Autoshite on Facebook

At the risk of sounding like a snob, [anyone who knows me will know I'm not] can I ask you all here what you think of the Autoshite Facebook page? I really like the forum [even though I don't actually post much], but I find the Facebook page to be fairly full of arrogance and name calling which I find unnecessary and unpleasant. I realise that Autoshite isn't a place to always speak the Queen's English and I swear as much as anyone, but The Autoshite Facebook page used as it is, in my opinion does the reputation of the Autoshite community no favours at all.

Much of it is just pointless drivel being posted by either fuckards or people who should know better, Most seem to spend their time slagging of old cars and posting new stuff and trying to start arguments.

It's Autoshite only in name these days I feel.

It's a bit faster moving than here which is sometimes good if you're after a hit of Renault 9s. The downside is that 20% rubbish content is a lot more than 20% of the couple of posts we get here.

When I dipped into Facebook last it seemed to be some bloke convinced that anyone who didn't like his new Range Rover was jealous of it. I can read that kind of self delusion anywhere so hopefully when this forum can accept new members this doesn't happen.

I agree with what Trigger said ... It's AS in name only

It's full of people who need educating on what shite is. Adding the word shite to something doesn't make it shite, a picture of a new Ferrari with a caption "fast shite" is just wrong. Pictures of Porsches, new Range Rovers's and whatever do not belong on Autoshite. Forgotten about, unloved or rusty motors yes.

All modern cars R shit etc ... not shite.

I do not look forward to the opening of the doors to this place if the people on the AS facebook page are anything to by

Agreed, but I can't stop looking at it.

Taste of things to come in this forum if we start letting all these 'tards in when the thing's fixed.

The one good thing about Farcebook is that it's pretty easy to block people and remove them totally from your world. Once I've been entertained by a cretin I usually block him after a day or so once he gets annoying.

Facebook page is full of twats, it's almost as bad as classic car scrapyard finds where people repost the same shite every week and upload photos that aren't theirs. It's very unlikely you'll see people posting photos they took themselves never mind photos of classic cars in scrapyards.

Afternoon all

The AS facebook page is my fault, I set it up a few years back for no reason in particular and while I have to approve people who are asking to join, unfortunately I didn't realise that people who were already members could add other people which seems to be what has led to the recent bout of silliness. I have now changed that setting so that I have to approve all requests, which is around ten per day at present.

I also have the POWAH to boot off anybody who's engaging in nonsense or just plain blatant trolling, I have taken action against two who thought they'd have fun strirring things up amongst Renner 11 fans and there's currently a third with whom my patience is starting to wear a bit thin, though I do generally have a 'hands-off' approach unless I become aware of notable disruption.

Hope that sounds reasonable. I by no means am active to the point of reading every particular thing that goes on, but tagging my name in a post or picture will alert me if matters are getting a bit out of hand.

Best wishes

Craig (Miller)

Craig - it's hardly your fault that you set up a perfectly decent group and then it gets abused by trolls!

I don't presume to be able to demand action against any one person who happens to piss me off, or suggest that I am always in the right myself. However, if you haven't done so already, I would encourage you to take a look at the comments of "Dino Karaoli" and make your own mind up about him.

He's got a very nice Range Rover.

As an AS-FB regular contributor, I can safely say I've never seen any unpleasant behaviour on its pages, I find there's far less bickering on there as people don't talk about "Tony Blair" or "this is so off topic!!1" or "spamming". Fair dos it's usually very boring and clutters up my feed but there's the occasional gem that doesn't make the forum.

Plus it's often amusing to put faces to names 8)

I do agree, I follow it or it follows me and is a steady interesting news stream at times but recently its been any old shite or new shite literally and worrying Barryboys.com attacks on vehicles n stuff which is a pity. It's all about appreciating those invisible or lesser loved cars and the obvious ones too. So by poking at stuff many are missing the point.

As for forums having FB pages. They really are different beasts. My forum has almost dried up now, but the fb fan site is more like pic posting blog. growing though... Gah, might weigh em all in!

To be honest I prefer the FB page to here nowadays. With the caveat that some of the silly nonsense in there lately has needed to be dealt with (and I'm glad you're onto it, Craig); it's a far, far better place to put spots than here. As I'm spotting old crap of all hues anyway, it's better placed there where the people who like whatever it is, can have a look and a quick chat and move onto the next thing. Suits me down to the ground.

