dollywobbler
Spirits were high in the Freelander of fun. Here, Phil manages to drive it from the back seat. Actually, he let folk take turns at the wheel. Thanks Phil. Enjoyed seeing what it could do as well as bouncing around in the back. There was lots of Wow. The Fronteras doors were gaffer taped up to keep water out (from the two puddles we went through). This is how to get in, demonstrated by M'Coli, CMS206, David Fowler and Phil. Back at site. dollywobbler
Mass Woollarding started serious... But then got a bit silly KruJoe and Cap'n Slow show how it should be done. The Shite cars salute the sunset Phil tries the Princess of win Captain Slow tries the Polonez of win Then pub happened because it was perishing. Then sleep was attempted and I may have lost my humour with noise levels at about midnight. Sorry! I was knackered. This morning. Some went to the YHA for brekkie. Scotland had other ideas. Finally, this photo has no explanation. John F, SambaS, KruJoe and 2 others
vulgalour
Truely, Mr Wobbler's pictures are very worthy of demonstrating just what Shitefest 2013 was all about. I think I have never seen a happier man than the one I passed the keys of the Princess to on the day, it surpassed even Captain Slow's joy at piloting the Soviet Princess. I don't have a panaromic setting on my ageing camera, but I do have Photoshop. Field of (broken) dreams. French, floppy topped but actually rather smart. Wish the Princess would stop looking furtive. Of all the pictures I took, I think this is my favourite. You won't get this sort of quality at other shows. I wanted to take this home, I really did. Some other old cars drove past, I took some excellent* photographs of them. explosive-cabbage and mouseflakes
dollywobbler
Great to see the field with 'rogue' cars in it. Sad to have missed Mr Imp and Volksy. That 205 does look nice.
vulgalour
The origins of this Calibra, as Krujoe was informing us while travelling up dale and down hill, belied what you saw on the field. Smart cars like this looked almost out of place at Shitefest. That shiny Prelude definitely looked out of place. I liked these Scottish mobile bedsits. If for nothing else, Shitefest was worth attending for the beautiful scenery not just around the field of sheep poo but for the wider environs. If you'd like to know what wabi-sabi don't look on Wikipedia, look at this picture. This picture less well encapsulates it, but it has a caravan in it and a row of interesting vehicles. We did enjoy playing Where's Wally? but then he put a hoody on and the game got a lot harder to play.
vulgalour
North Yorkshire is spectacular. Sometimes the sun comes out and you can see just how spectacular. I have no idea what I was trying to photograph here. The notice board was useful. Although I don't have any photographs of it, just on the horizon mushroom clouds kept appearing. Huh, an actual nice picture, sometimes I do surprise myself. OMGBRNFND! Just as well it was on the field when the cow dropped in on it's usual home. All these bonnets work properly, not one of them needs assistance. I was both disappointed in them and the fact that I still haven't resolved the issue with the Princess bonnet rams. All of these bonnets work properly too! It was like they were rubbing their functionality in. I did get annoyed at all the crowds getting in the way of my pictures, I had to wait minutes before they got in front of the camera so they could obscure my view of the cars on show. vulgalour
Some action shots finally. It was getting bitingly cold and we were getting ready to head home as I couldn't stop given my duties at home. This was a sight that gave me the warm fuzzies, bringing back childhood memories of the neighbour's Polonez. As you can clearly see, the Polonez is a speed MACHINE. A quick Scandinavian Flick into the Shitefest field. Oh hey, I did get a picture of the Polonez and the Princess together after all, how about that... but wait, Will wasn't wearing a pink shirt. It's Captain Slow! That would explain the driving technique then. Tragically, Captain Slow was born with a rare deformity known as Lead Foot, it's completely incurable. ALL CHANGE! That's Shitefest from me. There were other opportunities to photograph things, but I spent most of the day in a daze induced by headcold and epic chod. I had a very enjoyable time and I look forward to the next Generic Rubbish Vehicle Event. Captain Slow and davidfowler2000
M'coli
Finally, this photo has no explanation. It does have one! I woke early this morning (about 7-ish) and went for a walk, and went a bit further than I planned - I removed this from the fence on the footpath/staircase that allws you up onto the limestone pavement above Malham cove itself. It was trapped on the fence just behind the tree you see as the path disappears. I returned to the field at about 9.20, and realised that I'd missed breakfast at the YHA - many thanks to cms206 and DavidFowler2000 for the roll an' skwerr slice. vulgalour and mouseflakes
