Mr_Bo11ox
The daily battle bus (99 Cordoba Vario Tdi) needs new booties. Best balance between price and performance for some winter grip? I usually get part-worns from excellent bloke at local scrappy but thought I would treat the old girl.

Micrashed
I have Maxxsport M & S tyres on the Micra and run them all year rround. They are OK but a bit interesting in rain where the grip could be likened to that of an excited Labrador on laminate flooring. In snow they are good. They now have 4mm of grip which is less than perfect for snow, but I'll chance it this year. They were £35/each from MyTyres.com
Cavcraft
Reg... Allow you to tell you what happened. You called my mobby earlier in the week and I attempted to call you back and left a message on your voice mail. As you can see all the postings I put on this Site as 'Space Cadet' have been removed in a 'spam' cleaning exercise. When we arranged to advise about winter wheels I contacted you and other people through several messages as Space Cadet and didn't have another way of posting even more of the same as my PMT went as well I asked the internet to redirect the thread to workplace as I hadn't appreciated that the delivery was a to my home e-mail address only and I wasn't there. I was told I couldn't re- arrange delivery and had it had to be done by you by which time I'm afraid my profile on here had been deleted and I had no other way to contstantly mither. I'm sorry for cock up but really is my fault. Still would like wheel and winter here (with tyre) ready to swap with you. Please PM me as I will make sure you are not in pocket. Cheers

Split_Pin
What dimensions are you after? I have 2 195 65 15s on Vectra steels going spare? Only about 2k on them. They are budget brands but pukka winter jobbies with a knobbly tread. They work GR8 in the sno chaos too .

Pillock
Is it me, or does this thread contain text from other threads being reposted under random names? loserone
Well crafted indeed. Thought this was interesting; page 44 of: http://issuu.com/lotuscars/docs/proacti ... utumn_2012 As LP pointed out, M&S means nothing, but there's a "snowflake on a mountain" symbol which should identify cold weather tyres

Guest
Dunno if anyone's interested? No. Ok. Anyway I have for sale a pair of very very good Colway mud and snows with retracting studs. They're 175 something x 13 Mk2 Escort steels at the mo.I spent £40+ last year on new tubes and fitting. These are epic. With them on the front of my diesel Escort van I was passing X5s and that old rubbish easy. They are what made me buy winters for my Merc as the difference they make is incredible. Something like this with studs that retract http://www.minimania.com/part/TIRE07/15 ... nter-Tread £80?

Albert Ross
I run 7.50s yes, but alas I cannot recut them, as that is for 16" wheels or above (as I have), fitted to vehicles 3500kg or over. Mine is listed on the V5 as 3499kg. Grr.
Cavcraft
Yeah yeah, but that's just legal shit. We used to recut them for farmers and told them if they got pulled for it that we'd told them it was for offroad use only. In fact we had a nice little side line selling recut part worn Landrover tyres to dumper truck owners.

Unfortunately, my line of work sort of involves "the legal shit" on cars, so it wouldn't be the done thing to actually break the law you see...... And seeing as tyres are THE most important component of any road vehicle, I take no risks.
Cavcraft
I know chief, I'm just a mingebag. It certainly would pose a few risks running on them as you'd be perilously close to the 'canvas'. Anyhow it seems some people on here still use remoulds so they're obviously not all bad tyres.
Morgan84
I think the cheapo crap tyres which are imported were so cheap, that they undercut remoulds, and thats why we see less remoulds on offer

Cavcraft
I think the cheapo crap tyres which are imported were so cheap, that they undercut remoulds, and thats why we see less remoulds on offer That's exactly it and then these cheap tyres have to be shredded because they're no good for remoulding. I still maintain if you could find a new, 'green' way of dealing with shredded tyres you'd be very rich at some point. They'd tried using old tyres for all kinds of things apparently, including sort of sea defences but iirc the carbon eventually sort of leaked out and polluted the water. M'coli
Even with the Maragonis fitted to the Cavalier, they probably made little difference to this morning's drive - wheelspin in 4th at 40mph on the A1M at a quarter past six, without giving it a bootful of throttle, just tickling it - was utterly, utterly scary.
