Oh shazbot.

In a moment of alcohol-influenced madness last night (the annual office visit to the Norwich Beer Festival, if you must know) I made an offer on this:

I offered substantially less than the Buy It Now price, and was expecting my offer to be rejected, but it's just been accepted and I've won the car. Problem is that once I've paid for the Subaru, the Shogun and the Bedford I'm not going to have a lot of money left to pay for this. Which is a pain, as I think it's deeply cool and I want to get my grubby paws on it as soon as possible. I'm hoping I can put the Commer off until next payday (a couple of weeks or so) on the grounds that it's bloody miles away and is going to need a huge trailer (although I might still go up there with the relevant bits and a mate who knows Rootes engines and fix it up enough to drive it home) but that's still going to leave me pretty darn tight. I've put the DS back on eBay (doesn't fit in the space my mate and I had earmarked for it, with the result that it's now sat on his front lawn and very much in the way) so I'm going to have to keep my fingers crossed that somebody is going to bid a lot of money on that. Cos other than that, apart from the Escort which will hopefully be going within the next week, I'm running out of stuff that I don't mind flogging. I might end up having to out the V90 and the outboard motor on the grounds that neither of them is likely to see much action for the next five months or so, or even, Heaven forbid, weigh the 245 in to be recycled into cheap Chinese scooters. :( I think I need help. Of the psychiatric variety. :?

I'm so sorry I can offer no assistance from where I am, but I hope you can find a way to sort this out. You know whatever sacrifice you have to make will be more than made up for, once you are trundling around in this superb piece of shite. By far the coolest acquisition in this weeks haul. 8)

Yup - Pug and Scooby have jumped to the top of the list. The Colt Shogun (yup - it really is that old...) is only really going to be needed to tow the Commer home, so I won't need to pick that up until I'm ready for the Commer. The Bedford I'm not sure about as the seller hasn't responded to my emails. But yes, the Pug is deeply, deeply cool. And yes, it's T&T'd - taxed till end of November and tested till December, which means I can bosh another six months' tax on it before the MoT runs out and still potter around semi-legally until I get round to doing the MoT work (Renner Nine is first in the queue for that at the moment, assuming the Alfa and Carlton don't need anything for their tests). The current state of the Wuvvum fleet is as follows, in order of age:2000 Alfa 166 2.0 Twinspark1996 Ford Escort 1.8 LX1996 Ford Mondeo 2.5 Ghia X estate1994 Saab 9000 CSE Turbo1991 Mazda 121 Auto1990 Mazda 1211986 Renault 9 Turbo1983 Honda Spacy 1251981 Vauxhall Carlton 2.0 GL estate1978 Saab 900 Turbo1977 Yamaha V901975 Volvo 245 DL1974 Mobylette1972 Volvo 1641970 Citroen DS 21 Safari1966 Vauxhall Viva HA DeluxeOut of those, the Escort and the DS are currently for sale. The Carlton may be up for sale at some point but I've got to stick an MoT on it first. The 245 isn't really saleable as due to the condition it's in I'd never get back what it owes me, and anyway I quite like having a car that scares white van drivers into submission. The Saab 9000 will eventually be sold but I've got to sort the brakes out and MoT it first. The 164 and the Viva are definitely not going to be sold, and nor, for the moment, are the R9, the 900 Turbo or the Alfa. One of the Mazdas (the Noddy car shape one) is more or less sold, but the money from that is already long gone; the other one I'm keeping as it's a reliable runabout and it's not really worth anything anyway. So as to cars that can be sold with immediate effect, I'm left with the Escort, the DS and the Mondeo, plus possibly one of the mopeds. Problem is that it's getting to the time of year where everyone's saving for Christmas and nobody wants to buy anything. Oh well, I'll work something out - having slept on it I really do want that Peugeot badly... At least all this hassle keeps my life interesting. :?

Hmm, yes. Too many 'distractions' there I think.Saab & Mongdeo seems surperflous if you have this Alfa for long-distance munching...Escort... well just get shot pronto!Mazda's? Pap - I don't understand!Carlton & Volvo seem to do the same "job".... but then so could the new Pug and the Alfa (i.e. tip runs & towing!)Renner 9? Hmm, maybe but I feel that would need 'dedication' to keep on song.As for those 'keepers', well interesting selection at least!I'll give you a quid for that Volvo wagon though!