mouseflakes
It was certainly a great venue - worth a visit even without the lure of a field full of chod. M'coli and vulgalour
explosive-cabbage
I don't have many pictures unfortunately, I was too busy pissing around/driving/being drunk to be paparazzi. I'm relying on you guys for that input! Anyway, here's my input. Signage The sign that caused OMG SHIT KAOS Moving Chod. Didn't want to jacknife Olga so we used the Rav as brakes. Until Ravinda decided she had one wheel too many - So we had to drag Joe to the pub to drown his sorrows! This is a brilliant pic. Already posted in 2014 calendar dump thread. I didn't get many laning photos, but here's a few. Edd looks stoned he's enjoying it so much! Pen-y-ghent in the background. Garage in Kettlewell. Loving the TY80 bike to the right! The bottom of that brilliant lane down into Countersett. The money shot! Fortunately I didn't get any pics of the night time antics. Thank-you for those of you who helped move chod home, well done. We wouldn't have blamed you for hiding from the weather! Ian, your photos are epic. Phil, your just a massive hero. Thanks Zippy and JohnF for showing me how I can get myself into trouble in the future, fun shall be had. I'll do my best to make you proud. Nice to see some of you got out round Malham to enjoy the scenery, definitely not one to miss! Sorry I missed/ignored a few of you. What with Ravinda loosing a wheel and making us late to miss introductions, and with the late arrival back from chod-breaking our paths did not cross. Hope to meet you in the future and share stories. I hope you all enjoyed looking over my scrap* whilst I wasn't there! explosive-cabbage
Those of you who went green laning with us would have been aware of a clunking coming from the back of the Lada, probably the diff. This started on the first lane of the day and got progressively worse.I have time today to take a peek: Lifted the Lada up with the tractor, onto high axle stands. When it was up like this we span the wheels and found that there was no drive to the driver's side rear wheel. So I've been off-roading in a 3 wheel drive Lada. Excellent! Brakes, handbrake, radius arms, panhard rod, imput shaft all off. This is the splines of one of the half-shafts. I previously took this one out to replace a brake back plate. Looks fine to me - conclusion - it's not my bad work practice that is causing the clunk noises, its mechanical failure in the diff! First introduction to our newest member - chavinthecorner. Dan is a dab hand at 'agricultural engineering' and always up for getting his hands (and hoodies) dirty. Nice one Dan, thanks for the help. 2 man job, lifting the axle out. Stripping down to remove the other half-shaft. Diff out the axle. With help from Sol and fellow Autoshiters we used an empty* water bottle to re-fill the diff with oil on one of the tracks.Water remaining in the bottle created an emulsion with the oil and causes the 'mayonnaise' effect, that is why this oil looks milky. It will all have to be cleaned out. Oops! Somebody has lost a tooth! Aha! Stipped down. One of the gears on the end of the half-shaft was shagged. Teeth missing and generally not very happy. The smaller planetary gears took a battering too from all the sharp edges. This is the worst one! :- Mucky job, but it's an easy fix, off the shelf parts probably. May have to wait for parts from Russia but I have Helga for a diff if not. I'll have it bossed. M'coli and John F
wuvvum
I R JELLUS. Will have to make more of an effort next time - looked like a proper good weekend, and spectacular scenery. A combination of an unreliable Range Rover and needing both sleep & moneyz for my trip to Rome (leaving tomorrow night) meant it wasn't really doable this time. vulgalour
Feel like I missed out a bit seeing those green lane snapshots, looks like lots of fun and beautiful scenery. I do worry about Captain Slow, I'd not added this picture I took with my mobile in my previous update. We knew we were going to a field used to keep sheep in, so there was a good chance of sheep poo. For this and other reasons I didn't do a super special clean of the Princess, Captain Slow on the other hand took the first opportunity that presented itself to jetwash the Montego so it looked as clean as possible for the event. Madness. Pubs are serious business too, we made sure to put on our serious faces when we headed over to The Falcon to find out what the ovroadahs had got up to. John F
So I've been off-roading in a 3 wheel drive Lada. Excellent! That must have happened on the lane after the river section, Will. Remember you asked me to check if both wheels were spinning when you set off? The diff seemed to be fine then.