Hopefully, as things settle down again, which it looks like they are, the leavers will come back, and make it what it should be again.

Thanks for the sentiment but I am guilty of creating something for folk to use then being on the wrong side of laissez-faire when it comes to keeping an eye on what's going down. I'm not the sort of person to treat such a group as "my baby", if I was then every second post would be from me and I'd never be away from it.

If things don't settle down perhaps another pair of eyes or two with access to the Remove button might be sensible :)

I had an issue last night, in a pointless attempt to educate a "F/B page" user, about what Autoshite is, and he was ignoring pretty much everything I wrote, instead concentrating on the fact that I didn't realise the Facebook group had a moderator. I told him it's because we are generally self policing (because we had to be for a few years I guess!) (That, and it rarely escalates beyond a difference of opinion about specific seat trim fabric names in 1980s Fords) but he was most adamant that we had "reported" his mates and had them booted off, and trying to tell us how one of them is a fine and upstanding citizen, and does a lot of work for Charity, and if we disagreed with him again, he would stand on the roof of his car and fight a dozen of us at a time..... Or summat like.... I lost interest. It started as two mongs berating a rather fetching R11 I think, and I suppose I didn't help by me addressing them as rogue turds.... I am certainly guilty of foul language, but that's me... love me, love my tongue. I is fresher than the posts in here, more fluid, but the interlopers just don't "get it". Has anyone else noticed that?

The decision to silence the stirrers was mine alone, and made without anybody else directly requesting it. I was only aware of the fuss as I had commented (positively!) on the Renner earlier in the day then returned later to find like 137 notification emails in my inbox.

I'm old enough and ugly enough to be able to judge when things are getting out of hand and what is best to do about it - just that I havent been around enough to detect the bad behaviour in the first place! Hopefully on the mend now but if any more malarkey takes place then a quick message my way will get results.

I left when it became clear it was nothing to do with the AS way of life - there were people slagging off cars like Praries, Micras and Renault 5s seemingly because they didn't have a zillion hoursepower, or they were ugly, or they didn't have a redtop in. I pointed out it was closer to Pistonheads than Autoshite.

There was also the "discussion" about Novas and how they're oh so shit - until you lower them, and they become magically better.

I love the fb page, great for a quick flick when I'm out and about and quick and easy to upload something interesting that's been spotted. It was awesome about 6 months ago when it was JUST people who were on here first, but has been joined by a lot of the cunts that are the Classic Car Scrapyard Find followers which has ruined it somewhat.

I still really like it for the reasons already mentioned, especially putting faces to names and getting to know people a bit beyond their username and avater :D

I enjoy posting on there as my alter ego, Mark Allen. I find it handy to post ads of interesting cars I've found on the net 'cos I can click on share to Facebook without having to right click, save image location and so forth.

The conversation usually flows quite well and quicker than on here but the main forum seems to be better for general topics and advice.

I'm a member on Autoshite FB and Classic Scrapyard Finds, and to be honest, the AS one is the better of the two, but as many have already said, there are a few on there who wouldn't know what to do with a choke cable, let alone a Cortina.

The CSF site is laughable, absolute knobbers, picking rows, and asking "Saw tis 2day, wot iz it", when it's something that any self respecting car-nerd would know...ie a FUCKING ITAL!!!

I just keep on "subscribing" to it as it makes me feel better about myself, knowing that i am able to walk and breathe at the same time. i can also dress myself. Most of the time.

Just had a look at the facebook page and have to agree about the range rover muppet. Anyone who calls any 4x4 a Jeep even though it isn't a Jeep deserves a slow and painful death, it winds me right up. I am sure vosa would be really interested in his comments as well very bad form to publicly rubbish the organization you are working for. Yes they are silly rules but they are law and as a tester you shouldn't condone people breaking the law.

I am not a member of bookface so I cannot comment on as group, im one of those people stuck in the past who actually enjoys talking to friends personally my opinion is the art of conversation has been lost to technology

I'm also in the AS and CSF groups, and have to endorse the muppetry comments. Both are ruined by the Escort/Nova worshippers, who can't see past a modern engine and Minilites, and the dream-garage lifestylers who absolutely have to have the top example of the top model of whatever it is that's taken their fancy, and nothing less is worth even a glance. However, it's much easier to post photos there, especially given the level of sudden fuckwittery I'm experiencing on Photobucket. For that reason, and in the hope of improvement, I'll stick with it.

Craig, if you need a hand.....