Whats this "mazdas-pap" nonsense? I think you and I oughta have a quiet word - outside  Mazdas are what its all about.

FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!Well, tbh, I just don't have much love for those 121's. They are invariably driven by grannies and MONGS.Bigger mazdas by all means, but 'cutesy' bubble jobs - Meh.

So which one am I?Actually I wasn't all that impressed with the waythe bubble shape 121 drove. It was slower and handled less well than the Kia shape. The thing that appealed to me with that car was that the design - both exterior and interior - was so far ahead of its time. It was an H reg car that made an M reg Micra look old fashioned (and I'm not even going to mention an M reg Fiesta or Rover Metro...). It had a fuel-injected 16-valve engine, an electronically-controlled 4-speed autobox, electric windows, central locking and a catalytic converter - and this was before the Clio or 106 even appeared on the scene. But it wasn't all that special to drive. Not unpleasant, but a bit dull. The Kia shape, on the other hand, is brilliant. 60 in 10.8 seconds, sits at the ton quite happily, 45mpg average and the handling's great fun. Plus it's such a scruffy and unassuming little thing, especially with its 12" wheels, that it adds quite a lot to the amusement of watching the look on the face of Barry Chav in his Saxo VTR as I leave him behind away from the lights. They're brilliant cars, and when mine eventually dies I'll probably be replacing it with a Kia Pride - one with whitewalls if I can find one. 8)

Got both a mazda and a Kia I'm afraid -and endorse everything Wuvvie stated. Bought them as kids car (learn to drive, take test then 'free gift' with a years tax, test, ins) -and found they are a right laugh to drive.Mrs often uses the Kia for commuting (admit to fitting 12inch alloys to replace the skinnies when I shredded the tyres, and I've a spare suntop 121 (full length elec canvas s/roof) for when the kids break theirs -which hasnt happened!)Not worth a bean but pennies to run, reliable and fun!Which is more than can be said for a lot of my old tat!

If I'd known you wanted one of these (which is very cool) I'm surprised you didn't go for this one which was on a couple of months back....

I can't believe how new they are! Both are newer than my R14, your grey one above is the same age as my Ritmo yet the design of that pug looks yonks older. The design basically harks back to the 204 break which had been around since the late 60s.

We're on! Just been on the phone to the owner's husband/partner and arranged to pick it up next Saturday. Escort went this afternoon (for triple what I paid for it - now if only I could do that with every car I buy...) so that's the money bit sorted. I can't wait!

Give us a shout if you want moral support/tea...

I did see that one, but I didn't go for it due to the fact that it wasn't T&T'd and it's about a bazillion miles away and needed trailering - it'd cost me about £120 to go and get it with the Carlton as it's not exactly economical when towing. Plus that one had an annoying little kid standing in front of ir in the photos. I did like the orange cloth interior though. 8)

A V reg 304 would have been the very last of the line of a car that was produced well past its sell-by date. Bit like a T-reg Hillman (Chrysler) Hunter or (Talbot) Avenger. Or a Y-reg HA van. It would have looked antiquated in the showroom alongside the 305, and even more so compared to the Astra and Mk3 Escort, which both came out around that time. I kinda like that though - the fact that in 1980 someone went out and decided to buy a brand new 304 instead of all the more modern alternatives out there.

Are you gonna want those Renner 5 rims for your 9 Wuvvum?Luzz 'em in the Pug on your way home!Is there a "look" for driving a dilapidated Peugeot 304? I cn imagine it would encompass scruffyness, unwashed hair, roll-ups and a dog on a piece of string. It's a good look.

No worries. Could probably pick you up from the station and drop you to the seller if required. Might make a nice break from trying to fix my 405's starting problem... Oddly, this is not the only 304 wagon I have seen in the environs of Reading in recent years, there was a semi-decent T-reg in beige/gold a couple of years back round Aldermaston way.I reckon the '304 look' would involve a beret and some kind of rain mac. Gitanes action very much optional if fuel leaks from the carb are prevalent...

Having lived in france, i'd say The Gitanes action is compulsory if you have a fuel leak, my local garage owner was always chuffing on one as he used to fill my van up...... :D:shock:

Also like an R16 / R12 on a T plate (did R12 make it to V?)
