Some superb 1/18 miniature chod

Junkman

Recommended Posts

The company is called BoS - Best of Show.

The models are resin and actually made by the French company OTTO on commission.

Why they cost twice the money of an average OTTO is beyond me, but there you go, I'll have to sell one of my daughters after all.

Do you think they're better than sunstar models? I have a couple of their london buses and they look almost real.

Unquestionably. Whilst the Otto / BoS / GT Spirit resin models don't have opening doors and the like, the detail is very, very good.

Let's make this a general 1/18 scale shite thread, what do you guys think?

I found more, and not all that German.

OK, this one is to an extend:

But it's also available in civilian.

Jon, I think the only way you might get one is French eBay. We sold ours really quickly and they are unavailable at both the UK importer and our suppliers in France.

Otto don't tend to re-issue older models so I can't see a new one turning up tbh.

Every shite seems to have a diecast-model of itself, but not the best selling Subaru-model ever?

Hardly any shite has a 1/18 scale diecast model of itself, that's why I opened this thread. Shite to be released in 1/18 scale is nothing short of a sensation, you usually only get your newfangled Audi, VW, Porsche, BMW, or Mercedes in that scale. The manufacturers are only very slowly waking up to honest shite.

However, a lot of the old Japanese chod was available as a plastic kit, so, too, the Leone:

But it's a "Swing Back City Cowboy", hence a must have on those grounds alone.

Generally, the 80s aren't up with model manufacturers yet, except for the exciting news I posted in this thread, and a lot of generic shite will likely never be produced in model form.

If no model was produced when the car was contemporary, than you're most probably simply S out of L.

True enough.  The trouble is that if its done in diecast then they need to be able to sell well in excess of 10,000 units. Norev manage this quite well as one casting can become several things - couple of different colours of road car, maybe a rally version, police version or emergency services or manufacturer liveried version so they do quite well out of it.

Sometimes if the manufacturer wants it for their dealers to retail then something otherwise unlikely gets done in 1/18 (and I'm thinking Renault Modus here).

Otherwise its down to the likes of Otto who can justify lower production runs as they produce in resin rather than diecast hence we sometimes do get spectacular 1/18s like the Renault 14, Mk4 Escort and Mk3 Fiesta which we otherwise wouldn't get.

That said, I reckon its fairly safe to say there will never be a 1/18 scale Solara...

I mostly stick to 1/43rd but I have some of the more chodley 1/18 like the Norev CX and Otto R14.  Just got the Norev R16 in black which is lovely.  And I've got the IST Lada in beige which is identical to the one my grandad had.  I had to treat myself to the Otto Fiesta XR2 Mk2 as well as these models are just fabulous.

A 1/18 Marina or Allegro is high on the wish list but boggo British cars are few and far between in this scale.  Wolseley 6/80 police car would look fab too.

I can't really understand why the 1/18 scale manufacturers are so reluctant to shell out old British chod.

There is hope though, with the excellent Model Icons Jag MKII released and the XJ6 in the pipeline.

We'll probably sadly never see a Marina or an Allegro, but what about a Rover P6 and all the Fords and Vauxhalls?

I mean, a Cortina MKIII sure would be a no brainer, as well as a Granada MKI.

PA Cresta should be a good seller, too.

Anyway, I am planning of getting me the black R16 too. Where do you usually buy your models?

Junkman, if you want a black 16 then drop me a PM, I have a delivery of them due tomorrow and as Autoshiters get a discount it would be cheap

I hardly ever keep any models for myself - we wouldn't stay profitable for long if I did but I have kept a couple.....

There has been a MkIV Cortina in 1/18 and it was very, very good. Other stuff I don't really see as there just wouldn't be the demand outside the UK for them unfortunately.  Similarly the older Fords and Vauxhalls never made it outside the UK so I guess its unlikely we'll see them in 1/18 scale.

Model Icons has been a problem. Initially the quality in no way justified the price and whilst they are getting better they still don't sell that well. Hopefully the XJ6 will do better. Part of the problem with the first Model Icons Escorts was that the Sunstar castings they used whilst nice enough weren't good enough for a £69.99 price tag and they were heaviliy discounted just about everywhere.

For newer stuff there is some basic shite about - Skoda Roomster and Superb (Abrex) Mondeo, Polo, Prius, Focus (Paudi) and Peugeot 504, VW Santana (Welly) its just that this scale seems to be a bit out of fashion with manufacturers at present and importers are scared of doing anything thats not likely to be mass market...

It is always fascinating to see that the British have no idea how popular their old cars are abroad. They often are more popular abroad, than in Britain. I guarantee you, Continental Europe is just waiting for a 1/18 Rover P6 and PA Cresta, whether the UK is or not. A strong seller abroad and in the UK should be the ADO16.

Also, the serious collectors are so starved for genuinely new stuff at the moment, they will buy anything new.

I'm still ecstatic about the Otto Peugeot 305 GTX I got from Mr Lobster off ebay recently, I never thought that would make it to 1/18.  And I have to say the Otto models are stunning - who needs opening doors and bonnets when the proportions and detailing are so accurate.

Wish I knew Autoshiters got a discount before I bought it though, perhaps I'll get a double discount if I buy another?!

8)

We do have a 'shiters discount but generally through the website rather than eBay. If you want the discount code then either drop me a PM or something - it knocks off a few quid at checkout!

Glad you like it though, I never see most of the Ottos as we don't open them but the ones I have opened are superb.

I only have the R16 TX and it is very good. However, I do miss opening features and wish more of the OTTO objects would be rendered by the diecast mass producers.

Having said that, Norev does a valiant effort of throwing French 1/18 tat at us, there are some truly astonishing upcoming releases announced.
