The Reverend Bluejeans
.....that thousands of new cars had the NOO A REG! plates screwed on ready for August 1st tomorrow. Was a really big deal at the time. So, choose your three brand new OMG A REG! vehicles. Me? Alfasud 1.3Ti, an E30 323i and a Porsche 928S manual. hennabm
purplebargeken
A reg Ford Granda 2.8i Ghia X (auto flavour) A reg Ford Escort RS Turbo A reg Mercedes 190E I actually did buy a new A reg Ford Fiesta 950cc Pop Plus in special order black (A599 JLV - last taxed in 1995). I then promptly put an XR2 decal on the tailgate and a spoiler on the rear hatch. Oh, and proper XR2 spotlights too. It did look good though. I chopped it in after about 18 months for a Y reg Mk1 Sierra 1.6L (ELV 76Y - last taxed in 1993).
trigger
The RST1 didn't come out until 1985 on a B plate. A nice Sierra 2.0 Ghia would be high on the list, actually there's so many cars from that era I'd pick that I can't really choose only 3,

The Reverend Bluejeans
Thing is: there are lots of A reg cars that would still be nice to drive today - reasonably rustproof, lively, economical and capable of long trips.

dollywobbler
1) Citroen BX - freshly arrived on the UK market, though sadly no diesel yet.2) Citroen 2CV - Dyane left the UK market last year, so I'll go for a 2CV6 Special - the base model.3) Opel Monza. Didn't the GS/E become available in 1983? If so, one of those please. In black or dark grey.

warren t claim
My family actually bought a couple of new Fords on 1/8/83, a Fiesta and Sierra. Sad but true. I quite fancy an early 205 GTi but I have a sneaking suspicion they weren't quite out by then so I think I'm going to have to go for a 2.8i Capri, Rover 3500 Vitesse and maybe an RS1600i. Pillock
Yeah, the wheels take a bit of getting used to but I really like that.I hope it has some daft engine to justify the wider rubber, like a twin turbo Rover V8 or summat.

Also wouldn't mind a Vauxhall Cavalier 1.8 CDi saloon and a Skoda Estelle 120 LS. Ooh - and a Renault 4...and a Fiat Panda.
CortinaDave
Wow a grey grille sierra that's still taxed! I thought they were all dead. Where did you see that?? I'd be having a cortina crusader please, you could just about still get one of those on an A reg(ok I'd be pushing it) I'd happily have a nice new sierra 2.0 ghia but since Ford were fire-selling off the near ghia spec crusaders at the time for sierra L money that's what id be having. I'd also fancy a Capri 2.8 injection Or mk2 cavalier SRI

Vince70
You could have one of the last mk1 golfs, or wait a month and you could have the Mk2I had a mk2 gti 5 door on an A plate it had a horrible vinyl roof so I guess it must of been one of the first.
