Guest Posted January 10, 2007 Share Posted January 10, 2007 The Charmant is a KE70 Corolla 4 door Saloon with the same engines, gearboxes etc.The Corolla GT engine doesn't come stock, but it is a popular swap because using a mixture of Toyota parts you can fit them fairly easily. I went to the Model Engineering Exhibition at Alexandra Palace and was expecting to find the car park full of typical old duffer mobiles but only came across two Anyway, a specific spotting detour on the way home through an area I don't know well threw up some lovelies Oh, and appologies if all the earlier photos are no longer visible but I've still only got a limited amount of on-line storgae space so have to clear out every so often. Got these two on the way there while stuck in traffic Opposite where I parked: In the car park - Cavalier looked very good. Then on my "Seth route" home.... Datsun camper? Not officially shite but opposite the camper and further up the same road I went round a block 'cos I thought I'd spotted an ADO16 but it wasn;t there. But this was! It was out the front of some garage premises that looked like it might have contained more proper tat so I'll have to go back to investigate. I will have one some day........Queried Datsun camper looks like a 620 (1500), what some people call 'bulletsides' due to the swage line below the windows. Wonder if it's still got the J15 engine (essentially a BMC B-series IIRC) or whether it's a US import with bigger L20 lump. It looks like it's got double rear wheels. seth Posted February 1, 2007 Author Share Posted February 1, 2007 I got off the bus eaerly on the way home from town this afternoon as there was a spot I knew I had to capture before they disappeared. Found a lot more on my walk home! This "garage" hasn't been a petrol station in my living memory but was the lighting shop up until a couple of years ago. The lighting people redeveloped a different plot 50 yards away (and in so doing destroyed an old garage that had once been home to the Speedwell tuning firm ) and shut this one up. There's a huge plot of land behind it whiuch must be worth a mint so it probably won't be long before it turns into more luxury flats... Anyway, the reason for my visit was hiding just round the side. So that job done I needed to get a shot of this 2CV just down the road, complete with off road exhaust Opposite was a non-shite Jensen and down another driveway, I peered down the next residential road and caught sight of this so went to investigate. Why do some roads seem paritcularly shite full? Proper CTP. I really dont know what this is HF Turbo Ageing Hymer mobile I know the guy who owns the Escort and Midget. I presume the Saab is his mum's? How d'ya fancy the wagon Pog? Getting closer to home and this Dolly was an unexpected find. Obviously undergoing a running resto. Cherry, being kept company buy a 5. There used to be one or two rusting Rootes hulks parked here. I'd love to know what's in the garages! I don't usually photograph 205's as they seem quite common still but this is an earlyish one and is a particularly horrible colour. A special edition of some sort. The chrome headlamp surrouns are odd - US cars had them, but I wonder if there was some way of getting the paint off a black surround to reveal that? OK, that last one isn't shite, especially as its an Imperial, but I was so chuffed to finally photograph it. I've seen it regularly since I've lived in this area and know where it lives too. Its driven by a little old lady who must be well into her 80's and probably only does the mile or so to the shops and back every week or so. She usually parks it where she likes (blue badge). A very sorry double six on the same road as the flower power Volvo This house is opposite IKEA on teh North Circ close to the timewarp garage. There are two Minors (inc that early small screen one just visible) and they used to be kept company by a tatty ZA/ZB MG Magentte. That disappeared a while ago but I noticed a Wolseley 16/60 had arrived yesterday! This lives just down the road from me and is owned by a young guy I know. Unfortunately about a week after I took this he got cut up and the front end has been wrecked Espace close to Goodge St. tube station. And another Espace at the Cambridge/Oxford OC meeting I went to yesterday. I don't think it blonged to a club person though. However I'm pretty sure this did! They are all Banger Racers after all! Particularly like the 'Hart To Hart' spec SL and the Silvia.I came across a cracking couple of spots last night on my trudge from Carshalton Beeches station to the Cav seller's house...a dust-and-bird-poo covered untaxed Mazda RX-7 Turbo convertible (why was it unused???) and a fantastic '85 Merc 280SE outside a similarly-tatty Edwardian semi! Eight-spoke chrome wheels aren't the greatest thing, but still 76 times better than the terrible alloys Nissan fitted.The Carina II looks perfect sitting on that crazy paving (something we don't see much of out here in the sticks).I'd love to spend a day cycling round the 'burbs of North London. Here's a few more.J plate is newer than I'd normally photograph but I think the dented, hubcapless and estateness of it help it to shitedom. Filling up at Sainsbury's This Diesel Daihatsu must be a grim drive? On the M1 on Sunday These two Renaults live near my brother but I'd forgotten about them until I dropped by earlier this evening.
