M'coli
Excellent stuff Trigger, I've thoroughly enjoed looking through this thread. Many thanks forthe hard work of putting it together, it must have taken you a good wee while!
Vin
1974 Volvo F88 by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr TOP WORK TRIG This F88 is still around and on the show circuit, I recognise the number plate from 'Classic and Vintage commercials'...I do find it quite interesting to see the first wave of foreign makes like the Volvos and the Daf all decked out in the UK liveries. I agree that the grill on that Jensen (yes they made lorries too... ) is ACE. I reckon the 'BRS TRUCK RENTAL' livery is up there with 'ROADLINE' in the iconic livery stakes... interesting to see it on the VW...now that would be something to recreate instead of the pineapples and rust scab nonsense

Jon
Another thanks from me too, Trigger; these must've taken you hours to sort out. Did BRS trial lorries back in the day? I've never knew V reg Leyland Roadtrains existed and have certainly never seen a W reg Ford Cargo. The odd X reg ones I used to see looked pretty incongruous. It's also interesting to see so many open trailers with tarpaulins and twin-wheeled trailers too, something that must have almost ceased to exist on UK roads now. rml2345
Have to add my thanks as well Trig, those are fantastic!Don't fancy much driving a 40s/50s rigid 8 but they do look bloody handsome... Especially that Seddon DD8.

quicksilver
Awesome stuff Trig, thanks for sharing. They don't make lorries like they used to They're all great but the Scammell Crusader's got to be my favourite.
Justin Case
Superb set of photos Trigger, thanks for putting them up and brightening up the start of the week for all of us I like the way that the Jensen pantechnicon (I've been waiting for ages to use that word has just had BRS symbols stuck on the cab doors; it must have been photographed very soon after nationalisation! Have you got any of the BTC films made in the 50s? They are superb period stuff and you can get them on video now. Anyway, here are a fine pair of Bristols for your delight (no thread hijack intended though): 1961 and 1957 Bristol BRS Articulated lorries by geoffp5, on Flickr

STUNO
I don't have any interest in trucks, but thoroughly enjoyed a look through these. Thanks trigger !Did anyone notice the Vauxhall Viscount on dealer plates behind one of the trucks? and the Hillman Husky van just might be a Minx van. Mash
Excellent Trig, I'm pinching the one of the Triumph 1300s on the transporter! I was also just about to say I have NEVER seen a W-reg Cargo either.

Tetleysmooth
I must be getting bloody ancient.I've driven a good few of these lorries, not for BRS, but for other companies.Pass the zimmer frame, chaps.Nice pics Trig.

406V6
Did anyone notice the Vauxhall Viscount on dealer plates behind one of the trucks?Yes, great spot - must have been brand new at the time. But it's a Cresta Deluxe. The Viscount had a grille formed of checked material with a black surround. I was a determined Vauxhall spotter in the days when I wore short trousers and appreciated the subtle differences between quite similar models like the Cresta, Cresta Deluxe and Viscount. Thanks Trigger for the excellent pics.
boobydoo
Great pics! My uncle worked for BRS in the 60s and 70s and he always used to give me BRS logo-ed keyrings and coasters and the like. He got a new company car every couple of years, although it seems that the company hadn't an allegiance to a particular marque. I used to love riding in the back of them, thinking how posh they were. Austin A60s, a Cortina Mk II, Hunters, a Cortina Mk III, Maxi, Princess etc . All lorries look the same to me now, so nice to see a few I recognise from childhood. I was a determined Vauxhall spotter in the days when I wore short trousers and appreciated the subtle differences between quite similar models like the Cresta, Cresta Deluxe and Viscount.Cresta to Viscount is easy, but Cresta to DeLuxe? Would that be two headlights not four? I hardly ever recall seeing the single headlight ones, though.
Andrew353w
Many thanks for the post, Trig! Way back in the early 1980s I worked for BRS Truck Rental in Potters Bar! Your pictures brought back many memories!
ifc63
and the Hillman Husky van just might be a Minx van. Looks very much like the 1955 Commer EDV (Express Delivery Van) I saw at Llandudno Transport Extravaganza a couple of years ago.I don't know if they did a Hillman-badged version of the same but I remember the owner saying his Commer shared the same grille as the Minx saloon of the period. solid61
Also out of interest for any anorak vauxhall spotters like me, the photo with the cresta in was taken in kimpton road luton, right in the heart of vauxhalls massive factory,Just a shame theres a couple of fords sneaking in the corner of the photo.
