The postcard people are laughing at the caravanners - and that's not right. 1984 eh? Didn't some writer bloke called George Orwell write a rather turgid book about that? The caravan crowd are a long way from the Miners' Strike. Perhaps the lady in the purple bikini is reading The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail? Not sure if I've ever stayed in one with perspex windows though, which ages me - the ones at the back look more familiar. Was very pleased to find it, as it's the town where I was born and grew up just outside of (ditto Baz), used to go shopping there every Saturday and fruit and veg would get bought off the market that was set up as below (remember, in those days before Tesco etc ruled the world?). As I've recounted before, at 16 I started work at a very old-fashioned firm of surveyors/estate agents on the RH side and my office window overlooked this scene. Cranbrook Road in beautiful downtown Ilford, with a bonny little 100A coming towards us and a cracking pair of FE's waiting to turn right. Estate or VX4/90, tough choice eh? A genteel Yorkshire town someone may recognise: There's a Maxi leading a line of Fords (I think). Have a vivid memory from about 1973 of rather glamourous Mum-of-friend having to hitch up acres of maxi-skirt in order to drive Maxi car. The skirt was dark blue, the car honey yellow. Nice.You still haven't described a modern scene though, if it includes Texas Homecare then we're about 12 years out of date as they were taken over by Homebase in 1995! I miss the "Just ask for Tom" slogan and the free car stickers you used to get depicting him as a silhouette which my child like mind thought was a paint brush as it was that sort of shape!
