding such an amount. There's a difference between asking price (determined by the seller) and bids (determined by prospective buyers) i.e why is someone actually willing to pay £6k .... 👍

MK6 Esgrot with a short MOT (less than 3 weeks to be precise) in a very dull green/brown...

Can't possibly imagine why they haven't put a new MOT on it before sale ......

I know £800 doesn't sound a lot, but with a high chance of it only being worth £250 as bean tins in a couple of weeks I don't somehow think its value for money

In the present pricing surge both of those cars seem to be priced OK. It is a little off putting that the Ford does not have much of a ticket. But at that price it would be worth a punt for someone with some skills. Both are not worthy of a "bargain" post IMHO

It's a MK6 Escort which will probably never be desirable enough to be considered a good investment, if it has a new MOT then for sure £800 is a good price, even £1200 wouldn't be outrageous. But it could be totally rotten so that's a risk. £500 is a lot to lose in the space of 3 weeks if it fails miserably and is nothing more than scrap

Both should be in the ebay tat thread.

I fear sarcasm is not something recognised at times.

The sarcasm was very much taken into account, someone is asking £800 for a car that is realistically only worth £300 unless it has an MOT 🤔

"You're in safe hands" - don't know if that's supposed to be the car in the safe hands, because I don't think it's going anywhere for the moment at that price !!

I know it's clean, original, unmolested and form a 'classic' dealer throwing a speculative price on it....

BUT HOW FUCKING MUCH M9?!?

I especially like the fact they haven't even put a new timing belt on for that money because it was done it 2020.... it is genuinely a 45 minute job on these.

If that's the going rate for one, my soon to be for sale, rust free 16v must be worth near 5k if i put a years MOT on it 😏😂

We had a similar era C-Max Ghia auto, there were some real mingebag omissions on it. No wonder Ford ditched the name, they'd cheapened it so much nobody wanted to pay for it.

I wouldn't give you 800 pence , horrible things , the mk3 escort was okay but this is just plain ugly , tinny ,a crap dash terrible engines ,I had enough of orions as company cars.Good job someone in Ford had the sense to develop the Focus. I believe this piece of shit was still being produced in the 2000s in China and other parts of the world

Those Escorts used to rot like fuck, especially the late ones. I’d be wanting to see if it had actual rear chassis legs left before parting with cash.

Ugh, the JATCO in the mk3 is about as desirable as syphilis. Tax costs a fortune, it’s slow as shit and it’ll go through unleaded like a Worthingtons at a Darts Match.

The glossy classic car magazines often give me some good entertainment. Quentin says it’s really worth £15k but wait…. LOOK! Somebody is selling it for less than that later in the magazine. BARGAIN!!

Those price valuation thingys make me so cross. It seems that they are either wildly low (looking at you Parkers) or completely and incorrectly inflated to make Quentin seem like he's in the know.

Fifteen minutes on car and classic/ ebay/ car purchasing medium of your choice and you can get a real idea of what prices are

Quentin most definitely has a vested interest in his advice! Don’t get me wrong, I find him entertaining and I enjoy reading his columns. I met him once, he was warm and engaging. He was always my favourite Top Gear presenter in the good old days.

When it comes to buying advice, I prefer listening to this chap. Solid gold words from the current Car Mechanics mag.
