Spottedlaurel
Limited captions, it's late. Have fun working them out for yourself... Just after 5am... Baz about to have a drive. Almost the first thing we saw at the Bubble Car museum. Pukka 8.32 on Swiss plates. Wowzers! Cute as you like, but didn't look to be a runner. Comically large wing mirrors. Worth going to just for this. But there's more... RobT, mk2_craig, ProgRocker and 1 other
Spottedlaurel
At least two Honda Z's. Saw this and Mr_Bo11ox came to mind... Not in the museum yet! This was on a trailer, attending the rally on the campsite in the grounds. Skizzer
Spottedlaurel
Any idea on this red thing? Hooray! Stepdad had these in the 80's/early 90's, ace little things. Mrs SL saw these pjhotos and seemed to think I'd visited a scrapyard, not a museum. Nope, but what better sort of museum could you have? Lets not start the rear light debate over again eh? Hurricane, apparently. This looked wonderful. It was this that we'd seen from the road on the way past in the morning, we then resolved to investigate on our return not knowing about the museum. Dead_E23
That Suzuki Fronte is superb! I'm increasingly drawn to kei cars lately - you lot must be a bad influence
Spottedlaurel
Bored of 'em yet? Baz rather fell in love with this! It was very neatly done, electric-powered. Apparently someone has put a diesel in one, read something about it having done some insane MPG. Early one. I remember these plastic bikes about 1984. Coupe was lovely. Comedy back-to-back seats. DKW (neither of us intially got it). loserone, Skizzer, Cord Fourteener and 1 other
mk2_craig
Ex-MoD/Police?Probably one of the London education authorities, possibly Leyland Cub chassis (derived from the Terrier truck). Bodywork is a Wadham Stringer "Vanguard", same type as that bought by the bus operator on Jersey in the mid 1980s but built on the bigger Ford R-series: EDIT... A handful of these Danish-built Mini El also cluttering up early 1990s Jersey, wonder what happened to them all Cord Fourteener
Spottedlaurel
Like the mini-Capri MkI look to these. Cursor another Baz favourite. Anyone know what this came off? As fitted to the Mini-EL thing. Delightful 205GL was just outside, in lovely condition. One of those Festiva things as in KruJoe's thread. Followed this for a while, looked good from the back but had a rotten wing. That's all, g'night! MrRegieRitmo
Is that white one in the background an Enfield? That Suzuki is an odd little thing! Lets not start the rear light debate over again eh? Nowt to debate - it was all sorted! This looked wonderful. It was this that we'd seen from the road on the way past in the morning, we then resolved to investigate on our return not knowing about the museum. That Citroen 350N is both bizarre & beautiful in equal measures! wuvvum
Hey, that's my old DAF 33! Wonderful little old car. Bought for £85 off eBay, hilarious fun to drive. Had a knackered engine mount though, so one side of the engine was held with a chuffing great high-tensile bolt. Held it OK, but vibrated like buggery. That Citroën flatbed is just beautiful. I want one! The little three-wheel Solyto truck is great. I used to see one on the road quite regularly in the early - mid '80s near our holiday place in central France. There was one for sale on UK eBay a few years back, but it was pretty knackered and on the other side of the country or I would have bought it. When did Postman Pat have his van resprayed in blue? KruJoe
What an amazing bunch of snaps!!! That tiny Suzuki looks a right ugly runt.I'd love to be able to give it a caring home. The Mini EL thing's lights made me think Supra for some reason. Then when I couldn't find any Supra pics with anything like that, I thought Ferrari or Maserati - wrong again. Spottedlaurel
Glad you all like the pic’s. Visiting that museum certainly made for a top shite day out for us. Other than the Fronte it’s difficult for me to single out a favourite. Really good little place I thought, newly-built sheds with loads to see in them and lots of rusty/mouldy stuff outside. I’ll certainly visit again with the family if we’re ever up that way. Baz and I both agreed that it would make an ideal venue for an Autoshite meeting, and they are happy to have events there. It’s somewhere between Sleaford and Newark, so fairly central. Some sort of airfield and maybe a museum too at nearby Cranwell for those of that persuasion.Perhaps something we could arrange for 2008 – what d’ya reckon? Ratdat
I've been there a few times as it's kind of local to me (local by Lincolnshire standards that is). They're nice people who run it and very friendly. They were converting that bus into a cafe..have they done it yet? I spoke with them about holding a small event there and got prices etc from them a while back. The cost is very reasonable and they can arrange for catering etc too. There's other stuff in the vicinity too like a couple of go-karting places, aircraft museum, and of course if you time your event carefully, Newark Autojumble is nearby too. ChinaTom
You guys need to approach a TV producer. I see a great 13 episode series here. From the photo with you both extolling the virtues of the Rialto, I guess you could bring in Alexei Sayle and Hugh Dennis as stunt doubles. Budget for 13 episodes and you could be spending the advertising revenue from car insurance companies on buying and trailering (consultancy fees paid to Mr Blx and Mr Bickle) 13 fine examples of autoshite. Karmann Ghia could write the script.I'd watch it.That museum looks great, and is quite local to my UK base. Can't believe how many times I've been past it on the way from P'boro to Brigg without knowing it's there. Just seen the website, but just to clarify, is it open all year round, or did the last weekend's event finish off the year for it? I'll be passing it again in a few weeks time, but judging by the website, it probably won't be open.