dollywobbler
Aye - if it really wasn't driving one of the rear wheels, it wouldn't have wheelspun at the back, which it did. The drive would just have gone to the free-spinning halfshaft. All very odd. It did sound horrific at times! Also, if the front seal was leaking, water may have got in that way too. There would only have been a tiny amount of water from that emptied bottle. If oil was getting out, water could easily have got in. I bloody admire your worth ethic though! So far, I've only just diagnosed the problem with my Disco!

gdhaydock
I didn't actually take any pictures, so you will all have to conjure your own images from the list of statements below .... - I was the 1st non-Malham resident to arrive- Malham sheep poo is very runny- Erecting a caravan awning alone, whilst dodging said sheep poo is difficult- The Malham pie from the Buck Inn gave me flatulence- The 3 pints of Timothy Taylor's landlord consumed with the above pie may have also contributed to the above- 8 cans of Guiness on friday night after the pub gave me a headache on Satuday morning- The breakfast at the YHA cleared the headache- Tinworm is not a good adhesive for holding a RAV4 axle on with.- The discos didn't need recovering by the Niva- The Niva didn't need recovering by the discos- 3 people can lift the back end of the Niva to save jacking it up for diff top up purposes- The best method of getting in and out of Frontera is through the sunroof- The Niva can go faster than my disco on the winding roads of North Yorkshire.- Joe's garage roof won't support the weight of a fully grown cow- Settle has a nice chip shop- A Honda C90 moped with no brakes is 'interesting'- The above moped runs well on petrol, but less so on vodka- The people daft enough to try drinking the above vodka after it had been drained from the moped could still taste it the day after.- 3 hours sleep on saturday night wasn't really enough- The YHA breakfast on sunday helped to make up for the above.- The caravan awning was dismantled prior to the OMG RANE CAOS that arrived Sunday- The disco makes a fine weapon for pulling an A frame uphill- The 125p behaved better on the A frame than the Niva- 6 people in a 205 looked cosy- The 205 above is ace and I want it, but can't justify a use for it.- It rained on Sunday- I got a wet right foot- The disco won't go up the steep, loose rocky slope in Joe's bottom field in the rain- The NSR indicator lens on a disco is stronger than the NSF indicator lens on an FSO 125p with no brakes.- A John Deere tractor makes an excellent impromptu vehicle lift- I got through 19 cans of Beer, 5 pints in the pub(e) & shedloads of coffee.- The disco got through 40 litres of diesel and a tyre.- I slept for nearly 12 hours on Sunday night.Shitefest was an ace weekend and i'm missing it already HillmanImp, SambaS, davidfowler2000 and 4 others

KruJoe
Proof that the Chris_Volksy and H.Imp did make it across from Leeds: We were just discussing the above-mentioned mushroom clouds emerging from beyond Malham moor when I picked up the phone to a panicked MrsKJ: Where are you? There's a cow on the roof, come back now! So I jumped in our best-running tat (omg barn find MR2) and scooted off up the hill to this: This is the lean-to where the MR2 has been dormant for months until that morning. Where the bonnet and screen would be: From the field behind: From Chavinthecorner's chav-phone: (Ta to brother Dan for those three.) Happy now you lot?!
