Wheeler dealers - MK 1 essy

Did anybody catch the above a couple of weeks ago? Basically they bought an L reg one, 1600 X flow, seats from an XR2, missing door card. Although it was a very solid example it had a shit paint job and needed a front wing.

They handed over £4.5K for the car.

I know retro fords are getting expensive, but that money for what is basically a heinz 57 of various fords is ludicrous.

Having said that, it will only get worse.

Stash your sierras, pumas and cougars away now.

it was an exceptionally clean shell 2 door, with a 1.6 crossflow

and that mockery twat travelled to cornwall for it

but i thought it was worth about 3k maximum (800 for 711m, and 2200 for the car)

and then they spoiled it and sold it for 10k

It was a funny sort of mixture that they ended up with, not a rally replica or an understated saloon that it had previously been. I'd drive it though (but I wouldn't part with 10 large for it...). The 2 things that amazed me were the price paid originally and that the metal didn't have the appearance of a teabag after being ragged round a field for months or years.

What about that bloody black n blue Range Rover? The previous owner was clearly a well healed crack addict. Looked pretty sweet after the magic had been worked.

My first car was a K reg mk1 Escort 2 door with a 711m 1600 Xflow. I paid my mate £200 for it which included having his brother plate the front turrets.

Had a years fun with it before selling on to another mate for £200. Amazing that if it was still around now it would be worth more than my current 4 year old modern

Dont know whether anyone else didn't like how he kept calling it a 3 door and the incorrect identification of the seats, or the state of the tca bushes when he put the capri front legs on, and why did he put an lsd in and not update the rear suspension.

oh, and that range rover was a pup. I suspect the trader who owned it paid for the work, then got it back

I watched the Rangie episode last night and found it 'helpful'.

I've been offered a 4.6 HSE silly cheap. It belongs to one of our fitters at work, and guess what, the air suspension has sunk on one front corner. Hmmm.

Sorry for the thread hijack.

.

The suspension is full of bits of rubber.

Rubber wears out over time.

Replace rubber, reset computer and drive off into the sunset.

Down at one corner means either an air spring or that corner's valve in the valve block.

Air springs are about £60 each (but you will need to do all four) and a valve block rebuild kit is £50 or so.

You can get some free software to reset the computer or buy a wee gadget.

Simples.

Mockney Mike wanted tt keep the colour. It was Edd who chose the colour. Well, that's how they played it out.

Made a nice job of the car but I think the original colour was better...these browns, golds etc seem to be popular again

I have never seen Wheeler Dealers (don't have any paid for channels) but I have noticed that alot of the car forums I post on are talking about it in a positive way. From what I can gather its the new Top Gear for the 2010's. I don't watch Top Gear (ive seen a few episodes to give it a chance thought it was awful) i've read some reviews on it and from what I can gather they are still doing the same old scripted shit, interviewing celebrities and then getting them to pull a funny face while driving a hatchback round a track etc and JC, JM & RH are still speaking in that strange sarcastic voice tone that they put on. The whole show is so dated no wonder the ratings are dropping.

TG may have it's faults but it's a bloody sight better than 98% of any other motoring programme out there. Fifth Gear especially.