seth
Super stuff! I love how much is just laying around looking forlorn. I guess at least they are in safe hands and presumably in a queue for a one day restoration. Citroen flatbed is too cool. We've been meaning to get there for a couple of years now but its never worked out when we've been up that way. An AS event there would be a must! We'd come in the trailer-tent shite!
carlo
The museum looks wonderful; having the older, unrestored vehicles lying about to look at would make it for me.However, looking at the inside exhibits brings me to one of my museum bugbears, cars packed in, roped of and with no means of looking inside, behind or taking decent pictures. The Haynes Motor museum is the worst offender with Beaulieu not much better. Gaydon was pretty good as I remember. When I win the lottery (or probably the Euromillions) I will start a museum where all the cars have plenty of room round them, it's bright and airy and you can open the doors, bonnet and boot. It would also be filled with 60s and 70s tat such as VW K70s, Peugeot 204 Coupes, Glas 1700s and immaculate low mileage Morris Marinas. In fact it's a shame I didn't win last week or this gorgeous Citroen GSA Pallas would have been the first exhibit.http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=004It's good to dream. KruJoe
' I already took a few mins to post at work, but I looked again and OMG I missed some!SO MUCH SHITE and so little time. How could I miss this mention? Well spotted SL! Those lights look more like Kia lights than the ones here.It has Festiva badges, but these are Festivas here: And these are badged "Aspire" in Thailand: (Badge under banana leaf!) I wonder what the story is with your one. The badges/lights look like Kia spec to me, and it was RHD, right? (Judging by the angle of the mirrors.) To me, this one looks like a push-me-pull-you: ^ With this end from a Rebel......and this end from a Robin: (if you squint. A lot.) I really hope this one has a happy (dry) future waiting.A rare beast, indeed: It looks to have been resting a little while.I love the way Lancia made the wheels look half Fiat, half Ferrari. The get-together is a great idea - we'd love to come along if it's in the second half of the year... back-end of the summer would be great. Has there ever been such a shite-packed first page -- on any thread Spotted's spots rule! Back to page 1 for another look! .
Ratdat
Just a though SL... does Tim Smith know about that Fronte? Also, it seems that it must surely be earlier than an M reg as the Giugiaro-designed one came about in '72. I think that shape came into being in 1970. Baz
Great pics S.L....I think the fat bloke who appears a few times could've been edited out....A bit hard to stomach first thing in the morning! Favourites for me, as You say, are the Cursor, and Mini-EL (586 mpg when fitted with a tiny diesel engine apparently! )This was a splendid diversion to our Shite collection mission, reckon it'd be a great location for some sort've Autoshite meet one day! Spottedlaurel
Just a though SL... does Tim Smith know about that Fronte? Also, it seems that it must surely be earlier than an M reg as the Giugiaro-designed one came about in '72. I think that shape came into being in 1970.I did wonder that. You’d hope so, and the museum certainly seemed to act as some kind of forum for various clubs with microcar interests. They had an archive case and there was a separate file for Suzuki. Don’t know about the Fronte’s age, and don’t have the guide book to hand right now. That would have been back in the days when they just issued a new plate when the car was imported, it wasn’t age-related so cars looked a bit newer than they were. Doubtless there’s an interesting story as to how it ended up here. If we did get it in on the last weekend they were open then it was an even happier accident. Seth, I did also wonder about some kind of camping thing with the family – we successfully braved the tent this year, so we’d definitely give it a go again next year. Knowing that there wouldn’t just be a dozen blokes talking about Talbot Solaras would help my case…

Ratdat
Was the Fronte actually sold over here? Not as such I don't think. We got the SC100 but I think thet's actually a rebadged Cervo rather than a Fronte. I think the Fronte, although it looks similar is actually a bit smaller. I Know of one 1960's Fronte being resored which I believe was sold here by Suzuki but I suspect it was a model that never went onto to full sales, much like the Honda 1300 and Colt 1000. michiel
I've just received a small Dutch flyer for the one before that I think, I have a few road tests as well (360 and 500 versions) but I wonder if they ever really sold one... would love to find one ofcourse! I think they gave up after that and came back in the late 70s with the Alto and SC100.
Mr_Bo11ox
I'm sure the geezer from the SC100 club has an old Fronte. I'm sure i remember reading about it, he could not stop it from seizing its engine every few hundred yards. Looked spectaculary cool though.
